Perhaps consider staying after upcoming renovation to a Hilton. Giving one star is all I can do because I didn't complain on day 1 of our stay. The staff was kind and they are the best part of this facility. Our reservation was for two people yet the room only had one set of towels. I asked for second set of towels and 4 hours later, I asked again and waited for them to be handed to me. It was a busier day so perhaps they didn't have bandwidth for more prompt service. That's ok. Walter was kind and professional. Thank you, Walter. The website said due to covid, the breakfast included would be "Grab n Go". I assumed yogurt, danish and other items typically individually packaged from other hotel chains. They had nothing. The coffee maker in the room was broken so we went downstairs to find coffee. There was none to be found, but the manager was kind enough to make two cups in the Keurig machine in her office. Thank you, Lovely. A major kicker was that our room was infested with cockroaches, but they were so young I didn't know what they were until I spotted larger ones on day three of our stay. I informed the housekeeper that if she lifts any upside down cups in the room, don't be surprised because I caught a bunch so she can show her manager. I also informed the manager at the hotel, but they made no concessions for us except to stay that the hotel has new owners and the place is going to be remodelled starting tomorrow. I don't know if that's true or not, so I decided to post this review. A few other items. The shower was very modern but the toilet ran constantly. Clearly a water leak that needs fixing. The floor was stained and filthy. Never go barefoot. Wear slippers the entire time. I think you get the drift if you even got past the cockroaches. We stayed because this is walking distance to 3 family households we were visiting, but we will definitely not stay here again. I can not recommend an area code hotel chain based on this and I'll even shy away from Choice Hotels. The website states this is an Ascend Hotel Collection, but I saw no sign of that either.

Well...the price is right. Much smaller and less impressive room than On the website. Pretty bland in the standard room. Also a bit musty smell through out .Also thought it off that a 4th floor room window opens.. but just a little. . Didn't think that was code anymore. Also cable was out. They Did tell us at check in and could offer another sister hotel. But just one night &going out anyway. No blanket. Just a sheet and a thicker white cover (see pic) . Lobby seemed dark and drab and drapes on front window falling . And very noisy so close to Westport. So...probably won't choose again.

I try to not post negative reviews and reach out to a manager or someone at the business who can actually make a difference but.....stayed here July 2, 2020. They are in process of changing from a Choice hotel to Hilton. The staff was really good. They tried. A young man went and got me clean sheets. They had no housekeeping on at 7p when we noticed this. We had one set of towels. The in room AC was either cold or off. I have traveled for for over 25 years. There is no excuse for renting a room like this.

Travel size tissue box in room! Can't even supply full size tissues?!

Terrible check in experience. Room took forever to be ready. Website says you get your first drink at the bar complimentary...if they mean a girl slouching on a chair with an igloo cooler handing out wine in plastic cups a complimentary drink! The bar was never open, it had bar stools on top of it the whole time. No water available at front desk, was told to use vending machines. Would not recommend.

This was a nice hotel in the heart of the Westport neighborhood. Very close to bars, restaurants and businesses. They have access to a great Gym a few blocks away with everything you could want as far as work out equipment. We didn't stay in the themed rooms, but the updated rooms that we did stay in were clean and comfortable. The rooms and hallways were decorated with mural sized historic photographs of Kansas City and contemporary art. So fun to look at! The omelet breakfast was a great way to start the morning on Sunday. The staff was friendly and willing to answer any questions that we had.

Would definitely recommend staying at the 816 Hotel. We got in really late but it was no problem at all and they were kind to us even as we loaded in a bunch of music equipment. The omelette station at breakfast was great! We had a happy and restful night and couldn't have asked for anything more after a long 8 hour drive! Hotel 816 is a very unique hotel! They offer amenities that I don't see often and the staff there is very friendly and accommodating. Upon check in they give you a ticket for a free drink and the hotel bar. In the morning they have made to order omelettes even! We did not use the shuttle but they have it available to use to all guests and they will take you within a four mile radius of the hotel for free! So you can visit the sights without having to pay for parking or an Uber back and forth. This is a HUGE money saver. The hotel itself is in a great location for exploring the Westport area which every time I come to is growing and adding new cool things to. There are tons of restaurants and bars close by. There is even a restaurant directly next door that was featured on The Food Network. They have recently renovated the hotel so everything is new. I love how they decorated the hotel and the rooms all with large historic murals and pictures floor to ceiling of Kansas City. I actually learned something new from the pictures in our room about Kansas City having the world's first shopping area that catered to people driving cars (1931). Our room was modern and comfortable but also had the touch of local history. They were kind enough to let us have a late check out and even accommodated our request to stay a little later but just pay a half days rate. We will definitely stay here again when back in KC! We highly recommend it!

This was not a great experience at all. I had family coming into town and tried to book a hotel for them to stay. Please keep in mind not all the rooms have been remodeled. The retro term means it is OLD and damaged. The carpet had water damage by the door. The bathroom had mold and water damage on the ceilings. Giving it one star because we were able to get some money back after the ordeal. When booking a room ensure you are not getting the "Retro" room on the first floor

Jersey Mae really enjoyed Susanna's service at the bar!

Is 816 Hotel a 5 star hotel (even a true 4 star?), no not on many levels. However, it offers a comfortable stay with a central location within KC's oldest entertainment district. And it has the fun addition of themed rooms honoring local landmarks, traditions, and history of Kansas City. Also, the bonus of receiving a free drink ticket for checking in isn't half bad either, just keep in mind it's only for the standard baseline drinks (beer, wine or wells) offered at the bar if you want a Jamison it'll cost ya extra. But the Rosé is pretty good quality and will cost you a decent penny at other bars that serve it but I would recommend steering clear of the other wines haha. My staycation in the Wayside Waifs Room with my dachshund puppy Jersey and my boyfriend wasn't lacking in any way, shape, or form. I am utterly surprised by this lovely boutique hotel's lackluster rating on Yelp. When I discovered my bed didn't have the needed pillow cases they were replaced and fixed for me promptly while I was enjoying my Rosé at the bar. Everything else about my visit was sufficient and peaceful. Though it should be noted that I didn't choose to participate in the included breakfast either morning I stayed other than grabbing bagels to take back to the room. But, the second day the bagels were strangely absent from the breadbox at the breakfast bar...hmm? If you have a fur baby then the Wayside Waifs Room is for you, it is interior decorated by a veteran designer from a cable network TV show. The huge canvas of a technicolor pit pull with psychedelic print anchored the seating area with a small leather sofa. The stainless steel doggy bowls and the free treats provided by Three Dog Barkery were convenient and allowed Jersey to have a comfortable dining experience the entire stay (ha). Also, even though my puppy wanted nothing to do with it there is a built-in kennel to an adorable ceramic end-table. The bed also was mighty comfy, soft fluffy bedding and a nice selection of cable channels made me never wanna leave! If you want a hotel in the heart of Westport with high walkability and the option of interesting, inventive themed rooms then 816 Hotel is for you! F.Y.I it also seems that tour buses are often here meaning maybe they have a contract with some KC venues, meaning maybe it is possible to catch a glance of Ed Sheeran, not on Game of Thrones haha.

Ground floor room. Smelled awful. Broken lamp with glass remaining from previous guests. We were blamed. Very loud bar where the young Manager participates with shots & loud cheers. Not a safe place for women alone! The picture is of the young manager's wine glass & bottle at his desk while working. Apparently, this is encouraged at this property. It also probably directly affected his inappropriate behavior.

    Dents in walls.

Came in town the month of May for Mother's Day weekend to surprise our moms. We were there three nights. Stayed here and it was complete garbage from the jump. We get to the room and there's dents in the walls, smoke detector was covered with tape and a towel (not sure how housekeeping mused that), the furniture was old and dated. I took pictures and went back down to the front desk and showed the attendant and she told me "I don't know what that is, I would just leave it". I went back to my room and attempted to go to bed. The next day the toilet stopped flushing. I was out headed to the gym early morning and I stopped and told the front desk. I get back from the gym 3 hours later and still no flushable toilet. NEXT DAY IN THE SAME ROOM it rained and ALL of our luggage and clothing that we had on the floor that needed to get packed got soaked. Like, I woke up and the entire carpet was soaked in water. Front desk employee was very empathetic and offered me a refund. That's nice and all but it's mid June and nobody is aware of a refund knows what I'm talking about or even cares. I URGE YOU TO NOT STAY HERE! It's ghetto, ran down, and not worth the headache. I literally had to fly back home with wet luggage and soaking wet clothing.

We…read morebooked Hotel KC because our friend's wedding was hosted there, and since we were driving up from Texas, we wanted to make things easier by staying at the venue. My boyfriend was one of the groomsmen, so his weekend was already packed. We checked into the hotel on Friday so we could help the bride and groom if needed. When we got to our room, I noticed the door didn't close all the way. I'm usually pretty cautious about hotels and Airbnbs, so I asked the front desk to fix it right away. My boyfriend had to leave for the rehearsal shortly after dropping off our luggage. A maintenance worker came quickly, but after 45 minutes, he removed the metal latch plate on the doorframe so the door would shut. I told him that didn't seem right and completely defeated the purpose of the lock, but he didn't speak English and was using Google Translate. He said it was a temporary fix and that the front desk would assist us later. The door did close, but it felt like anyone could easily break in. Since we had a busy schedule, we left for the rehearsal dinner around 6. After dinner, we returned and asked the front desk whether the door would be properly fixed that night or if we could switch rooms. The front desk agent said they had multiple weddings that weekend, so all rooms were booked and nothing was available. She also said, "Our hotel is very safe, nothing happens." That's not something you want to hear as a guest. If I'm paying for a room, I expect to feel safe, not wonder if I'll be the first to experience a problem, especially since I had multiple expensive camera gear with me. We insisted on having the door fixed before bed, so they sent an "engineer" upstairs. When we explained the issue, he told my boyfriend that the metal piece on the doorframe was just for "aesthetics." At that point, my boyfriend was pissed. He grabbed the room key and a plastic spoon, propped the door open in front of the engineer, and demonstrated the issue. The engineer ended up calling two more maintenance workers and told us to leave for our event while they worked on it. We had to go downstairs for a late-night meet-and-greet, so they stayed to fix the door... again. When we came back around 11:30 PM, someone was still working on it. They reinstalled the metal plate and told me to slam the door hard for it to close. We had to do it multiple times, at midnight, while our neighbors were sleeping. He said it was the best they could do since no other rooms were available. We were exhausted and just went to bed. Saturday morning, the day of the wedding, my boyfriend left at 8 AM for suit fitting and to get ready with the groom. He asked me to check with the front desk, and they said we could switch rooms, but not until around 3 PM (normal check-in time). I reminded them that the wedding would already be happening then, and they apologized for the inconvenience. They sent yet another maintenance worker around 9 AM, this time with a drill, loudly working on the door and frame. I couldn't stay in the room with that noise (video), so I ended up spending time in the groom's suite. It was frustrating to pay for a hotel and barely have any time to relax in the room. There were constantly maintenance workers coming in and out, and I never felt safe being there alone. They finally moved us to a new room at 1 PM, right in the middle of the bridal party photos around the hotel. I couldn't carry all our luggage myself, so my boyfriend had to help me while wearing his groomsman suit. After everything, the hotel never apologized for the inconvenience or offered any kind of compensation. Overall, I'm extremely disappointed with their service. If this had been my wedding weekend, I would not have been this nice..

Restaurants and entertainment are at walking distance. Upon check in, front desk communicates via text message to ensure your stay is going well. Personally, had high hopes for the breakfast buffet, but was disappointed -- warm potatoes, breakfast burrito had an aftertaste and eggs were too runny... price is at $22 per person. Parking options are valet or self-parking, different rates depending on your choosing. Nicely decorated for Christmas season.

My wife and I have been staying at the Hilton President for decades. Two actually. We've stayed…read morethere since they reopened in 2006 and that was 20 years ago. We used to drive up from Wichita where we lived and I remember staying there with my parents when we flew my mother out at the time Garth Brooks played the T-Mobile center. It's always been a good hotel and they don't miss much however this time there were a few things that were irritating. When you arrive to the hotel, you must go in and check in before you can park in the garage. However, the rear entrance to the hotel is locked even though the sign says the door is open from 6 AM to 10 PM. Calling the front desk on the intercom system was of no use because they cannot unlock the door remotely. Also checking in on the Hilton app does not grant you a virtual key until you check in at the front desk. So you cannot park your car or enter the hotel from a convenient entrance until you go around front and park in the valet space to go inside and register. It's a silly and frustrating exercise every time. However, usually the back door is not locked. Our room was very nice, but the AC didn't seem to cool very well we were both very warm and sweaty while trying to sleep in early April. The icing on the cake was House Keeping tapping on our door with a key card 2 1/2 hours before check out to see if they could come in while we were still sleeping and we had the do not disturb sign on the door. We were not amused. There is no ace machine on the second floor, so don't stay there if you want ice. In the back of the hotel, there was an electric scissor lift parked under the fire escape, prohibiting the stairs from coming down to the ground. I'm not a fire marshal, but I'm pretty sure that's a huge violation. However, both Richie and Tyler working at the front desk, were the bright spots of the stay along with Jennifer, the bartender in the Drum Room. Richie and Tyler apologized for the shortcomings and gave us some coupons to try to make things right. We appreciated the gesture. I know local management isn't responsible for the shortcomings of the Hilton HHonors app, but they are responsible for training their staff.

Definitely a solid three star experience. The location is…read moreprime, and it's great to be able to walk to stores and food places without leaving the building. It definitely works as a conference space Staff was generally kind and accommodating- HUGe kudos to Jeffrey in the bar who gets five stars and needs a raise. He made our last night so special and was very aware of the cocktail menu, providing recommendations HOWEVER- for something that calls itself a luxury establishment, attention must be paid. The rooms are in SERIOUS need of updating and a deep clean. My colleague had roaches in his room and I had a weird slime mold growing behind the trash can, even though housekeeping came it's clear everything is very surface level. I would also recommend revisiting the policies for when guests receive deliveries. I have no idea where customer service went in the last few years but I received a very important delivery of medical supplies and the staff could not only not find it but I was not notified and nobody offered to bring it to my room, once it was finally found, a second delivery had already been issued and we were told the "fee would be waived" when it should've been found the first time. There is definitely room for improvement to take this place to the next level. When I told the front desk about the mold, they offered for me to change rooms but since I was leaving the next morning, didn't want the hassle but there was no apology or any offer of anything else for my troubles as a bonvoy member I may stay here again if there's a work event but I will inspect the rooms closely and expect better as the area is booming

DO NOT STAY HERE!! I'm thankful for Yelp ensuring that REAL,HONEST reviews are permitted and can…read moreNOT be altered by the business! The westin has turned their comments off on Google. I wanted to relax for a night and show my son a "high end" hotel. EXTREME LET DOWN and I was embarrassed. Upon entering the hotel, we encountered their officer having to remove homeless or loitering people from the lobby ‍. The ONLY good thing that impressed me was the waterfall. The demand you arrive at a specific time for check in or, you'll have to pay extra. The WHOLE place is dim and dark as you are walking through it. DO NOT BELIEVE THE PICTURES on line! THEY ARE MISLEADING! I asked if they could activate my mobile key so I could use the app...NOPE! They couldn't get it to work. We went up to the room on the 17th floor and again, dark long hallways with little lighting. This is concerning as well for safety. The room next to ours had the front door broken lock/handle broken off. Upon entering the room, even more disappointed came. The room is underwhelming for the name of the hotel. I had driven a few hours to get there and wanted some coffee. Guess what, the coffee maker didn't work. The "club lounge" was and ABSOLUTE JOKE! Not to mention it's on the 1st floor. The man at the desk responded as if he was annoyed that I was shocked the "club lounge " was on the 1st floor! Who wants to walk a mile to their room, then come all the way back down to the 1st floor to the club lounge . We go try out the "club lounge " and guess what?! My mobile key doesn't work to get in. So, I have to go back to the front desk and get a key smh embarrassing. The sp called food they had it there LITERALLY made me want to vomit. From the smell of it to the look of it (see pictures). The room was loud and you could hear EVERYTHING from outside. Do not expect to sleep good. The positive reviews on Google MUST be coming from ALL of the airline personnel we saw there. THEY ABSOLUTE MUST HAVE A CONTRACT WITH THEM because, THERE'S NO WAY!! There were so many of them. They don't care because they don't have to pay for it. I want to say it was southwest airlines (don't quote me but it was definitely the crew). The parking is a joke. TRUST ME, USE VALET or you'll be trapped in their parking garage! Absolutely the WORST hotel I've stayed in!! If I didn't go in the room and sleep I would 100 percent request my money back!. You've been warned!!!
