Pros: -The BWB team executes with exquisite quality and their subs were excellent too. -Team is very honest and pretty easy to work with -These guys really know how to work with original architectural features and are very passionate and knowledgeable about how to maintain/reuse original materials or make new materials match to the original/existing materials -Good value for the money. They were clear up front that the work would be within +/- 20% of their estimate and with our work they landed at just about 20% over. I suggest you ask questions up front around what would cause the price to end up over the estimate - I learned that it's things like change requests. :) Cons: -The framers didn't seem to be working to the drawings and we had to have them rework two spots. They did so and since it was their error, they absorbed the cost. -I think the framers were smoking in our house b/c I found a cigarette butt on the dining room floor (why would you smoke inside a house when you're in the building business??). My husband thinks it might have stuck to someone's shoe and come in that way. Regardless, Malcolm talked to them and we didn't see any further evidence of the issue. -We also expected to live in the house during most of the remodel and set that expectation. We were surprised that the water, heat and electricity was off for a while, making that plan challenging. We had also allocated "safe" rooms, where we didn't pack everything up. People undergoing remodel should be aware that these rooms may become contaminated with lead paint dust as well if someone falls thru a ceiling or the plastic lining between rooms gets torn. Pack all of your stuff up in boxes and tape it and number the boxes to tie back to your inventory list in case you need to find something during the remodel - you'll know exactly where it is :)

Despite my initial enthusiasm for the service, I encountered several issues that diminished my…read moresatisfaction. Like many other Handy-person companies have begun doing in the last five years or so, they impose a minimum time limit to ensure a minimum service fee. I required several basic repairs around my residence, which necessitated the use of a ladder, screws, and a screw anchor. One repair was time-sensitive, and the company initially offered immediate repairs but suggested returning a few weeks later due to them being booked up. This approach was reasonable and appreciated. However, after further communication with the company, I discovered for the time sensitive repair, they required a $250 deposit prior to any work starting, and would charge their minimum two-hour fee of $300. The job involved simply reattaching one side of an outdoor sun shade, resulting in an estimated total of $820.85 for all of the repairs. As a homeowner I've had several estimates and repairs completed by Handy-person services over the last few decades, but this one has to be the most unreasonable. In contrast, I contacted another Handy-person service company today that arrived at my residence within 30 minutes of my initial contact.They provided an on-site estimate and completed all the necessary repairs in a single hour. The total cost was $110.50, which included tax. This experience met my expectations. The service was reasonably priced, and the handyman was professional and skilled. I now have established a go-to handyman who I can build a lengthy business relationship, year after year. It is unacceptable to ask customers to pay for labor before the work is completed. Materials may be charged, but labor should not be. So glad I found this new Handyman service company. I will definitely be leaving a positive review for them.
