Lovely stop after an extensive stroll through Memory Grove Park. I ordered a delicious iced coffee to quench my thirst and bought a bag of whole beans to take home to my partner. Probably one of the best coffee houses in Salt Lake City. They are up in the avenues, so parking can be a bit limited. They have an extensive collection of different types of coffee from different areas of the world. They do sell honeys and jam. Perhaps my only criticism is that I wish they would sell small breakfast bites. The service was fast and friendly they are only open from 7 AM to around 3 PM, so you can't get a cuppa Joe in the evening.. seating is very limited read more

First time there, just popped in I can tell that this place really cares about the quality of their coffee. Their coffee is delicious, but it was the Togo cup that sold me. Their lids are fantastic quality, not cheap flimsy plastic like you find at other shops. If they care about the details of the small things then it tells me that they care about the details of the thing that is most important to them which is their coffee. I went here after finding them on Yelp, and we should have read the reviews... We drove over, and when we came in, and did not feel welcomed. We were not wearing a mask, but we saw no sign, and we brought in case they required. When we walked in, they did not show us the menu. Two works were there, a male and a female. The male was not very helpful. When asking questions about what they served or would recommend, he only answered back in questions. It was uncomfortable to be inside, not sure if it was because we were people of color or something. It was almost as if they were giggling and our questions on the coffee. It's located up in the Avenues, a more liberal area of the city and the definition of Jack Mormon means not Mormon but friendly with Mormons and the Mormon faith, but engages in some non-Mormon vices. Caffeine in this case, being the vice. Wall to wall coffee goodness. There's a chalkboard map on the wall that shows you that their coffee comes from all over the world. Along the back wall are four bright red Coffee Kinetics Roasters. In the back right corner is a nitro tap that produces beerlike coffee. And then there were about 30 bean dispensers on the wall in front of me. What I tried: Cappuccino - The do a great espresso pull here. Strong flavor in their beans, aromatic, good milk foam balance. Can't go wrong with this. Nitro Cold Brew on Tap - The best way to describe this is that it's a coffee version of Guinness beer. The coffee and beer nerd in me had to try it. It was actually a little too dark and strong for me, but it was done really well. If you want something cold, dark, strong and frothy with some carbonation and a thick head of foam, then you've got to try this. The two lady baristas behind the counter were friendly and patient with my questions. It's easy to find parking along the neighborhood streets here. The only drawback might be that the store doesn't open early in the mornings and isn't open at night. If I lived in SLC, I'd find a way to stretch my 15 minute break into a 20 and head over here for a morning or midday break. Walking through The Avenues, you only have to follow that wonderful scent of coffee beans roasting to find this jewel. Walking in, the first thing you notice are plastic dispensers of raw coffee beans. When you speak with Cruiser, the owner, about the various beans he can tell you everything from flavor, tone, undertones, caffeine content and origin of the beans. When you order a cup of coffee, it is made fresh, one cup at a time, in a machine that vacuums the perfect temperature water through the grounds. When you buy beans, they are roasted fresh, one pound at a time in these cool little micro roasters, dropped warm in your bag and, let me tell you, no coffee will match this flavor ever again. We move around allot for business. Whenever we visit Salt Lake, Jack Mormon Coffee is one of our first stops. No matter where we are, we order our coffee and have it delivered. So my favorite roaster from back in Tucson stopped carrying my favorite beans, essentially curb stomping my coffee dreams along with my morning routine. I tried and was slightly disappointed with several other local roasters here in SLC, and finally came here. I don't know if I'm a coffee snob? I might be. I don't know about where beans come from and what their typical flavor profiles are like. I just know the flavor profile that I like. I hate the fruity/acidic flavors. Looove the chocolatey/earthy/nutty flavors. I described what I was looking for, and they helped me find an exact match. The beans I used to love were from Celebes/Sulawesi, Indonesia, but it must have been the way that the Tucson company roasted the beans that gave them their flavor, because the people here steered me far far away from Indonesia and towards Mexico I think? I guess Indonesian coffee beans don't typically have that flavor profile. It's entirely possible that's why I didn't like the beans from the other local SLC roasters, haha. I may have to give them all another chance. But they also didn't know enough to steer me towards what I wanted, whereas Jack Mormon Coffee did. Found some beans that I love, and I'll keep coming back to try more. :) read more

The shop looks large from the outside but has little room to maneuver inside with all that's going on. Jack Mormon has coffee roasters out in front toasting up some delicious beans, the bar for drink orders, a small nitro cold brew beverage dispenser in the back and a whole wall of coffee SWAG for sale. The dining area was quite small and does not accommodate very many patrons, but it was clean and inviting. The baristas are kind and helpful and know their stuff. Jack Mormon, along with roasting their own beans, also makes their own coffee concentrate, chocolate syrup and chai concentrate. They know how to throw down and whip up a delicious beverage! The only downfall, they do not have a public restroom here. Our group ordered a ga ma cha green tea and hot chocolate. We also couldn't help ourselves and walked out with an air tight coffee canister, a bag of fresh roasted beans and a small bottle of chai concentrate! Which added to the overall "I love coffee" ambiance. Once I made it to the register, I asked for a recommendation because the choices seemed daunting. The nice girl said I would probably enjoy the Cuarenteno from Mexico, nutty with chocolate notes. Of course I was game. Promptly she began grinding the beans and setting up the Clover machine. My large cup of black coffee was delicious. Subtle notes of chocolate and crisp on the palate. No bitterness, all freshness. These guys rock! read more

I want to update my review. Not because I've been back, but over time I realized that I was overly harsh. I still agree with everything I said. They source great beans. They have really good roasters, but I really believe they do over roast them. Places at this caliber are not roasting so heavily these days. It requires more finesse, but it gives more flavor when done right. Anyway, there are so many places that are dreck and there are other roasters that are worse. They really do deserve plenty of support. I just recommend people try other roasters before they make up their mind on what they like. read more

The prices are reasonable! The baristas are friendly and attentive. The only cons: they don't have wifi. They can ALMOST get away with this because it doubles as a store to buy coffee, not necessarily a place to hangout. But, I still love my wifi. The other con: nothing has prices on it. Located in the Aves of Salt Lake, Jack Mormon Coffee Co is not only a coffee shop but a small batch coffee roaster. Located in a registered historical building Jack Mormon sells beans, brews, merch and a few food items. The whole South end of the building is dedicated to poking fun of the dominate Utah cultural beliefs with all sorts of mugs, t-shirts and other goods advertising that I'm a jack Mormon and enjoy my forbidden coffee. You can tell it's a big selling point because they have multiples styles of shirts and sweatshirts and different cups and mugs with sayings on them. I've been guilty of buying things and bringing them home for friends who grew up in Utah. I may or may not have sent a few thing across country to some ex-Mormon friends. In shop are the bins of green beans ready for roasting. They do it in store so you can grab a cup of joe and sit while they are roasted right there. They have a small but diverse selection of beans so there is probably something for everyone. Beans rotate in and out of stock with the seasons so things do change. The staff are really nice here and attentive. Sometimes more chatty than others but maybe they didn't have their coffee today either. The interior is small but bright and welcoming. The seating looks out through giant store front windows onto the street. There are a few tables but big groups aren't ideal. Either way just relax and enjoy your coffee. Street parking can be harder sometimes because it is a residential area and there aren't many spots to begin with. But hey, that's not anyone's fault (well maybe the city's fault...) read more
