    Salted caramel ice cream
    Evan K.

Incredible ice cream. After a long bike ride all the way from Broadway and Main, we came here specially for their ice cream. In a few words, it was wowMazing! Perfect texture, plenty sweet and with decadent pieces of chocolate, my salted caramel was worth every single pedal of the journey there. The Covid pandemic has altered their business operations as you might expect. The lineup for the order window was only a half dozen people, and our order of a couple ice creams was ready for pickup at another window a few minutes later. Similar to Honey's donuts, or so I'm told, Tre Galli Gelato is the bees knees when it comes to their desserts. Better than Earnest or Rain or Shine! It might be out of the way, but you better believe it's worth it!

A year and a half ago, I bought 5 coupons at the River Market to use at the restaurants and food stands at River Market. I never got around to using the last two coupons on hand with all the travelling for work. I finally made the chance to come with B to try the ice cream at Tre Galli Gelato. Each coupon came with 2 scoops ice cream either in a cup or a waffle cone. I got the hazelnut and tiramisu flavor in a waffle cone. The waffle cone was nice and crunchy. I am sure they made it on the day. It was somewhat easy to break and yes it was super soft with a nice crisp to it. I loved their ice cream, it was super delicious and flavorful. It would be a great treat especially on a hot day. without the coupon it would have costed $7 something each (I bought the coupon for $4 each so it was some savings). I highly recommend trying their ice cream.

We came to the food fair at the New Westminster Key because we wanted to get a few things to share from the different food vendors. We got the Margherita Pizza. It had good flavour and a pretty good thin crust. The gelato wasn't quite as good. At first glance you could tell that they used food colouring and artificial flavourings instead of natural ingredients. The first sample we tried had a lack of flavour and was a freezer burnt. The passion fruit flavour was tasty but I just prefer natural flavours and ingredients. It also had some large chucks of ice. We liked their location right by the water and we enjoyed our views but the food was just so so for us!

I scoop cone with 2 flavors - hazelnut chocolate and black sesame

I come here for ice cream, not because it is really that delicious but because it is the only gelato shop in the Quay area. There are many different flavors and they do rotate them. The prices have gone up and somehow I do not think it is that great a deal anymore. I much prefer Bella or Earnest in comparison as the taste is richer/stronger there. The nice thing is you can do a two flavors in a single scoop order so it is great for those who like variety but do not want a two scoops cup/cone. There is also a price difference in cone and cup - I never get that logic. Of the flavors I tried so far, I do like black sesame and matcha. The chocolate is not bad too. The system is confusing. During busy periods, you do have to pay first before getting your ice cream. But when it is slow, they will allow you to try the different flavors, get your ice cream before paying for it. The servers are also inconsistent in the size of the scoop, it really depends on who you get to scoop it for you.

Tried 2 scoops of their espresso ice cream at around 6pm and gave me a hard time sleeping. LOL. But the ice cream was creamy and good. Looking forward to try other flavors in my next visit.

Vegetarian panini (with basil instead of cheese)

I've had two things from this cafe - a panini and a gelato. This place is great that they spilt up the gelato into two different cabinets - with dairy and without / non dairy, which is fantastic! I got the vegan lemon matcha tea flavour, which I have never had before and it was fantastic! Very interesting. With the panini I ordered the vegetarian one which I couldn't unfortunately make 100% vegan (as they had mayonnaise in the olive sauce and they had no hummus) as without the sauce it would of been really dry. They did accommodate me as much as they could by substituting the cheese with basil which gave it great flavour. However the other ingredients on the sandwich - roasted red pepper and artichokes all had that jar vinegary taste. So overall an average sandwich but I do appreciate them even having a vegetarian option as there are not many options at the quay. Also to note the customer service was really nice and friendly. I will def be back for the gelato and I hope to see an improvement to the sandwich.

salted caramel with choco chunks and strawberry

as far as gelatos go, this place has got to be one of the best in vancouver. granted they dont have as much flavours as the 200 flavour one in venables, the quality of their ice cream is absolutely amazing. we ordered the strawberry and salted caramel with choco chunks flavours and i was completely blown away. my son who is 10 even said that the strawberry one tasted like real strawberries and that he loved it. long story short, 5 stars for sure for taste and value. service was quick but the taste test portion was cut short coz of the line up... funny as they are located inside an artisan food court by the quay in new west. they can easily give any gelato place in vancouver a run for their money. happy eating!

    Banana chocolate chip gelato

This place gets super busy as it's right by the water, and who doesn't like gelato during the summer? They have a very quick and systematic way to move their queue-- you pay for the gelato first, then they give you a laminated handout that shows what you paid for (e.g., one scoop cone). You can try samples of their delicious stuff, then voila! They have seasonal flavors that rotate, and so I don't remember what flavor I got; I just remember it was super delicious! The only thing that's keeping this place from receiving a full five stars is that the employees weren't particularly friendly. Okay service, just not stellar.

Kid scoop of salted caramel and chocolate - $4.30 each
    Ally S.

Pretty good gelato. Got the kids scoop in a cup for $4.40 of the salted caramel. It's a good portion size for me. I liked how it didn't leave a filmlyness(?) on my tongue after that needed to be washed out with something. I would get gelato from here again.

This place is located conveniently just next to a hotel and of course, riverside. If you're able to get a seat outside you'll enjoy the view (they have nice flowers on the patio). Inside seating is nothing special, it can get pretty hot, because of all the glass above your head. We came here twice. Once in the evening and the second time in the morning, just after opening. The evening brought us gellato that we were craving before bedtime. Sadly, I was a bit disappointed (maybe my expectations were too high, or it was just bad luck). As promising as it looked, and the assortment of tastes they had... in the end, all three flavours that I've tried felt like one. I couldn't tell them apart. For trying a good gellato (but of course more expensive one), rather try Bella Gelateria in Downtown. This one is not worth the price in my opinion. The morning was more promising. The outside seating gets full fast (especially those with umbrellas), so send someone in for your order or you go in and somebody else holds down the fort (there's no waiter service, or at least there wasn't any at 9am). We ordered some paninis for breakfast and coffee. The line started to build up pretty fast, but the wait was not that bad. Paninis were good, had proper, tasty (not sweet!!) bread and enough toppings. They were warmed up, so it was a great bite to start the morning with. We tried Canuck and Salvatore Panini. Both were delicious! I would come back for them again. People seem to come over here for pizza too, but we only had two days, so there wasn't a chance to try it out. Maybe next time. The staff is a bit slow and can seem unfriendly, but I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt, cause it was "early" Saturday morning (9am). So, the final verdict: if you're hungry, definitely come in for a bite, and grab some paninis (or try a pizza). If you're up for an ice cream, take a pass.

I would consider this more ice cream like than gelato (Italian ice cream) by the texture. However, the ice cream was creamy and packed with mango peach flavour. For ice cream standards, it was pretty good. The waffle cone made well. It was a bit pricey for a scoop as there is no competition nearby.

Single lonely cup of ice cream
    Clara H.

Yummy! I love ice cream! I tried a few flavours and they were all so good but I especially liked the roasted almond, blueberry cheesecake, and Alpen caramel (I think that was what it's called). I eventually ended up getting just two scoops but so I settled for the almond and blueberry cheesecake. This is one the better gelato cafes around although they are quite limited in flavours. However the taste and texture of the gelato easily makes up for that!

There's a classic milk soft serve and another flavor which they can twist together with the classic milk. They seem to feature new flavors every month or so. I think I had seen from their Instagram page that they had an Ube soft serve back in April. Right now we're in early June and the flavor that we got for our twist was a cookie butter soft serve. Not sure how much longer they will have the cookie butter flavor as I had thought that it was supposed to be just for the month of May. So...I guess they don't always change the flavor right at the beginning of each month. They do change the flavors every so often though. I ordered the Green Forest which is supposed to have matcha powder, sweet red beans and condensed milk. They had run out of red beans when I went so they let met choose a different topping to replace the red beans. That actually suited me better anyways as I'm not a big fan of red beans. I chose the Green Forest for the matcha flavor in it, not the red bean! I ended up choose toasted coconut as a replacemenet for the red beans. Yum yum yum! My daughter chose the Brown Sugar Pearls option which came with brown sugar drizzle, and soft, chewy tapioca pearls. Hubby opted for the Mudslide which came with Tim Tam crumbs and chocolate syrup. I think the one thing I'd like to see at this place would be more flavors of soft serve to choose from. Having only two flavors makes things simpler for them I suppose. Happy enough with what they offer since they do have lots of interesting toppings to choose from, but...more flavors of soft serve would be cool to see. Parking: Pay parking on the street but the meter is free from 8pm. Service: Fair

It is also a fantastic spot to work if you wanna have a café setting because their pastries and bake goods are absolutely fantastic. In fact last year for Christmas, we bought one of their Christmas cake options which proved to be super popular with the family. What I love about this location is the decor. On one side it is a simple industrial warehouse. But it has that post modern feel with all of the live plants. The live plants is what I love and the tall ceiling for the plants to fully grow. Though if they are looking for something else, which could really bring this to the top, it would be to have a fish tank. A fish and or water feature around the massive plant island in the middle of the dinning area would be chefs kiss. Of course, what about the food? From here, I find the food here is excellent. Sometimes the flavour combinations are a little weird. But that's typical for the Vancouver foodie scene. Vancouver food scene is a fusion hybrid of local ingredients mixed with traditions from cultures from other places around the world. But the bottom line is the portions are a good size. The platters in particular are large and would feed a very hungry person. You definitely get your moneys worth. You don't get much table service once you are done with your order. But that is all right because of it size and volume for the amount of people who come through.
