I need to literally eat my words. I have been back a few times lately, and for the most part, everything has been quite good.

Dining at 9 roses was such a culinary experience! If you are looking to have an authentic Vietnamese food experience, I highly recommend making the trip out to the West Bank to dine here. We started off with the Spring Roll Grill and it was so delicious. They prepared all of the ingredients and we got both chicken and shrimp for our spring rolls. Additionally, we have one of the Moo Shoo pancakes and it was a new experience and new food that I tried for the first time. We also got the catfish dish with rice and had one of the hot and sour soups. They were so many options and this place felt so authentic to be able to try and explore different Vietnamese dishes. We were honestly very full with our first two dishes as a group of 4 and they were so generous with their portion sizes with affordable prices. I definitely plan on bring friends and family in the future when they are visiting in the near future one day again!

Both dishes were average. The flavors were outstanding. I got a glass of the Vietnamese coffee; it was pretty watery. The Mongolian beef got good taste from the sauce and well marinated. However, the meat to vegetables ratio makes this dish more of a vegetable and beef stir fried. The combination pho soup is very well done, but someone needs to explain to me how it's a combination. For a combination, there are usually 4-5 parts of beef but I only got three types of beef, meat, mostly beef fat and the meatball. The service was fine. Nice and clean table. Might go back to try their kbbq or Vbbq (?)

The food is so good and serve in big portion. Nice ambiance. We enjoyed all of the food even though it's only 2 of us and two little ones we ordered a lot to try out. Fresh to taste. Love it! A little gem

WOW this place has probably one of the largest menus of anyplace in the New Orleans metro area!!! It isn't as large at it used to be but it is still quite extensive and includes items I've never seen at other restaurants in the area. They have abalone soup, various versions of pho, Chinese, Vietnamese, and several other Asian dishes thrown in for fun. The only complaint I've got is they don't offer jasmine tea like several other Vietnamese places do (maybe they do and I just don't know how to order it). I see more Vietnamese people eating here than just about any other place I've eaten in the area so maybe that means this is a really good authentic Vietnamese place. I really enjoy the food here and it is a really good value and actually just a downright cheap place to eat with fantastic food. They have some great value lunch specials here that are larger in portion size than many other restaurants dinner size portions! My video review of 9 Roses is here: https://youtu.be/eEtwdOCe8sI

On a scale of 1-10: service 1- I ordered by phone for lunch combo. I felt like I was having my order taken in the drive thru at McDonalds. Very quick very rushed. No please or thank you, just "yeah... Okay...What you want?.. uh-uh.." that vibe. Food 2. The rice portion was smaller than my hand and not fresh. There was one shrimp. The chicken was hot and crisp but that sweet and sour sauce was way too thick and the eggroll was nasty. I can't say much more than that because it was just a lunch but I won't be back. In this economy... with these prices? I expect way better than that.

We love vietnamese food. Food was really good here. We came around 12pm and it wasn't busy. We were seated right away. Service was good. Big and spacious place. Indoor dining only. raw beef salad- so good beef and pork spring rolls- good clams in basil sauce- very big clams , very good duck salad- very good catfish sour soup- very good

Excellent food and service. The favorite was the pho. Plently of noodles, meat, and broth for the price. The chao tom was not for me. Lack of shrimp flavor and tasted really oily.

The food is mediocre. The service is poor. The ambiance is old, gloomy and unappealing. The waiter was friendly, but the waitresses were awful. They pushed for the full menu rather than the lunch special. The shrimp and pork rolls tasted weird; I'm unsure if it's the pork or shrimp. NOT fresh. The eggplant dish was delicious. I don't understand how anyone recommends this place.

Mandarin chicken lunch special. I forgot to take a picture before I started eating.

I gave the 4 star review as an overall score for the restaurant, including past visits. If I were rating just this food and experience, it woumd be a 1. Let me start by saying that 9 roses has been a favorite vietnamese food spot of mine for over 20 years, back before they moved to their current location . I was craving mandarin chicken and happened to be on the west bank, when I saw they made it, my first thought is their vietnamese is great, I'm sure this will be good too. I was wrong. First, I was getting it to go, they informed me that the to go order does not include the soup, that normally comes with the lunch special. I thought, "maybe they don't have soup togo containers", until she asked if I wanted to order it separately. No change in the price for not getting the soup either. I reread the menu and it said it came with tea, which when I asked for it, they seemed annoyed. I drove about 15 minutes home, so it shouldn't be too different than what you would get with dine in. The chicken was overcooked and very chewy. The gravy is super bland and the egg roll was very greasy. The fried rice was pretty bland too. I will not order chinese there again, but will return for their yummy vietnamese food. Very disappointing for over $14.

Thankfully, Magazine Street offers plenty to do to pass the time! When we were finally seated, our table was toward the back near the kitchen. The interior is a cozy but tightly packed space, which means it gets pretty loud with all the chatter bouncing around. However, any issues with the crowded feel vanish once the food arrives. The food and service easily make up for it. Our waiter brought out complimentary fried beef dumplings with a house-made chili sauce that tasted incredible. We ordered the Pineapple Fried Rice (shrimp, pork, chicken, egg, pineapple, and onions) and it was absolute perfection. We also got the lightly battered Orange Ginger Chicken with broccoli, which had amazing flavor. Well worth the visit!

The name may have shortened, but the experience is still just as memorable. From the outside, you're not really sure what you're about to walk into. You get a hint of the Asian aesthetic, but you don't realize how immersive it's going to feel. Then you open the door. Right at the entrance is a koi fish pond with a small bridge over it. No, you can't walk across the bridge, but the koi are real, and you walk right by them on your way to the dining room. It immediately sets the tone. The dining room itself feels like you've stepped straight into China. The decor, the lighting, the details, everything transports you. It matches the cuisine and elevates the entire dining experience. The waitresses are incredibly sweet, respectful, patient, and kind. They answered all of my questions about the menu without hesitation and made sure we felt comfortable. The service feels authentic and attentive without being rushed. I ordered the boneless chicken with vegetables, fried rice, and egg rolls. The homemade egg rolls are always my favorite. You can absolutely tell they're hand rolled and not pulled from a freezer. The boneless chicken is made with hand cut chicken breast, and the batter is soft and flaky. It almost melts in your mouth. Everything tastes fresh and thoughtfully prepared. The portion sizes are generous. It's definitely a eat now, eat later, and maybe even share with a friend kind of place. If you've only ever ordered takeout from here, you are missing half the experience. Sit down inside and take it all in. It's one thing to eat Chinese food. It's another thing to feel like you've been transported while doing it. This place leaves an impression.
