avoid it! I'm not sure if it's incompetence or a scheme. Don will charge you twice to get the same issue fixed and never actually fix a thing. He changed the whole window because it wouldn't go down and a few weeks later it wouldn't work. ( over 500$) I told him about it and when I came back to have him repair it a third time, he wanted to charge me. he charged me to repair my other car as well and a few weeks later the same alert showed up in my dashboard. SO HAPPY I FOUND THIS PLACE. I needed a place open on a Saturday and they were open after finding them on Google. When I called, I told the guy what I needed done to the car only - since I already knew what was wrong with the car. Immediately he said - "you need that because... and he said out loud the problem with my car" I was like YES! He knows! I paid him to do a few extra things he said my car needed because it is a 2001 and I trusted him and paid him what he asked. He fixed it and my car ran better than it had been running in the last few years. He also ordered something and I had to come back the next week to have it installed. Which I did today. I've been coming here for years for all oil changes, maintenances, and repairs. My car has been having weak starts for many years. Don said all he could do was replace the battery and see if that fixes it. I've suspected for a long time that he didn't know how to diagnose root causes. So I've had 2 battery replacements in the last 4 years. I brought my car with a weak start again and he again said he'd just replace the battery for the 3rd time, EVEN THOUGH my battery was only 1 year old. I decided to see a new mechanic. He found that the issue was that a sensor on my engine was completely covered in oil, which was causing the car to not start. But more so, the reason why was because MY AIR INTAKE FILTER WAS COVERED IN DIRT. He said it was clear that it hadn't been cleaned or replaced in YEARS. This is a part that they should check with any routine oil change, or at least with my regular maintenance. I was willing to give Don the benefit of the doubt that maybe he just doesn't have diagnostic experience. But the fact that a basic $10 air filter had not been checked or replaced in many years is actually negligence, or even worse, he knew and didn't tell me so he could keep charging me for more expensive repairs. I learned that their oil changes don't come with an air filter check, but he should have at least checked it whenever I was having engine issues. I honestly feel betrayed. read more

I've been here a bunch of times since my first review, and my positive opinion hasn't changed. This is a no frills, quality auto repair business. The man and the woman I always see here are professional, honest, and do good work. It's connected to a gas station, and the lot seems small, but several cars can park towards the side of the lot, forming a line of side-by-side cars. Only drawback is it seems like a small operation, so they can get a little busy and backed up at times (in part because they do good work). So rude!!! Don't take your car here. They had worked on my car a little over a year ago. 2,000$ later I now have to pay another 2,000$ because of the non attention or just sheer laziness by this shop! I went here a little over a year ago and now my water pump is damaged and thermostat! They didn't tighten the bolt tight enough so now I'm here and they won't do anything about it since I'm over the year that they offer warranty. Highly recommended!! I had an air-fuel ratio problem on a 2016 Ford Fiesta that was quickly diagnosed as a bad oxygen sensor. It turned out that the sensor was seized, which required a bit more labor, including tapping/rethreading the port. They called to let me know and explained everything -- and they showed me the bad sensor with the ruined threads when I picked up the car. I got a flat tire, tried to patch it up myself but struggled and was recommended Don by a friend. Called Don first thing the next morning and he was very open to letting me stop by the same day. The shop is at a gas station so there's a *very small* parking lot and no waiting area except for standing outside the garage or leaving the site. I wasn't given much direction and there was a lot of commotion; Don moved back and forth between my car and at least 4 other cars (also with other mechanics, he's not the only one). I was about ready to just leave the car after 15 minutes to attend to other things but one of his partners told me that Don was about to get started on mine. He want to work right away and I was ready to go in 10 minutes! Mixed thoughts and feelings there. However, the price was alright and because he fixed it so quickly on the same day that I called, AND he was recommended by a friend, I figure he deserved a tip as well. I'm not totally sure I'd come back just because there isn't necessarily a system for leaving the car or place to wait, but all-in-all, it was a job well done so I'll keep weighing it as an option. read more

I've used this business for oil changes and a light change, they're great last minute, and service was quick and efficient. Right near the piedmont district of Oakland. Unfortunately, the owner was very rude to me after I'd called in the morning explaining some repair lights had gone off after we hit a curb very roughly. The lights had since turned off, but I wanted a professional to check out the car to ensure everything was still alright. I know nothing about cars. I wanted an honest opinion. I got that. Owner was very rude in delivery of the information asking me "why did you come, lights not on?" and "I won't be fixing anything." "What do you think we work for free???" I said "this is simply a safety check". They refused to do that. These guys saved me today - I'm from SF and was in the Piedmont area for landscaping work. On my way home I went down probably the worst maintained road I've ever seen in my life off of Piedmont and bam, check engine came on and my van started sputtering upon starting or stopping at lights. Felt like a misfire, and there is no way am I risking hopping on the bay bridge with this staccato, hiccuping engine. Bonus: I forgot my wallet at home, so I didn't even have credit cards on me. Awesome. I was more or less stuck in Oakland, so I thought. I was panicked to say the very least. Enter this place: they take apple pay (!!!!!!) and had time to work on my van same day. Amazing. That never happens at my home mechanic! Pricing was extremely fair and they got me out by 2:30pm after pulling in around 10am-ish. Van was smooth as can be pulling out and they didn't even adjust my seat like every other mechanic on earth does. Big bonus points for that. So happy with these guys that I'll probably make the drive back out here to get the brake service I'm almost due for. Really can't recommend them more.
