I've given this place a shot a few times now thinking it'd be better the next time I come in but I keep getting disappointed! The chai I got last time didn't have much of a taste. This time around, I ordered a pistachio matcha with almond milk to-go. They accidentally made my drink with oat milk but re-made my order which I appreciated. Upon picking up the drink, it felt pretty light. I couldn't drink it right away but by the time I did, most of the foam had settled and left a big gap at the top of the cup. The drink itself was more on the bitter side and was very clumpy, especially towards the end. I ended up paying more than $10 with tip. So, I trusted him and bought it, then brewed it at home. He also gave me a small amount of Ethiopian beans to test it. And he is right! I really like Bali Natural compared to Ethiopian beans. Personally, I think Salt Lake Roasting is just okay. I've been several times and my lattes have been decent but nothing special. Parking is hard a lot of the time since they have a limited number of spots so I often end up looking for street parking. It was also really loud the last time I came with some friends to study. One of the baristas kept on opening some drawers/cabinets and she was slamming them like crazy. It was really frustrating and disruptive. read more

It has been years since I've been to Salt Lake Roasting. The last time I was there was when they were in the old location closer to downtown and 400s. I stopped by here on my way to work one morning. I loved seeing how open and bright this place was, and it still had the upstairs seating, as previously. The staff was super nice and helpful in helping me decide what to order for foods. I tried their salted caramel latter and some chicken empanadas. Everything was delicious! The empanadas were super hot and fresh! I loved the flavors of the sauce that came with it too! We stopped in here around 9am on a Saturday. It wasn't busy at all. The baristas were very friendly and helpful. We got drip coffee, a dirty chai latte, veggie quiche, and their yogurt bowl. Everything was great. I wish I had gotten pictures. They make their chai in house and my wife said it was the best chai latte that she's ever had. The drip coffee they had that morning was their Columbian which is a lighter roast. I prefer a dark roast but this was really good nonetheless, and hot. Not scalding hot where I had to wait to drink it but the perfect sipping temp. It was good enough I got another one to go when we left. The food portions were bigger and better than I expected from a coffee shop too. The quiche was a pretty big slice and came with more veggies on the side and a sauce. We were immediately greeted and helped by the baristas, and our coffee was out quickly. They did a fantastic job serving the non-stop trickle of customers in the time we were there. Some of the most balanced, smooth and well flavored espresso I've ever had, picking up notes of milk chocolate and hazelnut. From the Americano, to the latte ordered, both were delicious and consumed quickly! To-go cups are almost a keep sake, the delicately decorated styrofoam brought back nostalgia. But you can definitely get reusable wear for staying or bring your own! A frangipane slice was also ordered and absolutely INHALED as it was the perfect mix of almond/sweet/fruity. Such a fun stop if you're from out-of-state or just looking to switch up your morning coffee routine. I discovered this local coffee shop on Yelp and paid them a visit today. The coffee shop is huge, high-ceiling and has a plenty of indoor seatings on both the first and second floor. The music is very chill and the barista was super sweet and friendly. My friend ordered a light-roasted pour-over coffee and he really likes it. I got the small lavender latte, which was very yummy . It's a local coffee spot but I'd also highly recommend it to tourists who are visiting from other cities as there are many SLC decors and wall arts inside the store. I had high expectations for Salt Lake Roasting (it is a cool, homey space) but left pretty disappointed. First, the coffee. For SLC, it's overpriced. My almond milk flat white came out to $5+, and was just okay tasting and too milky in my opinion. The serving sizes are also kind of weird (12oz, 16oz, and 20oz). Was surprised they did not have 8oz. My biggest gripe is with the wifi. For "faster" Internet speeds (which is still extremely slow at 10mbps download speed), you have to log in with your Facebook, Twitter or Instagram account. They claim they won't share any info and just use the data internally but I was definitely weirded out after logging into Twitter and seeing a message that Salt Lake Roasting would be able to view everything I tweeted and every account I followed. If you choose not to disclose your social media, the wifi is actually unworkable at less than 1mbps download speed. Overall, would not recommend working here and wouldn't go out of the way for their espresso drinks. read more
