It came as a little nest of kataifi with a braised lamb shank and topped with aioli and pistachios. The sweet and savoury flavours were interesting and made for a good small bite. Happy hour! Came here on a cold day and got seated by the door. Needs better air management because the curtains dont work well. There is a small selection for happy hour, 3 food items and 4 drink choices. Waitresses were attentive and effective! Arabic Fries - Shoestring fries with some tasty seasoning. The fries were very crispy with a little bit of fluff on the inside. Date ketchup was ok. Would get again Falafel Bites - Three pretty good sized falafels. Unfortunately, felt they were too dry. We were seated by the door where the seats were a little wonky, looks like one chair leg was taller than the other. The music is also on the louder side. We came in time for happy hour and the hummus was mediocre. The Kiwi Margarita was good but it was too much on the spicy side. The Reyna salad was good! I've been wanting to try Bar Reyna for a while, the patio looks beautiful so I was super excited. We came in for dinner over the weekend and I don't know how I feel about it. Its smaller than the photos, we were seated inside which had a very bar like feel, probably about 5 tables. The service was friendly, the drinks as they sound on the menu. I think my disappointment came from the food. The hummus was really quite bland, although I appreciated the offer of more veggies- the issue here is the portion of the hummus is not large... so there would not be a need for more pita or veggies. The scallop crudo was probably one scallop at most if not half? The dish was basically all squid ink crackers- and a tiny portion of scallop, the Reyna salad was not what a salad with some many ingredients should taste like- it was also quite bland. We also had lamb and pawns and although the meat options were better they were still quite unforgettable. Would come by for drinks on a sunny day on their patio- but not dinner. read more

I had a great time visiting this spot after dinner nearby. Had the Octopus appetizer and it was really tasty with nice flavour, and was tender with some char. I also got the peaflower lemonade which was nice and sweet and the pineapple mule which was light and refreshing. We arrived around 2:30 in the afternoon, we were greeted immediately by the hostess and we asked for a table for two. The hostess went to her seating chart, poured over it, excused herself and went to the back. She came back a few minutes later, looked at her seating chart again, the proceed to seat us on the back patio. Once seated we ordered the falafel tacos and Spanish fries. The tacos were grilled flat bread with falafel balls, Fresno chilies, picked red onions, a great sauce topped with a crispy element. The falafel balls were really good, nice crunch and great flavor. The fries were super thin crispy strings, topped with chorizo and cheese. Served with chipotle aioli. The fries were seasoned well, had a nice crunch and the sauce added a touch of heat. They were really good. Three o clock rolls around and they pass out a happy hour menu. Always a great night. Servers are lovely and the music is on point! Got two different cocktails. They were beautiful but not really my jam. The fires are always a winner! Mmm these were the Italian ones. The ceviche was nice and I really liked the cauliflower bravas. But hands-down if you go here what you must get is the lamb baklava. It is out of this world! It sounds really strange but the saltiness of the lamb meat with the spices and then the crispy pastry and then the slightly sweet sauce that's on top is unreal. For dessert we tried the ricotta fritters with an orange blossom sauce. They were nice but really sweet so I don't think I'll fantasize about them later. First visit to Bar Reyna back in October 2019 was superb. I've always wanted to revisit and here we are in August 2021 and my second visit wasn't the same. The dishes were underwhelming this time around and didn't really wow us. Grilled prawns were probably the highlight of the night (and I specifically visited for the lamb baklava and Lebanese tacos). 5 stars for the amazing service. 5 stars for the cute ambiance. Came here on Valentine's Day since all of the other restaurants were booked out and was pleasantly surprised to be seated right away. There was a couple of empty tables on the first floor but the host led us to the second floor, which was completely empty! The restaurant has a great, romantic atmosphere with dim lights, candle lights on every table with flowers. Most of the menu is shareable plates and the portions looked small online so we ordered 8 dishes between the two of us (ok - wow, now counting it out that sounds like a lot!). But, that did leave us more full than comfortable so I think 4-5 dishes would be fair for 2. 1. Arabic Fries 4/5 - These came out very quickly and are one of the most unique fries I've ever had! They have this very thin, unique shape that makes the fries both taste light and airy, but still crunchy and very flavorful and well seasoned. I also enjoyed the ketchup that came along with. You get a lot of fries with this order and I kept gravitating towards it and picking away at it throughout the meal so I would recommend this and get it again! 2. Crispy Calamari 2.5/5 - Forgettable calamari, I didn't like the crust compared to a traditional calamari, it wasn't crispy. It felt doughy and honestly a little bit gritty. I did like the sauce that came with but the vessel to enjoy the sauce was def lacking. 3. Lamb Baklava 2/5 - The order is only for one portion, so if you want to get 2 of them - you'd have to order this item twice. This was our least favorite item - the sauce was overpowering, we didn't like the meat inside and the best part was the crust which wasn't coating enough of the large piece of meat inside. Would not get again. 4. Chargrilled Octopus 5/5 - !!! SO GOOODD !!! our favorite part of the meal, the octopus was so tender and cooked to perfection. I really liked the sauce that came with it, the chips, it was delicious!! I wish there was more of it. Would recommend!! 5. New Zealand Lamb Chops 3/5 - Very average lamb chop, not a very juicy piece 6. Lebanese Tacos (Chicken) 3/5 - I thought the flatbreads as a replacement for a taco shell was great, I don't particularly like this as my flavor pallet but it was the most filling taco. There was tons of stuffing and was a huge portion. 7. Manchego & Cauliflower Croquettes 4/5 - So creamy, cheesy! Crispy on the outside, fried to perfection without feeling oily. Would recommend! 8. Scallop & Blood Orange Crudo 3/5 - Normally a huge fan of scallops in all forms, but the cracker they wanted us to put the scallop on was extremely salty. Couldn't really taste the Blood Orange flavoring on the Scallops. There was only 4 small pieces of scallop. It wasn't bad but wouldn't get again. Really like the hidden patio out in the back - it's a really nice feature and I like its intimate and cozy vibes. There are so many lounges that are really hyped up but fall short on their food. However, Bar Reyna's food and drinks are actually pretty good. My favourite by far was the lamb baklava. Very creative, very tasty. Wish the portions were bigger though, especially since it was $10 for two pieces of lamb baklava. We also got the calamari and Lebanese tacos. Both were also really good. Prices were on the higher side unfortunately. For dessert we got kaffir lime and saffron baklava. Very pretty and decadent dessert, although my stomach felt weird after eating it. Bar Reyna is tucked away in Yorkville and has a beautifully decorated patio with lanterns and plants all around, resulting in a warm and cozy environment. A great place for a date! I went here for brunch the other day and shared a couple of dishes - Lamb shank Benny : an interesting twist on a benedict, and honestly not what we were expecting when we ordered it. There is a portion of lamb shank served on a fried chip on a bed of Cauliflower rice. Quite a lovely taste and the lamb didn't taste gamey at all, which was a pleasant surprise. Portion was quite small, however. - Baklava French toast : would highly recommend this dish! Not overly sweet (which is a nice change from 'traditional' brunch dishes). It is served with a lovely orange blossom sauce and vanilla ricotta. Not to be missed! Would also recommend making a reservation as it does get busy during brunch hours on the weekend read more

Walked into Bar Reyna on a Saturday night on a whim. It was moderately busy. They've got some interesting cocktails as well as some signature ones. We tried a mezcal based cocktail that didn't seem balanced; it was heavily smoky and sweet, completely lacked acidity. The other cocktails we ordered were more basic, like a Moscow Mule, but tasty. We also tried their Spanish fries which were actually more like Hickory sticks with a couple sad dried up chorizo crumbles on top. They tasted fine but just didn't live up to how they were advertised on the menu. The inside is decorated with a luxurious feel and the clientele was pretty mixed, some people dressed super casually and some looking like they just exited a club. Washrooms are up a flight of stairs. The service was intermittent and it didn't seem like any one person was assigned to us so we often felt forgotten about. I don't think I'd go back because the experience was decidedly "meh" which didn't match up to the fancy look and pricing of this place. read more

However, I'm only giving it 3 stars because the Mediterranean dishes didn't seem overly authentic and landed on the blander side. Things I'd order again: Lebanese tacos ($20 for 2, we added an additional taco as there were 3 of us). This was light, airy, and well balanced flavour. Lamb baklava ($7 per piece). Fresh Prince cocktail (it's like a pina colada but with pear and kiwi in addition to coconut). Light and refreshing. Things that coasted through the middle: House dip with labneh and caramelized onions. Things I would NOT order again: Halloumi souvlaki - incredibly bland. Tasted like cardboard. Calamari - I love calamari but this too fell short on flavour. The batter was crumbling off and the calamari's texture was so soft it was almost mushy. But my friends thought it was just alright. I've only seen positive reviews and beautiful pictures for Bar Reyna that I ended up being left surprised by how things ended up. We booked a reservation in case there was a line up for Saturday brunch. When we arrived at the restaurant, our host showed us to our table. To our displeasure, we were given the darkest seat in the far corner of the infamous "Instagram worthy" back patio. To add to the situation, my boyfriend had to sit right below the heater, causing him to be, as quoted: "a baked potato". Our servers were quite friendly though. I'll give you that. They also took our orders, which happened to be the Shakshuka and the Short Rib Grilled Cheese. Next came the extended waiting period. We kid you not, the waiting for our food was pure agony. It took about 40 minutes from time of ordering for our plate of food to arrive. They could have at least brought us bread or something. The wait for our meal was not justified by its taste at all. I did not enjoy the Shakshuka. It was very sour and the portion was tiny. The short rib grilled cheese had miniscule amounts of meat in it. It was served with ketchup. I felt as if it was something you could make at home. The dessert definitely saved us. We ordered the apple crumble cheesecake. It was very interesting and had a lot of textures going on. I liked the cream paired with the apple slices. It was a great way to end the meal. Ugh... WILL NOT RETURN. Where do I even begin? We came here on the hunt that there was an awesome happy hour from 4-7pm. CANCELED. It was also Tuesdays Oysters starting at 0.50cents a pop starting at 4pm. We arrived for 5:30pm and they were sold out at 4:30pm the wait staff said. The hostess could have told me at the beginning before getting seated. Then the happy hour wine special, my friend was seated exactly at 6pm, put in her order of the wine glass special for $6 and was told her order was punched in at 6:05pm so the order would no longer apply at the happy hour price and no exceptions would be made with the wait staff fairly adamant about that. The wait staff - revealed that they're lacking in service attentiveness nor patience and understanding. We stayed for the short ribs (unspectacular) for $16 and the calamari, while the chickpea breading was interesting, also not worthy of making up for the negatives and poor introduction to this restaurant. Decided to try out this spot for a date night last week, and my boyfriend and I overall enjoyed our experience! The tapas were yummy and the dining space had a great atmosphere, with super cute decor. We started off with the beet and cashew tzatziki, which was delicious and super flavorful and refreshing! I also really liked the flat bread it was served with. Next came the Lebanese chicken tacos which were topped with a garlic aioli, pickles, and a Turkish salsa. All the flavours worked really well together and I loved the crispy onion topping as well! I also thought the tacos were quite large and a pretty good portion size! We also ordered the Spanish fries which were super crispy, topped with Manchego cheese and chorizo. Super delicious, especially dipped in the chipotle aioli. The whole grilled Mediterranean Sea bass was next, which was quite good as well! It was deboned which was nice and the flavors were good. The last dish that came out was the lamb meatball pot pie. I was a little disappointed because it came out 30 minutes after our previous course. The wait was long, however they did rectify this by not charging us for this dish. I liked the crispy shell of the pot pie, and I thought the tomato filling in the pie was good, however I was not a fan of the actual lamb meatballs. My boyfriend and I both thought they were a little bland, and not very well seasoned. Another issue I had was that the dining space was technically outside with a tent covering. There were heaters on when we first arrived so the temperature was perfect, however about halfway through the meal, they turned off, so I was shivering for about 45 mins. My friend suggested meeting here for dinner on a Wednesday night. In Yorkville, Bar Reyna looks very unassuming from the outside. We walked past it a couple of times before Google Maps helped to orient us. The restaurant is narrow with a large bar at the front. Definitely ask to be seated in the back. It's very cozy and you feel as if you're sitting in someone's backyard. The ambiance was quite nice too. We were able to have a conversation at a normal volume (I can't even remember if there was music in the background). Service was good considering it was only 2 servers helping all the tables. As for the food, that's where Bar Reyna loses stars. The menu is Middle Eastern inspired with hummus, Lebanese chicken, and falafel making their way into the menu. We found the food to be quite salty and many of the items that we ordered seemed to be drenched in sauce (yummy sauce though). We ordered: chorizo, zucchini fritters (very bland), calamari (this was good), tacos (nothing to write home about), and Cornish hen on a skewer (great presentation, but extremely salty).
