They did have a basketball game on as background noise. We started off lunch woth cha gio dac biet. They ertr crispy and good, but very tiny. almost miniature eggrolls but were fried springrolls. my Fiancée ordered com thit nuong while I had bun bo hue. her dish was bland and dry with pieces not thoroughly cut. my Bun bo hue was a little spicy but needed much more flavor. definitely would not recommend if you're looking for an authentic vietnamese cuisine. read more

Pho Surprise is one of our regular lunch spots in this part of town. This is a simple Vietnamese Restaurant in a small strip mall, but they are always open for lunch, it's easy to get a table, place an order and minutes later enjoy our meal. On our last visit we started with an order of Spring Rolls with Tofu. We also shared a Rice Plate with Grilled Shrimp along with the Rice Plate with Stir Fried Beef and Assorted Veggies. This place is definitely lack customer service. We called in advance to make sure they are open and allow them time to set up table for 7 people. We walked in. This place is dead. It was very dark inside. Places like this worries me because what are you hiding with this poor lighting. I ordered an avocado smoothie with pearls. Of course they are out of avocado. After a few other tries and kept being disappointed. I asked for water. The waiter asked, is bottle water ok? I said, no, tap water is fine. Waiter said, we don't serve tap water. Now I'm curious....what's wrong with your tap water? Are you using the tap water to cook that you can't serve, what's going on?!?!? Waiter got really ugly and I told him that he realizes that we are about to drop some money and you are out of everything we asked. How do you stay open if you don't have anything customers asking on your menu and not even tap water. I'm done ranting but definitely take your money somewhere else. Love this little gem. We sort of asked for a customized Pho, which consisted of chicken broth with veggies (broccoli, carrots, celery, and mushroom). The broth was very light but full of flavor. It wasn't bland at all (as I always fear with some light soups). The veggies were fresh and crisp, including the lime, cilantro, bean sprouts, and jalapeño that come on the side. The shrimp fried rice was also delicious. It's not an official menu item, but the employees do their best to customize your experience. I do not think that shrimp fried rice needs a great explanation, but just know that the rice was fresh, seasoned well, and cooked properly. I did not like the shrimp spring rolls, but I think that's more of a personal taste than objective taste. Finally, the bubble tea is a smoothie dream. I'm iffy about the tapioca, only because they tasted like odd gummy bears, but the actual drink is delicious. I had the mango flavor. Try! This place has the best Bun Bo Hue I've had in the area. The broth was delicious -- not too salty or oily like other places make it. They are very generous with the protein portions, and the beef was very soft and tender, but I wish there were more noodles. I came here before and enjoyed their BBH but this time I wanted to try something else. I got the pho thai chin (rare beef with brisket) and it came out a little too oily for me. Lacked flavor as well. My mom, however, enjoyed her hu tieu mi (clear and egg noodle soup). I think I'll just stick to BBH the next time I come back. We accidentally came across this place last week (I have accidentally been spending too much time in Kenner) and it was a pleasant surprise. To start, $2.95 for two spring rolls can't be beat! We tried the grilled pork variety and they were very flavorful! My partner also ordered the grill pork bun (big surprise), she was pleased, and I had the lemongrass beef bun (as a change of pace) and thought it was a little too saucy for my taste. Walking into this place it seems dated. There's not a lot of light. There's no fresh pho smell that you would expect from a Pho restaurant. But we gave it a shot since our usual place is closed. We sat ourselves. The server was nice and brought our menus. We sat and pondered what to eat. I finally settled on the Spicy Beef Noodle Soup and my hubby got the Shaken Beef rice plate. I also ordered a strawberry smoothie with tapioca pearls. The rice plate was huge but portion size was small. One cup of rice with maybe a cup of diced beef. Some veggies and sauce. It was tasty but for the price, you would expect a bit more meat. I had the spicy beef noddles. It had pork blood in it! Which was awesome! The bowl had good amounts of noodles and beef. What I didn't like was the massive amounts of shaved lemongrass in my soup. Each bite, I had shaved lemongrass to accompany my delicious soup. At the end of my meal, my drink still did not come. As we were paying, they decided to charge me for the drink and make it at the counter near the register. I said I don't want it now that we are done with our meal. They were hesitant but eventually took it off our bill. I probably won't come back if I can help it. We went there this past Saturday I was excited my fiancé usually doesn't not care for Vietnamese type food so I picked this place after she said she would go because I know how good there Bun Bo Hue is and I always get it with Glass noodles, The waitress took 30 mins to come take our drink order then put the wrong noodles in it and then told me I ordered wrong then the other waitress came back to say she was sorry and that the restaurant was out of glass noodles, bubble tea, and I couldn't order another bun no hue with different noodles. Three reason's why this gem is on my list of places to eat in Kenner: 1. Speedy service. I placed my order with the waiter and within ten minutes i got my precious bowl of Bun Bo Hue. 2. There are also only a few places in NOLA where they serve blood cakes in their beef noodle soup. This is one of them. 3. I hate spring rolls. But idk what it was, but theirs changed my mind. Maybe because their peanut sauce was addicting, or the pork within the rolls was packed with flavor! As you can tell, my experience here was great. At 3:50 I was hit with a craving for Beef noodle soup. Bad news was that favorite place was 10 minutes from closing time and I was 25 minutes away. I happened to passing a Pho restaurant I had ever seen or heard of before. Upon entry it seemed very clean and smelled like. Vietnamese restaurant should. I asked a fellow patron of this was a good spot. He said it's his favorite in the Metairie area and surprisingly enough he recommended the Beef soup. Service was fantastic and timely. I ordered the Spicy Beef soup without hesitation. I also ordered and order of grilled pork Spring Rolls. Spring rolls were out of sight. They were served 2 to an order accompanied by a very tasty peanut sauce. Beef soup was not as spicy or as rich as I like. That said, it was still very good. It will in no way replace my faorite spot but I would be happy to stop by again if I were in the area. They were right there at a 4th star and after I return they will probably get it. Let's start by saying I've been coming here for many years and how things slowly go downhill. Last week we went for lunch and we all pretty much order the same thing each time ... the food is mostly good but each week they find another way to pinch a penny from you. this week was the best!!! THEY REFUSE TO SERVE YOU WATER. They told us we had to purchase bottle water,well if I can't have a glass of ice water I will never walk back in your establishment again and neither will the group of guys that eat here each week I hope that walk to the ice machine was worth you loosing several good Customers... many more complaints but not worth my time we won't be back we will go to pho NOLA they serve water there. read more

I love this place! BBH - always really good and already has a kick to it. I like my food very spicy, so I wish they had a different type of sate to put in. Pho - their broth is so flavorful. To the point where I don't need to add anything to it but a little sriracha or sate for spice. That's my type of pho broth! The accoutrements for their pho doesn't have cilantro included so you have to ask, but it has the usual bean sprouts and basil. For the BBH, it has cilantro, cabbage, and some other stuff. And always lime. Lemonade - they make it to order so it doesn't come out as quickly as other drinks you might order that comes from a can. If you don't like it too sweet, make sure to let them know! Their service can get pretty slow sometimes if it's busy, but I think bc this a more hole in the wall pho spot, they don't hire anyone other than family. But the food usually comes in a timely manner. I haven't tried their bubble tea or any other dishes to comment on it, but this is one of my favorite Vietnamese restaurants! They're known for their BUN BO HUE! Someone once told me it's one of the best one in town and I had to give it a tried. It was the best decision I ever made. Their BbH was the bomb and their portion sizes are enormously big. It was the worth the money and the drive since it's located near the airport. Ordered a LOT to go yesterday and WOW, it was all so good. We had shrimp and broccoli, rare beef pho, combination fried rice and a Lotus Combination Salad. Everything was delicious, but the Lotus Salad? Amazing! I would only say that I would have liked more shrimp in it, but otherwise, splice great flavors. There is a flavor in this salad that I am unfamiliar with...it's a fresh herb that I just can't put my taste buds on. The shrimp and broccoli was devoured in one sitting....unusual for my girlfriend...but she said it was so good, she couldn't stop. The pho was good and had plenty of protein. The combo friend rice was plentiful and had the perfect amount of protein. The service for pick up was great. My food came out of the kitchen in the time I was told it would.
