I completely disagree with all of the reviews so far. I didn't try this place for almost a year because of the bad reviews. This place is great. Queensbury doesn't have much to offer in good Chinese food and these guys are more authentic than any I've been to in a long time. I went on a Saturday afternoon and it was only $9 per. There were not a lot of people here, which is just a shame. The buffet wasn't huge, but it was definitely big enough for a buffet. It had a very good selection of protein dishes and several veggie dishes. Small sushi selection, but good enough to get a taste of it, salad/fruit, and desert bars. *I'm finding that the locals aren't that how do you say... food educated around here, so if I were a cheap restaurant I wouldn't bother offering anything too extravagant either. But having said that I have to say some of the dishes were just spot on! No matter how many Chinese restaurants I've been to no one makes the hot and sour soup right. It needs a small amount of vinegar (hence the sour) and chili pepper paste (hence the hot). Trick for perfect hot and sour soup at this buffet: Fill a bowl with the hot and sour soup with all the goodies at the bottom of the pot then ladle one or two spoonfuls of the pot sticker sauce (has vinegar in it) into your soup then ask the waiter/waitress for some hot sauce (hot chili pepper paste - because it is not available at the buffet bar or your table you need to request it) add at least one teaspoon according to your personal heat tolerance then enjoy! Perfect hot and sour soup!!!! Their eggplant was really good too. I tried a little of all their protein dishes and found the meat tender and spiced well. Everything had an individual flavor. The wait staff was nice and kept on top of everything. The ambiance was very Chinese restaurant and that included the music. I felt like I was in a Chinese restaurant. Pleasant experience. The ambiance is nice! A little wishing well when you first walk in. Soft, zen music was playing. My family got a kick out of the zodiac placemats! The food was ok. The trays looked like they'd been there for a while. Granted, it wasn't that busy in the dining room. The shrimp cocktail, sushi rolls, rice noodles, and string beans tasted good but the general tsos chicken had a weird, powdery taste. They don't do anything for birthdays. One waitress stood in the corner yawning while others grabbed plates from the table. They were pretty attentive and friendly! Very rude staff. The restaurant was freezing cold and the food was also cold and stale. This was the worst experience I've ever had at a Chinese buffet. We got there at 8:15, and they close at 9:30. Many of the trays were empty or had a few pieces of crumbs left. They never refilled them and rudely told us they are closing in an hour and will not cook anything else. We paid in cash and even though the service sucked, we left a tip on the table, under a cup. While we were walking out, a lady rushed up to us and said "No tip!? No tip!?" Only very few selections as compared to other buffet, mainly chicken related dish with the same taste soy sauce. Desert is just 4 variety of cheap chocolate crackers pulled out of box. This restaurant is the best Chinese buffet I have had in quite a while. Now down by the capital region buffets have not been the best but this place just north of Queensbury takes the cake. Nice and fresh food, a reasonable price, fine customer service, and overall a good time. We're new to the area and have been trying out places for Chinese food. the Moon Star is the best take out for Chinese food we have found since we moved up here from long island. The food was ready when we got there to pick it up, it was hot and very good, People are very friendly and would recommend the Moon Star to every one. First of all it was only a buffet so only go if you are hungry. But for $15 it includes everything from appetizers including sushi to desserts and even our hot tea. Food is very good with a great selection. Nothing looked old or cold. The choices were always being refreshed . When it was a Buffet the place was wonderful. The menu now is pretty good. Unfortunately although I was a regular customer of theirs for many years they gave me a hard time excepting a coupon that was $10 off on a $60 order. I had called and placed the order and it was ready when I came to get it,When I showed him the coupon they said they were not excepting them anymore even though I Purchased it two days prior. Ugh, this place is just a sad shell of the buffet that was here years ago. (Monty's place... Chinatown?) It was dead on a Saturday in July, not a good sign. The offerings were scant, I tried a few different things but some were cold. All of the dishes had the same thick, sweet sauce on them and all tasted the same. Nothing tasted hot and fresh, likely all had been reheated from a previous service. There was a sushi area with some pre made rolls put out. I didn't dare to try but my husband did. He thought his food was ok, but not as good as the local takeout. The real kicker though was the dessert. They had a selection of store bought cookies from Aldi... I recognized the knock of Girl Scout cookies from there, nutter butter bars, etc. and scoop your own hard ice cream. Just really odd. The complimentary tea was good so I filled up on that. First time at the buffet. The food that my boyfriend and I ate was delicious. My only complaint is that the bathroom stalls are way too small. This building is fairly large so there is no reason why the bathroom should be so small. It felt like I was in a coffin and I couldn't wipe my own ass properly. Also, the toilets were shaky like they weren't bolted to the ground. Yes, I used both of them at separate times. Okay, so we have just eaten here and the experience was awful. When asked what drinks we wanted, I was completely ignored and my fiancé was given 2 wrong drinks. After that, we ordered the clam Peking style, egg drop soup and a pork egg roll. The clams tasted like dirty sea water and the pork roll is not even pork, it tasted exactly like steak and cheese. The soup was alright though. We were asked again what drinks we wanted, and again I was completely ignored, my fiancé asked for a different drink and was given two of the same drink he had before. One of the 9 Dragons is one of the wait staff! Really uncalled for. There is a playground inside the front door, probably for staff children. Rather unprofessional. This was my 2nd time going here, was about to write a great review the 1st time, but saw some others on here with poor reviews. I felt I should check it out a second time to see if it was just by happenstance that I had a wonderful experience the previous visit. I just want to start off by saying I couldn't disagree with those people who wrote the poor reviews more. The ambience of the restaurant is delightful, employees extremely attentive and the food was hot and delicious both times we visited. Spectacular items to choose from, so many I didn't want to put too much of one thing on my plate in fear of not being able to try all the selections available. Still even with small portions I placed on my plate I couldn't try it all, I was way too full. So much more on the buffet I wanted to sample and couldn't even test the dessert bar that looked great, but far too full. I'm eagerly anticipating my next visit to this buffet. This is our favorite restaurant in Lake George area. We have been going to this buffet since 2001, first as Chinatown, then as 9 Dragons. The hot and sour soup is our top 3, and we spend a lot of time in Manhattan's Chinatown. The egg drop is very good also. 9 Dragons is even cleaner than when it was"Chinatown". The crab rangoons are my hands down favorites. Occasionally the food on the buffet loses its heat, but most items are still enjoyable. General Tso's could use a bit more heat, but the pork dumplings and sauce are terrific. Service is almost always cheerful and prompt. Sushi is great for those who like fresh cooked items. read more

I used to love this place when it was Chinatown. My husband and I actually had our rehearsal dinner here about 10yrs ago because it was one of the places we went all the time when we first started dating. The buffet is definitely not as good as the old place and they no longer have the a la carte menu. I'm a vegetarian and I couldn't find much to eat...fruit, Chinese donuts, banana cake, and ice cream is basically what I ate for dinner. I don't have high expectations for Chinese buffets, only that there's a wide selection and it tastes generally good. I've seen more overwhelming buffets elsewhere, but not one where pretty much everything I ate was extremely tasty. I really liked everything I picked, from the honey chicken to the general tso's chicken to the pork fried rice. I'd like to also note that the tea was the right temperature (i.e. not scalding) and the desserts even included Girl Scout cookies and Ho-Hos! OK, so that's not traditional Chinese, but who cares? If a buffet closes at 9, and you show up at 8:30, don't be surprised if you don't get fresh trays. You're poor at planning.
