Easy snacks, comfort grabs, stocked cold boxes and causal service. Absolutely stopped in here way to many times years ago as a SD regular, and while much hasn't change, much has slightly improved. Feels like a place where you're remembered as well as valued. Access off the corner of University Avenue and Normal Street with very wide space for both the gas area and the convenience store itself. Solid deals on adult beverages, beer and wine, as well as soda. If local or on foot it's a very easy in and out, even more so with your own bags. read more

If I'm not going to 7-11 down the street I'm coming to this one. The inside of the store is always clean but cramped. For some reason, I must go at the same time of the day because I encounter the same cashier almost every time. He's always pleasant and works efficiently. My only.qualm is the outside has strong odors. I know that can't be helped sometimes r/t the indigenous population. There's only so much you can control outside of your establishment. read more

Sometimes I crave a 711 coffee! IYKYK Yes, they are surprisingly good! Today was one of those days! The cinnamon coffee hit the spot. Yum!

I gotta say this has ended up being my go to gas station because of proximity but it is poorly set up. There are only 4 pumps which is fine but trying to get in and out of that space is always difficult even for myself who has a small car. It seems to be a busy gas station and 711 in general but I just wish it wasn't so hard to move around or get into a gas pump because of how close the parking spots are to the gas pump. read more

Another 7-Eleven. Another one-star review. Look, this one earns it. About the only thing going for it is it's one of the 7-Elevens with a gas pump if you need a fill-up. Other than that, there's a lot of bad. Despite undergoing a redesign at some point, it's still not very inviting. Part of it is the layout combined with the "security" measures, but another part of it is the way it's situated. Nothing appears to be where'd you'd expect it, so god help you if you need to stop in for something quickly. And maybe it's the franchisee's choice or whatever, but I've definitely noticed that this location doesn't do any deals at all. Everything is full price, and probably more expensive than others in the area. Not even the 7-Eleven house brand items see 2-fors here. The final straw for me, and one that will make me avoid this 7-Eleven as much as I can, is the fact they put up a sign outside that specifically asks people not to give money to "panhandlers". The sign actually thanks you for "keeping your local 7-Eleven and its community safe and clean", and man you don't need to go very far to really dig into the subtext of that. Look, homeless people exist, and they are going to exist whether or not you give them a dollar outside a convenience store. It's not like giving one person without shelter the change in your pocket means they're all going to congregate in your parking lot looking for treasure. It's asinine, and the sign itself is insulting in its inhumanity. If you remove the sign, I'll consider updating my review. read more

As I was pulling in on April 29, I saw a 7-Eleven employee mercilessly punching a homeless man who is laying down in the head over and over and over and over and over again. The man was trying to shield his head and saying "why are you doing this", as the employee continue to punch him in the head. The man was laying down in a corner outside the 7-Eleven, and was being pummeled. Apparently he had come into the store without a shirt on and knocked something over. What can you base your review on at 711? This is your basic joe convenience store. There's only about 3 parking spots here, and a gas station for alternative parking. Great deal of homeless here, but the staff seems to be equipped on how to handle out of the box situations and the homeless. The staff is suuuuupppppeer nice. Once I had a staff member ask me why I was buying rubbing alcohol, I guess a homeless man used it to substitute for alcohol! Kinda laughed about it, but wondered if the homeless man actually drank the rubbing alcohol.. There's a atm at the back by the way, I think it's 2.50 they charge to use it. Snacks on snacks here. Surely most people think that all 711's are created equal, those people probably don't frequent 711's very often...but living in the heart of San Diego, and ending up in many 711's through out my lifetime, I have to say that this one is better than most. The staff is friendlier than most of those working at 711, and I'd venture to say it's because most of the people working here have been working here for as long as I can remember. Great inventory of your typical convenience store items, and typical 711 prices. Also one of the cheapest places to get gas in Hillcrest, if not the cheapest. Also a great ATM that's in the majority of credit union networks, so I love that I can use it without getting charged. Overall, sure you may think it's just another 711, but it's MY local 711 and it's probably better than yours, so there's always that! read more

I would like to give a little shout-out to this 7-Eleven, and the employees that suffer through the dreaded late night shift on the weekends. I ended up randomly at the same 7-Eleven two nights in the same weekend, drunk and super-talkative, after dancing at two different bars nowhere near this glowing beacon in the night, accompanied by two different males of similarly questionable motives. On the second night, we'd been stranded by our companions at that other glowing beacon in the night, Brians', in the winter chill, so we ducked into 7-Eleven to fight the cold. Of course, the cashiers remembered me from the night before, and cheerfully helped us out, without judgment, calling me a taxi to take us to my car, and assisting my drunken companion to operate the ATM. The cab arrived quickly, and soon I was safely on my way. Now I know where to go if I need a safe haven in the middle of the night, no matter if I need an extra large bottle of water, a taxi ride, or a friendly chat with nice cashiers. read more

They must put up with some of the worst drunks in the city (and I include myself in that demographic), yet they always have a smile and an endless supply of patience. Anything open 24 hours usually gets my vote for awesome. The people who work here are always interesting too. The gas isn't my favorite price but at least they have it. I do get sad though because the coke flavored icee (the only one I drink) is never fluffy. The only other place I know to get one is the movies and Burger King pretends to have it but the freaking machine is always broken so that's a lie too. Also a plus is it is well lit! I walked one night, by myself, and wound up having a half hour conversation with the cashier (the super skinny gay guy with short hair) about Tab soda.
