I need to re-register my car in CA and the dmv agent I messaged with on Monday said I need a smog check. The last time I got a smog check was in 2020 with my old car at the gas station on wildwood Ave which has since closed. When I asked my mom where to go, she recommended 76 Oakland Smog. I arrived ~11:20 am and there was no wait. The tech who helped me was friendly, efficient, and upfront about the pricing. He honored the $39 promotion online so the promotion, tax, and card fee came out to ~$49. I was told to come back in 10-15 mins and my car was ready when I came back! Easy to kill time at the market, Terrace Cafe, or garden shop. I passed and he gave me a form to take to the DMV, which I plan to do tomorrow. Robert is the best. So kind and knowledgeable. My initial smog test failed because the car computer had to be reset after the battery died. He was helpful in instructing me how to reset the computer. After I followed his advice, my car passed. He remembered me when I returned and he provided me with a good mechanic recommendation should I need someone in the future. read more

I've been coming here for my smog checks every two years for the past 10 years, and I wouldn't go anywhere else. My boyfriend also brings both of his cars here. Even though I drive from Hayward and he drives from Richmond, it's always worth it because the service is so reliable and the staff are always friendly. One funny story: I came in on a Saturday at 7:50 am thinking they opened at 8:00 because I wanted to be first in line and still have the rest of my day. When no one was there by 8:05, I realized I had checked Friday's hours by mistake. I grabbed some coffee and breakfast, came back at 9:00, and told the guy working what happened--he laughed and apologized. I really appreciate how upfront they always are about the price before starting the smog. I still remember the first time I ever got a smog done somewhere else and they charged me nearly $100. Best Smog Experience Ever! We brought in our 2002 Winnebago Rialta because it was the best price we received after contacting several businesses. Robert told us we should plan on s wait of 30 minutes at most and suggested we just come by. His shop is open until 6pm. What happened next was amazing. He ran a quick computer check and discovered our RV would likely fail due to the fact that the "cold start" had not reset after a battery change. By doing this and giving us advice on how to easily correct the problem (by driving 55mph for about 45 minutes) he saved on the cost of a failed test and a retest! Who does that!!! He is not only kind and generous as a businessman, he cares deeply about his community, engaging in activities he hopes will benefit Oakland. 10 STARS He deserves to do well and we very much enjoyed our conversation while he was testing our RV. Fast and easy. Not in a busy part of the town and coffee shop and grocery with parking lot nextdoor. Needed to register an out of state car for DMV and this took all of 15 minutes on a Saturday. They had a printable promo which was great value. Tip, bring cash to pass on $2 credit card fee. My Mustang failed a smog test for the first time in the 10 years I've owned the car. So I decided to park the car until I got around to another smog. Fast forward six months later and I get the urge to try and have it pass smog. My usual smog station wasn't able to help me this last Saturday because their dyno machine was not working . Which I didn't even know was a thing. Apparently older cars use this machine. So I then started the search for a new place. And I found 76 Oakland smog. I was in and out. Passed with flying colors.
