Ah my local convenience store…read more... It really IS convenient when I hardly want to get out of my pajamas, let alone have a shower, but would die for a package of M&Ms. I stumble out of my building in my flipflops, and my pajamas if they are more scrub clothing than clearly pajamas, and right next to my building is Abby's. The couple who owns and runs this place are lovely; they always know what I'm looking for. And I one time won $10 from a scratch ticket I bought there. Score! Like all corner shoppes though, you pay for the convenience. But hey, it's right there and they don't judge me in the moments of my most appalling appearance.

I feel bad about the person who thinks there is nothing badly wrong with this store. These people…read moreare corrupt business owners. They actually take some of the product out of packaging where they can and put it back on the shelf. Example - the level of their dish detergents are all noticeably low. I assume they are taking it for their personal use. They also just love taking products like 5 cent candies and twizzlers and bundling them in baggies that they prepare themselves so they can short change the customers. Not only that, but they fill these baggies with their bare hands all over the candy. If you come in the store while they are busy doing this out in the open behind the counter in an unhygienic manner, she will grab the little white plastic tongs and pretend she's using them, but it's more than obvious that she's never even used the things, much less filled thousands of baggies of candy with them. I even once saw her drop some candy while putting on this little show, and she just set it close to the side... I would put money on it that she put that floor-candy in her rip-off candy bag. Finally, they have TONS of expired product in their store. NEVER EVER buy anything without checking the date, and that includes pop and candy bars and canned and jarred goods and even frozen items. I've found all of those products expired there more than once, usually by several months, not just days!!! And I always let them know (in a respectful way), and all they do is act annoyed, and I've returned and found the same expired products on the shelves later. They are gross crooks, long story short. Okay if you need an emergency liter of milk or smokes or a lottery ticket - it is great to have a place so close to all those apartment buildings in a residential neighborhood, but really I think these people should be investigated. And I've lived next door for 10 years so definitely know what I'm talking about with this place and its owners (who are the store's ONLY staff - they are an older Korean couple and employ no one, and so feel no need to feel accountable. The other reviewer says they're "lovely"... yes, I think they have a lot of people who haven't been around as long and aren't paying much attention fooled with their basically normal social skills! And no credit cards accepted and a shady looking debit terminal wrapped in cellophane to boot, and so hot in the summer that all their chocolate products totally melt and the store is almost unbearable to be in... and of course insane prices like most little convenience stores, but even worse, especially given the sub-par state of the merchandise.
