There are plenty of parking stalls along the park, a large parking lot next to Magic Island. Lots of spots to get suntan so do not worry. Popular with families who have parties here for birthday or holiday celebrations. I recall having picnics or parties in the past with family. Only reason I have to mark off 1 star is that there are more homeless people or very sketchy off-ish kind of folks you do not want to interact with. I would say going during the day is fine but always be on guard regardless as crime can take place not only during night but daytime too.

I'm not sure if many people know this, but they used to have a library in one of the buildings. The main building is huge with a lot of empty space. I took karate here when I was a kid. Now, I vote in the same space when the polls are open. They have one huge parking lot and a smaller one on the other side of the park. It has basketball courts, tennis courts and a pool. The pool is only open at certain times. It also has a large field on the opposite side of the basketball courts. I've seen people play soccer on that field. People also have events on that field. Most recently, they had a kim chee day event. They have a small playground for kids and a community garden. It's one of the best parks if you ask me.

My friend and I…read morehave been over-policed twice with ridiculous rules (which we then apologized for and complied), and one of the staff (pictured here) accused my friend of flipping him off, she never did that, and we were leaving. I was trying to be logical and communicate with him, and he got in my face saying it's on the cameras? Yet when I ask to see the footage he stood silent. I believe my friend was racially profiled. We are just graduate students trying to get a workout together. It was a ridiculous and asinine experience. I don't feel safe going to the gym here at UH Manoa which I pay with my tuition.

The check-in desk can get a little crazy during peak times, since it's run by students and everything is new, but I'm sure with time it'll run a lot smoother. This rec center has it all - indoor track (walk/run counter clockwise or get scolding like how I did), cardio machines, free weights, weight machines, group exercise rooms, and an open basketball/volleyball court. Group fitness classes are available for free for students and faculty/staff with memberships: spin, powerplates, boxmaster, TRX, circuit training, and more. There are day use lockers both outside of the locker rooms (you do not need a lock to use these) and a few inside the locker room (you need to bring a lock to use these). You can also rent a locker for $75 per year. I'm surprised at how small the locker rooms are, and how few lockers there are. UH is hovering at 55,000 student enrollment plus over 14,000 employees. That's a lot of potential users of this facility, and while not everyone will use the facility or its showers/lockers, I think based on those numbers alone, they should have put in more lockers. The fact that they have already sold out of lockers on the Mens' side proves my point. Towel and laundry service are available for an additional fee. The price you pay depends on your classification. For UH Manoa students, it's free. Faculty/staff, UH Foundation employees and RCUH employees pay $240 per year. There are also daily, weekly, monthly, and 6 month rates. I believe UH alumni who graduated 2008 or later are also eligible to purchase memberships at $300 per year, since they had to pay the Campus Center Operations and Rec fee. But I guess if you attended UH during those years and paid the fee, but didn't graduate, you don't qualify. Although I now have to pay to use the gym (before we got to use the old fitness center on lower campus for free), it's ok, because I'm sure this gym needs the revenue for upkeep and maintenance costs. Generally speaking, government always builds new buildings, but they always have a hard time maintaining them. Now if only their fitness center for their D1 Collegiate athletes could be this good.

We went there for the playground but there wasn't any spaces in front of the playground so we had to walk just a little to get there. It's a really nice park to go to if you're in the area. They have a nice field, playground, basketball courts, and pickle ball courts. The playground is a little different from others because it has a zip line for kids. You hang onto a handle and with enough momentum you can swing yourself to the other side. My daughter loved that when we went to a park in California and we just never saw one of those in Hawaii. But now we know... They do exist! The playground is also in the shade so you won't get fried when waiting for your kids to finish playing. And there is a bench to sit and rest while you wait. Great park, we hope to go back there soon.

My husband works for the DOE and wanted to "check out" this park last year. Although we live in Moiliili, the drive is quick since it's right off the freeway. So glad we did... It's now one of our top 3 parks to take the boys! The facilities are well maintained, shaded by the huge trees that offer parents and kids shelter from the midday sun. My oldest son (4.5yrs) loves the swings and riding his scooter around the basketball and tennis courts. My youngest (3rd) enjoys jumping off the concrete benches and mastering the playground (which is more elaborate than the usual city park playgrounds around town). There's spinning chairs, slides, a mini zip line, drums, and chimes that kids can make music with! So cool! Parking is fairly easy to find around the park perimeter. Area has been consistently safe when we take the kids (about once every couple of weeks). Great for all ages but adult supervision is still recommended esp for the littles.

Police would come by and clear the area out but within a few days, the same encampments would return. It's unfortunate that I've observed questionable activity here. I now avoid the area unless it appears it's been recently cleared out. A number of people come with their dogs to walk around the area. I guess if it's daylight ( not to early and not after sunset) it's not too bad. Just be careful of your circumstances. Keep attentive of your surroundings here. I miss when this field was full of children and sports groups.

The face that there are no doors on the stalls or toilet paper isn't the worst part: It is like a cave, and you need backup in case there is a strange or dangerous person lurking about inside. There is a field. The field is super run-down, with many fun places to sprain your ankle, if you so choose. There are holes in the dirt that make pitching a kickball almost impossible, and you will likely trip in either a hole in the dirt or a clump of sad sad grass. There are basketball courts, which looked pretty full of people, as well as a kids' playground, which had the good rubber ground. Those are positives. The actual field is cool because it exists, and they let us play kickball there, but other than that... If you don't have a good reason to go to this location, I wouldn't, honestly. I drive a beater, so I wasn't stressed about parking in the area (street parking), but I felt bad for my friends with nice cars. I would NEVER go here without a group, especially after dark. I am pretty sure I saw some drug deals happening right outside of the park (no, I saw nothing, druglords!) My co-worker invited me to join this league which I paid $70 (early registration per person - it can be $80/person) for Fall 2017 coed volleyball. In Spring 2018 coed volleyball was $800/team for early registration. We had close to 9 people or so which everyone was okay paying. $87/person. Created our own team after we made friends with people and recruited more. Based on only knowing my coworker, they randomly put together my team of 13 people. Through this process, you can make friends from your team as well as from the other teams. I don't know how they decide placement of people, but I actually made friends (at least 7 people) with two opposing teams when we go to the bars after the games. Fall 2017 and Spring 2018 coed volleyball was sponsor by Champs (Sports bar) and Rock Bottom with other beer company (Pacifico and Corona) as these places give us discounts on those beers. I like Champs (Sports bar better) since they have more games and really good food. They always alternate each week of where the post-games are at. The regular season each in fall and spring had two "themes" and my team chose Power Rangers for "hero week" and "America" for "team week" A great way for people to be creative with their "theme" custome. Some teams will dress up prior to match and play in uniform or gym clothes We all got a shirt and each team is represented by a color of the same shirt. Wear your shirts if you want to get the sportsmanship score. It can be used as a tie breaker They allow selfies and the winner gets a $100 tab at a bar based on most people in the selfie, which my team only had maybe 4-5 at one bar and the rest is just 2 (my coworker and me), which we sometimes do selfies or photos with other teams. I wouldn't mind joining other sports this league offers such as: kickball, flag football and dodgeball. 2017 is their 10-year anniversary which our shirt from volleyball mentions. 2018 they went back to the style they used in past of what sport you're playing and what season and year on it. At least this league has some friendly people and some competitive, but it's mostly about having fun and meeting new people and socializing. They have playoffs which half the teams qualify for and if you win, money is donated to a local charity that the winner decides.

And after all those years, talking about 808 Sports Leagues and the kickball (and other sports) leagues they put together has never gotten old, especially trying to explain to tripped-out bar-goers on a Monday or Wednesday evening in Varsity or Rock Bottom why there are over 100 people walking around in off-beat, fluorescent or downright bright shirts ... Stranger/Future Kickballer: "So ... kickball?" Me: Yes! There's a league. And I'm on a team. S/FK: "I haven't played kickball since elementary school!" M: .... (Don't worry, we know every one hasn't. :) ) S/FK: (looks out over the sea of forest green, "WOW" pink and KOC blue shirts, among the many colors) "So, how many people are playing in this league?" M: Well, there's 24 teams, about 15-20 people per team, so you're looking at about 400+ adults playing kickball weekly. S/FK: "That's a lot of people. So, you guys have rules and everything? The red rubber ball?" M: Yup. Pretty much the same as schoolyard rules, except no one gets picked last, nah mean? And we even got playoffs and championships! S/FK: (looks around at the bar again, tries counting how many different color shirts) "So, you guys play, and then come out to the bar?" M: Yeah - it's all part of the experience. 20, 30, 40-somethings playing kickball, then chilling out at the bar. S/FK: "I'm sold. Where do I sign up?" ... Unfortunately, by the time we hit the bar in our red/green/blue/pink/orange/yellow/safety green shirts, rosters are closed for the season and you gotta wait to sign up for the next one. Hey - relationships have been started and blossomed over the game of kickball - when's the last time that happened at a pick-up game of basketball?
