We needed a last minute rental on the island to get us from Waikiki to the other side. Most companies were charging close to $200 for the day, but we paid only $50 for a one day rental. This place was conveniently located in my Airbnb, the Hawaiian Monarch. I first met with a worker, Steven who was super friendly and informative about the deal special of 3 days for $99. That's the best rate I've heard of on the island. Another lady got me set up for the deal the next day and unfortunately there wasn't any more $99 deal smart cars. I had to book the smart car with the sunroof, so it costs $167(ish) total for the 3 days, which is still such a great deal. The car drives like, "a go-cart," like Steven mentioned. I totally agree. Lol. It's a great deal and I would do it again if I could. Loved this experience! $20 for parking in the garage per night. Had the worse experience because they have this lady working at the counter now. Maria was rude, not welcoming, and had a horrible attitude. I guess we were bothering her and interrupted her time. Very friendly customer service at their two locations. There's one downtown at Prince Edward and this one is located at the Monarch hotel (444 Niu st). They have a daily rate of $69 a day or three day special for $99. They also offer parking overnight at the hotel for $20. This is great since we were staying 2 blocks away at the Hawaiian Hilton Village which charges $55 a night for parking. I have a smart car at home which I owned for close to 14 years, this is actually the perfect car for me in Hawaii. A couple of tips about the car itself first don't hit any potholes because of the small tires and low suspension. You'll get way better performance if you push the gearshift lever to the left and it work like a manual shifting car. It has five gears, if you push the gearshift lever forward it goes into a higher gear and if you pull it back it goes to lower gear. No clutch is needed. And lastly it does not have a spare tire, but they include an air compressor which is located on the passenger side underneath the foot covers. read more

I understand this is an island. But COCKROACH INFESTED vehicles shouldn't be accepted anywhere. I'm talking big, small, and bold!!! And the employees are fully aware they are an issue. And choose not to disclose to customers. All I'm saying is don't eat/leave anything edible in the cars, drive with the lights off, or get in the cars at all lol. Customer service from manager and owner is horrible. I've rented from them several times attempting to be loyal to local businesses but this company takes the cake. Each time I've rented from them was some type of issue. I tried not to make a complaint or a negative review but this time was the last time I will rent from them. This time they are trying to charge me for a mistake (yeah right) made on their part. I booked for 4 days returning at 5 pm on the last day. They owner called me at 8 am with an attitude saying "you need to return the car now" no customer service or politeness. Then they want to charge me extra fee cause they changed the return time on me. This company is horrible, the cars they rent isn't up to par and it's so sad. I'd gladly pay the extra from another rental company to get better service and better cars read more

Well for starters I came to pick up my reservation I have and when I get there the manager Deigan was there to help me and he was very lippy with me when I asked him questions. Then he was gonna have me rent a car with a cracked windshield and when I express to him that I didn't want to take that car because I can get a ticket. "Then he goes and proceeded to tell me that the other managers said it's ok to rent it out." And make matters worse he goes and say out loud " that he don't wanna deal with this while shaking his head and mumbling something underneath his breath. Then as he went to take form of payment he had an attitude and was very rude as he gave me the car keys so I could inspect the car. I will not recommend any of my friends or family members to come to you guys with this type of customer service. read more

PLEASE AVOID THIS COMPANY!!! COCKROACH INFESTATION! I had the worst experience with 808 and i am here to spread awareness to whoever is reading this to not book with this company. First of all they advertise false products in there website where they guaranteed a certain year of vehicle but instead they gave us a old rusty vehicle and did nothing to help us. Then the worst experience ever when we discovered that our car was infested with cockroaches. As soon as it hit night time and walked inside the vehicle we seen the dashboard, cup holders, all covered in Cockroaches. They came out from all cracks inside the vehicle and when we called and brought this issue to matter they did nothing in there being to help us out. They stated that "Hawaii is known for having a lot of cockroaches and could do nothing about it and that it was normal". How is a pest infestation normal? How are these vehicles supposedly sanitized if there are cockroaches all inside the vehicle? They have yet to refund me my money and shows you that as a company there morals and values are out of place. As you read through you will see I am not the only one who experienced merchant abuse. Please Avoid and do not book with this untrusted company. read more

We rented from the Niu street location and Vince was super helpful and provided us with amazing customer service. If you're looking for a car that allows you to practically park anywhere on the island without a ton of hassle, I highly recommend looking into their 3 day special. They have a daily rate of $69 a day (before taxes and fees) or $129 for 3 days. They also offer discounted parking with the hotel for $20 a night, which is way better than most overnight parking places in Waikiki. Great mileage at 40 mpg. Will def recommend! read more

If you're gonna drive a smart car, there's no better place to drive it than in Hawaii. I had the rental for their 3 day special, which was substantially lower in price than any other place had quoted me on the island so huge plus. I was a bit nervous to drive such a tiny car but really, with the slow pace of the island and minimal roads to get around, it was no doubt the best choice we made. We drove to opposite ends of the island everyday we had it and only spent $25 to fill it back up. And parking?! So easy, you'll fit in every spot which is another plus because parking sucks in Honolulu. They also had beach chairs, umbrellas, and more for rent in their office as well so take advantage of that! read more

I felt really bad for him but he was able to keep his cool and provided us great, friendly service. Vince is the best! Smart car rentals has numerous ways to charge you an additional $50 for sand in the car, parked wrong and towing, and having the manager come in at midnight to have to move the car.. DO NOT RENT FROM HERE ; the worse experience we've had in Hawaii. I rented a car for 3 days on the third day it broke down & didn't start : we called & they tried to automatically blame it on the tourist who rent the cars. We let them know we didn't want another rental because we were checking out the next early morning so it would be too late by the time we got another car . Because the car was broken down we didn't get to use it that day & fill up the gas tank. We never heard from them so we called back for an update. THEY STILL CHARGED our account without our consent . How can we fill up the gas tank when the car doesn't even start?! Make it make sense. The professional thing to do is to call for an update & let your customer know they're being charged. The best location, price & hospitality for those staying on Waikiki. They have 2 locations and more than the Smart Car, to rent. How does $19/Day plus $20/24 hour parking with multiple Exit/Entries, sound? Unbelievable, right. I have rented my vehicles from 808 Smart Cars, located at 444 Niu Street, on 7 different occasions. It's still unbelievable, but I keep coming back. Twice in 2023, alone and I live in Canada!! Vincent & Niko are great hosts. I have to give a huge shout out to Marie and Brian at the 2450 Prince Edward location of 808 Smart Car Rentals! They both provided excellent customer service for me and others! I had never driven a Smart Car before but Marie encouraged me in a low key kind of way to give it a try! And I was really happy I did! I rented the car for three days and it was super easy to drive, park and maneuver. I also rented a chair, boogie board and umbrella from 808 Smart Car Rentals. Prices were very reasonable especially considering the huge number of tourist visiting right now! Because I stayed in an AirB&B that was in the same building I walked by the rental office everyday coming and going. It was easy to see that Marie and Brian had a lot of logistics to navigate with all the people coming and going from all over and also calling with questions etc., but they did so seamlessly! Great experience with renting a car, but they should not be recommending the lot within the Monarch hotel. If you look up Yelp reviews for Park-A-Lot (the 444 Niu St lot), you will know what I mean. I was treated absolutely horribly by the parking attendants and after questioning what I owed, was ultimately refused service here (and struggled to look for close parking as a 25-year old female looking to not walk as far in the dark). When decided to rent a car while in Hawaii there were just so many places to call. We decided a Smart car would be ok. I happened to call this location and talked to Juliet! She was so awesome, she help me to understand the costs and even gave me a deal on one more day rental. They did not try to price gouge us like other places I had called. $200-$300/day! We were able to drop off the car after hours which was perfect for us to be able to see all we wanted to before we had to leave. I would really recommend this company to anyone going to visit. They have great deals and don't just do Smart cars, they have up to Van size rentals. The Smart car made it easier to find parking for sure so if you only have 2 people it's a great way to get around. We do plan to go back and I will surely come back to this company again! My partner and I went to Hawaii needing a car rental. We were struggling to find a rental that did not charge fees for those that are under the age of 25. 808 Smart Car Rentals were the only one we saw that did not charge a fee for under 25 drivers. As a matter a fact, they let people starting at the age of 21 to rent their cars with no fees. The employees here are so amazing and accommodating. They even moved their rental cars around just so we can get parking spot in the parking garage. Using the smart car was so convenient too since were able to park in tight spaces due to the car being so small :)! Highly recommend this place if you are a couple needing to find a convenient car to just explore around Hawaii! They even offer smart cars with sun roofs as well as big cars too for big families. I really wanted to like this place. We thought it would be really fun to drive s smart car around the island. As soon as we started driving it it was the jurkist car I had ever been in. Kind of like a go cart. We called 5 min after renting to see if we can return it and no answer. So we got to our house and tried again 15 min later and they said sure bring it back. Then get a call back saying we can't return the car if we did we would be charged for an hour which was actually half of the days rate. We didn't like the car so much we took it back.
