Calamari
Matt P.

Just right off of the center square with less traffic. We were actually walking towards another restaurant when we came across this one and for some reason, I decided to take a look at the menu. It was pretty similar to the one we were walking to so we decided to eat here instead. Was pretty tired from walking all day and just wanted to sit. We ordered the calamari appetizer to start. I ordered the steak. They also gave us 4 slices of bread with butter to hold us over while waiting for our food. The food came out at a decent rate. My steak was cooked medium rare and was pretty bland. I had to add salt & pepper to it and that made it better. Don't understand why they didn't season it at all. The calamari was pretty pricey for 5 rings at 10 euros. It wasn't over cooked and not rubbery. I thought it was just ok though. The steak was good after I seasoned it. Service was great and attentive. A good choice if you want something away from all of the tourists area.

Burrata

Chicken tandoori: ok, but you're ordering it in a Belgian pub... Faucis: nice regional dish, broccoli cooked to perfection: al dente, not overdone. Burrata salad: good greens, tomatoes, cheese. Surprisingly large portions.

This spot was recommend by a local. Waited 30 minutes for a table. They were short staffed. Very cool restaurant on the inside. Food was wonderful. Recommend the Flemish stew and tenderloin.

more like a 3.25 out of 5 stars. When we finished out Bruges and Ghent tour, our tour guide mentioned to come here as it was one of his favorite places to eat in Brussel. This review is for take out. I walked in and ordered take out, and it took about 15-20 mins for them to make my Flemish beef stew. They don't have a large space to wait, as it was extremely packed when i went. I guess it was a good thing i brought it back to my hotel to eat, since there was even a wait to get seated. Maybe the review might have been different if i ate there, but the stew soaked everything and my mashed potatoes were covered in sauce. Also, they didn't provide bread in the to go bag, and they didn't provide utensils as well. The dish itself was very tasty, but i wish i got more beef. lol location wise, its not far from the grand place at all.

Food was good, and plentiful. Service was quick, but we were packed in like sardines! Great beer list too. My husband had the duck and it was a bit dry and tough. I had grilled prawns which were very hard to shell. Pub vibe with lots of noise. Not my pick for the last nite in Brussels, but I would return for the beer and sausage in our next trip. They looked great!

Dinner here was really nice, came on a Sunday night and it was pretty sleepy. The menu had someone for everyone, and I really wanted something Belgian so I went with the sausages and potato with gravy. Would totally recommend. The gravy really brought every bite together, the sausage was crispy and the right amount of gamey, and the potato with carrots was a nice base for it all. Plenty filling and enjoyable.

We were only in Brussels for less than 24 hours before flying out, and we were looking for somewhere for an authentic Belgian dinner. We chose 9 et Voisins and I am so glad we did! The atmosphere was pleasant and cozy, the service was great, and the food was delicious. The prices were reasonable, and the portions were good. Do yourself a favor and arrive a little early, as they do not take reservations. We arrived around 6PM and the restaurant was fairly empty, but when we left an hour or so later, it was completely full. Credit cards are accepted, which is convenient, and we did not feel out of place as tourists, but the atmosphere was authentic and there seemed to be a nice mix of locals and foreigners. We started off with a couple of delicious Belgian beers. They have a great selection available. Prior to our main dishes arriving, we were served some delicious bread. I had the Lapin à la Kriek, rabbit in beer sauce, and I was extremely impressed. I believe my significant other chose the lamb, which was also delicious. 9 et Voisins was an enjoyable dining experience. I would recommend checking it out if you're looking for delicious and well-priced food with a great atmosphere in Brussels!

Great food, good drinks, nice service - much faster than your else in Brussels, the only negative would be that they only take cash. It was a little difficult for us to find the working ATM that late at night.

Excellent place to go for traditional, hearty Belgian offerings! Casual atmosphere, reasonably priced food and nice service. I would return on my trip to Bruxelles! I very much enjoyed the pork knuckle with mustard sauce. The tiramisu was delicious! Must try!

Great place to go and meet friends. The place is small but they do a great job with accommodating large groups. I had the beef stew and it was flavorful and filling. The prices are comparable with other restaurants in the area. My friend had the rabbit which was also tender. I was not disappointed trying this place and because the tables are so close we met some friends in the process.

While the register states No Cards one of the servers told the table next to mine not worry when they didn't have enough euros. Only a drink menu was provided and the dishes being served that day were handwritten on moveable boards or posted on the wall. I had on my list a couple to try but finally went with the Belgian carbonades à la biere which was beef stew with mashed potatoes in a dark gravy made with beer. The plate was quite generous and much appreciated since I devoured it. I enjoyed the creaminess of the potatoes swirled with gravy but the meat could've been a tad bit more tender. Service was good. I think everyone on the floor stopped by my table for one reason or the other. Ambiance was casual and looked like many people were taking their time over their meals. When finished you need head to the register to settle the tab. I paid in cash. Worth a return visit.

Ah.. the Belgian experience. If you're familiar with it, you probably appreciate its peculiarities…read more If you're not, well why pass by a country and not try "local" as the kids like to call it these days. I've never seen a country handle potatoes better than Belgium and I've tried fries overseas. Trust me when I tell you that there's a technique to it that many countries do not master, unfortunately. Now, the Belgian experience.... You need a restaurant called a taverne. A place where the "menu of the day" might be a grandmother's vol-au-vent, stoemp with sausage or another variety. You'll need lots of-and I mean- lots of beer; the classics and the crafts for the more modern folk. You wouldn't want to miss the one thing that make tavernes so recognizable: the deep green over deck that covers you when the inevitable Belgian rain comes pouring down. It's lovely how many different faces you'll see at restaurants like these. It ranges from groups of women grabbing a cup of coffee while bikering about whether or not one of them should call off her wedding. A huge family that had to have a family meal right there and then with the rowdy kids to match or couples, that desired to create intimate bonds through the one thing they'll always agree on: good food. Does it matter that the sauce that accompanied the duck had way too much alcohol in it for my taste? Or that the over deck was a tad bit too short , which caused half of my body to be wet from the rain? Or that this place wasn't that special but I liked it anyway? Because when I look back, the tad bits of "just good enough " that I found at Dynasty created a moment that I cherish in my heart.

Once you've entered Place St. Catherine, you're completely out of the main tourist district which is nice if you want something more authentic as opposed to overpriced and themepark-like. Viva M'Boma is small, clean and has an understated elegance in its simplicity. It's apparent once you see the menu that you are there to experience something you wouldn't normally get at most places that label themselves food-centric (they specialize in organs). Not only is the menu eclectic; they deliver hard core with flavors that are savory, intense and exquisite. For the starter we had Kirr with cassis as an aperitif that accompanied an order of pan-seared calf's brain in a beef boullion with onion and garlic, and a fois gras in a very traditional presentation. Both were outstanding and a good prelude of what was to come. We placed the second order once we finished our starters so that we could carefully select the next delicious offering as there were so many awesome things to choose from. I was tempted by the Pot-au-feu, essentially a stew of beef cheeks, oxtail and marrow, but was swayed by the waitress to the solomillo of horse, cooked blue and with a glass of St. Emilion. Yep, it was incredible! The meat was cooked expertly and the pairing showed of a true professional. My better half had veal cheeks that were stewed in beer and fell apart when you so much as touched them with the fork. This dish exploded with flavor and left us wanting to lick the plate after it was done. We finished the evening off with a house-made speculoos ice-cream (gingerbread) and caramelized apples... Pretty F'n awesome! We really enjoyed the experience, hospitality and knowledge of this establishment. We never felt rushed and all our questions were answered kindly and consummately. If you are in Brussels and are looking for something truly special, masterfully prepared and unlike anything you normally indulge in, please visit this place and stay away from Rue des Bouchers.
