Pulled up at at 3 to see if I could check in. Attendant was like no not until the 4pm check in time. Didn't know what it was, but every other hotel checks and 99% of the time they find a room that is ready. Come back a couple hours later and check in. The smoke alarm is sitting above the hanging clothes rack with no smoke alarm attached where it should be. Turn on the TV. This channel is not available over and over again. I call the front desk. Ten rings. No answer. Wait a good twenty minutes. Call again. No answer. Go down to the lobby. Employee there tells me hotel wide problem. I said no problem. Left and came back a couple hours later. Asked if the TV's were working again. He looked at me like I was from Mars. No hotel-situation that he was aware of. Go up to the room. TV still not working. Go back down. Ask if I can move to another room. He now says it is a hotel-wide issue so no point. TV being out is not the worst problem in the world. I've had the problem at other hotels. They send someone up and fix it easily. Here you are straight up ignored if not slightly disrespected. Wake up this morning and housekeeping is knocking on doors at 8:45 in the morning. But they sure were knocking on our door at 9am the day of check out. When we checked in, our bathroom had a HALF of a roll of toilet paper. Thats all. Housekeeping couldn't be bothered when preparing the room for next guest to refill the necessities? Our reservation also was for 2 adults and 2 kids, king room. They couldn't even bring in bedding or pillows for the 2 kids that would be sleeping on sofa bed. We asked for pillows, but just like the toilet paper issue I am about to talk about, we never got any brought up as promised. Front desk said they'd send housekeeping to our room to bring more toilet paper. Never came. My husband went to desk and asked for toilet paperna second time. Nope can't give it to us. Got the whole "will send housekeeping". Ya ya ya Again never came. We ended up just taking some off their cart. Air conditioning is terrible. It stays somewhat cold in living part, but bedroom was warm and miserable. It also smelled musty like a basement. 3 elevators for 8 floors and 2 of them were broken down all weekend. They have omelet station if you have time to stand in the long line. And if you just want bacon or sausage, you have to stand in that same line which is just ridiculous. Why not place it at buffet like anyone else? Theyre terrible at refilling items, so if you want an actual breakfast, get there early. The parking fee is outlandish and unnecessary. Why? It is your OWN parking lot, not a city owned garage. There is no need whatsoever to charge 17 dollars a night for PARKING. Its nothing but a get rich off parking scam. What is happening with Hilton brand hotels? They used to be quality: Especially Embassy Suites which was always consistent on standards. We always preferred Embassy Suites as its nice when traveling with kids as everyone can have their own space. Very disappointed.

The Uber driver had to drop me and my belongings off in the parking lot of a nearby hotel. Fortunately, a woman at that hotel noticed what happened and allowed me to wait in her room. When we later returned to complete check-in, we noticed additional fees being charged through another who book on an online booking site. The my new friend encouraged me to leave, and she paid for a two-night stay for me at the hotel next door. I canceled my reservation and later requested a refund because of how I was treated, but the hotel refused. Expedia also declined to refund me. I recorded the encounter, and the staff showed no regret. In my opinion, they take advantage of online bookers who cannot cancel after the day before arrival, so please be careful.

So, I made an on the fly reservation and hit the road. If you have ever driven from Denver to Lawrence for a KU CU game you know it's a legit drive. When I arrived, I was pleasantly surprised. For being a mid-price point option it exceeded my expectations. The room was spacious and had a mini fridge for my Starbucks Cold Brew. The color scheme and the vibe of this property have a more youthful spirit, which aligns with my tastes and spirit. It has a pool table, a big TV for the Stanley Cup, a great room, and a place to purchase snacks. The room didn't have a dresser but had an area to hang my clothing. I left the dresser items in my carry-on bag. And stacked T-shirts and shorts on the bench area. There is also a work station that I used in the morning for news and emails. Strategic plug ins for charging overnight were also available. The bed was super comfortable and the climate control was perfect. The shades can go dark or can also allow for an outside view while keeping curios eyes blocked. The walk-in shower includes body wash, shampoo, and conditioner. Lotion is also provided. The lemon body wash was amazing and I liked it better than my everyday brand. All in all, my experience made it an excellent stop for the first leg of my trip, so I looked for other Tru locations in every city I visited. Also, I'm looking to spend 5 nights at a Tru in Miami, FL, to watch Messi play in a few months.
