the flavor was not that good. it was definitely just mediocre. the tamarind and nuanced flavors in the pad thai was not memorable and very oily. the pad kee mao was not spicy or had any indication of it. the noodle portions in my takeout order was inconsistent per the pictures. both dishes reminded me of how american chinese takeout is protrayed compared to real chinese food. people go to the American chinese takeout spots for convenience but it's generally just "ok". similarly, this place is just "ok". i would not recommend this place. read more

This is a good lunch spot in Center Newark area. Their dishes are pretty tasty, at least the thai basil sauce that I tried. It was a really good mix of vegetables, peppers, chicken and basil sauce, a good portion of rice with it too. The chicken wings looked tasty too, though I didn't get to try it. The place is small with additional seating upstairs. I got the chicken pad kee mao (chose hot spicy level). It is very good and had some kick to it but if you like really spicy then go with very hot. My coworkers enjoyed their green curry and got very hot. I also ordered a thai iced tea and liked how they double sealed it in plastic and paper bag for added protection against spills. We ordered - a chicken pad thai: excellent, large portion, lots of scallions, herbs, etc... - a chicken with thai basil sauce: also excellent, quite hot but sooo tasty. All together with a peach iced team and a spring water, it came out to $31, so very reasonable at $15.50 per person. Branching out beyond Portuguese and Pizza for dinner on Fridays, we decided to try 9 Thai based a recommendation from our neighbor. We order the Chicken basil fried rice Shrimp Pad Thai And a whole fried fish with mango salad on top The whole fish was surprising better than I thought but it was saved by the mango salad which was delicious on top of the crispy overfried fish. Since we order delivery, the fish came wrapped in a foil and the salad in a wonton container, that was clever. My partner pad Thai was okay, he was disappointed that after paying extra for the shrimp it was rather small in portion. The portion was also disappointing on the fried rice. For $12 it was definitely not worth it. Will probably not be ordering from here again. It's a shame that there's not good Thai option around. I'm sad to see others have not had as pleasant of an experience with this spot as I have. As far as a local Thai restaurant in Newark goes, this is definitely the best in my opinion. The staff is very friendly and kind. I probably order from here a few times a month. I've had many of their dishes but my faves are definitely the Green Curry and the Pad Kee Mao. The portion sizes are very generous with the exception of the small rice with the curries. I always have to order an additional side of rice with but it's not something that breaks the piggy bank. I've never dined in since I live in walking distance but I've never had any issues with their take-away. I give them 4 stars because I've never had the full dining experience with them but their food is great!! read more

An excellent spot to grab lunch! I enjoy getting their Early Bird special, where you can get an appetizer, main dish, and drink for 14.95 (great for the date I'm working late, as I get two meals in one!) I've also had their chicken pad Thai, ground chicken Thai basil, steamed and fried dumplings, and everything is seasoned to perfection. It has just the right amount of heat and is very authentic. I've popped during the busy lunch hour and I've never waited more than 10 minutes to receive my order. They do have a $15 minimum for cards or you'll get a dollar surcharge. Their authentic dishes are lined up in trays as the meal of the day where you pick and choose which dish catches your eye. They also have large rice steamers with white and brown rice options. I haven't stopped in here in a couple of years, and since I was craving thai, I stopped in. Today, they had options of tofu Thai basil, ground chicken Thai basil, Udon noodles, fried rice, and a couple other options. I noticed there was a minimum purchase of $15 so I ordered the combo which consists of three sides. I then ordered the Udon noodles, ground chicken basil, and brown rice. Since that still didn't add up to $15 I grabbed a drink and added two spring rolls. They then charge a $1 processing fee for whatever reason so I paid a lot more than I expected to all because I didn't have cash on me. Next time I am in the mood for Thai I'll make sure I have cash on me. There is typically a long line, but today there was only two other people in front of me which wasn't bad. I was in and out. It arrived pretty fast, which was nice, but the Thai iced tea had spilled EVERYWHERE in the bag. It soaked all of the food containers. The delivery person saw this, but was going to hand it to us without saying anything. Luckily, my friend saw him nervously glance in the bag and took a look herself before he ran. I've given them 3 stars because they gave us a full refund (not without a bit of unnecessary sass though). Regardless, the Pad Thai was a bit dry, and the Pad See Ew probably couldn't have gone without the extra peanut sauce.
