love trying a new coffee shop almost every day, so I was excited to find this place especially because they have a pool table. The atmosphere was really cool, and I was looking forward to coming back. Unfortunately, the service completely changed the experience. I ordered a mocha and specifically asked for extra, extra, extra chocolate. It came without the extra chocolate, so I politely asked for more. I had to go back a second time because it still wasn't right. Instead of simply making it how I requested, the employee commented, "That's like half a cup of mocha," which felt unnecessary. I wasn't asking for an opinion I was just asking for my drink to be made the way I ordered it. When you're spending $22 on two coffees, that's not an unreasonable expectation. My boyfriend and I also noticed two women playing pool and asked if they'd like to play doubles. Before anyone even responded, the employee behind the counter yelled over, "Hey guys, it's $4 per person." I said, "Okay, we'll pay after," but he then went on to tell us it was a "$4,000 table," as if we'd suggested otherwise. The whole interaction came across as rude and made us feel unwelcome. Charging $4 per person for a single game of pool also seemed excessive. 801 Coffee roasters is in my top coffee shops in the downtown area. I stopped in to check out this shop and really love the decor inside. The dark interior and plenty of bar style seating at the window give you a chance to work or study with a view of the street. The pool table in the middle of the room is a nice touch, and being next to the library also gives you a lot of options for studying or working. I ordered an americano and it came out perfectly. Great flavor, and really balanced. There are a lot of shops that can't get the strength right, but this one was perfect. The barista was very friendly and was kicking out orders quickly. Salt Lake's newest coffee shop just opened up. This no frills cafe is about quality coffee and espresso. They ethically source their beans and roast them in house. The roaster matches the interior decor of the shop. Black walls and ceilings with a beautiful plant wall. Located in the hip marmalade district with a blacked out pool table, comfy couches and plenty of seating to hang out with friends, get some work done, or grabs a latte to go. They have a food menu featuring local bakeries. But what stands out is the Nee Zealand meat pies. I recommend the steak and cheese, chicken curry, or potato top(think shepherd pie) read more

I always get a mocha at the coffee shops i try. The mocha here was okayyy. Idk it's missing the mocha taste, feels like a latte to me. The place it self is cool, built in wireless chargers on some areas. I like the black and brown wood decorations. read more

Love the vibes of this place! It's quiet enough to do work and isn't overly crowded with the tables/bar layout. They have free pool on the weekdays which is a plus! There's street parking around (I would recommend parking on 500 N and walking over). Every staff member I interacted with was so nice! I got a chai with oat (they charge $1 for alternatives) and it was ok, it was quite light and I'm not sure if I would pay $9+ (including tip) for it. I believe I met the owner when I went in and he had a full conversation with me and was a nice guy. He knew what he was talking about when it came to coffee and also made some good suggestions. I ordered two things a kouign-amann and a house made chai. I have an hour drive after working a 13 hour shift at the hospital Nights and I just needed something to keep me awake on the drive. kouign-amann. Not even close. It was stuffed with sugar paste. I'm not talking the normal amount of sugar on one of these. I'm talking that it was filled like a jelly filled donut so that when I bit into it, I had a whole mouthful of like granulated gel up sugar. I would not recommend this. As for the chai, it is a very bland hardly any flavor. Other than half water half milk. The temperature is great. Customer service was great. Cleanliness of the building was great. As far as the bakery items and the drink, I would not come here again. $12.82 wasted in my opinion. I cannot comment on their coffee. It looks like they know what they're doing because they have a coffee roaster. Maybe that's the thing you get at this place because the other items are definitely subpar. Update I went back in and told them my experience. They gave me a different drink and it was kaffeost. It was good. The foam was very creamy and the taste was subtle but good. My partner and I wanted to try a new coffee shop and decided to check out 801 (keep in mind you'll have to walk further south of where Google says it is) The vibes inside are very chill. However, we ordered a 16oz iced coffee and an iced rooibos tea latte. The barista, a pretentious 30-something ass, doubted my partner when she asked if she could get it iced. "I mean, it's tea. Right?" he says, seemingly offput by the idea that tea could possibly be iced. He ultimately convinced us to get a special winter drink, which, after my partner asked if she could get that one iced, he responds with a smirk, "I can do it, but don't tell my owner." He claimed the owner doesn't like when customers request accommodations, and that they should stick to exactly how the menu states items. Get off your high horse. You are a sterile coffee shop with 5 whole reviews. Customers will have requests. Get over it. He honestly made the situation awkward as hell, but I felt bad because maybe his life sucks, so I tipped him a buck. Side note: Literally as I type this up, two girls walk in, scope out the coffeehouse, and leave before giving it a chance. "Leaving already?" the barista says as they walk out the door. They make up an excuse to leave, and he responds with "I'll be waiting." Weird little man. I am uncomfortable. "Adam!" he says, ushering me back to the counter to pick up our drinks. He's smirking, still, as I walk over. He remarks, "I'm confident about that cold brew, but I'm unsure about that tea." I tell him that my partner and I went someplace yesterday and they made it happen. Insult to injury.
