Stopped by this place and was so impressed. The menu is very big with a mix of Thai, Chinese, and Japanese options. Everything came very fast, hardly had to wait for our food. You can also see the chefs cooking in the back, and everything tastes so fresh! The place was very small, with very little walking space, so definitely expect to get cozy. But it's nice to see what everyone else is ordering, since most people there seemed to be regulars, and all of the plates here look and smell really good. We got a few plates to share with the table. Starting off with the calamari appetizer, the pieces are a good size and they taste quite fresh. The pad see ew has a great mix of noodles, chicken, and vegetables. Didn't feel like there was too much of anything, everything was well balanced and tasted very good. They have a large menu of sushi options, and the scallop sushi tasted very fresh. The mango chicken has a sweet and sour taste, with bell peppers, mango slices, and rice. The teriyaki chicken and shrimp combination is a huge plate with a wonderful presentation. Very flavorful and filling. The only thing I didn't like was the Thai iced tea. I personally am a huge fan of Thai iced tea, but the presentation wasn't very appealing and the drink was way too sweet for my liking. Probably wouldn't order again. Almost 7 years later and I'm still a fan of Wasabi Thai! Their lunch special always saves me for a quick, affordable, and filling meal. My go-to order? 3 sweet potato rolls with spicy mayo + tofu pad thai. Whether it's take out or dine in, the food and service is always consistent. Yes, they're still BYOB and yes, you can redeem a free Bayonne roll with a certain purchase when dining in. The restaurant is cozy and a bit small with under 10 tables I would say. It can get busy but I've never visited when there was a line out the door. Majority of customers order for take out here. Parking is a hit or miss. HOWEVER. None of our curries were good. Both orders were from lunch combos , the portions are good amount. Looking at the menu, this may be more of a sushi place than an authentic Thai place. I'm never usually in Bayonne so chose this place on a whim when searching online - very glad I did. The service is very efficient, they made sure our water was always full, and the prices are very reasonable (which isn't always the case with sushi). Street parking wasn't hard to find either. We ordered cream cheese wontons, a spicy tuna & a California roll, and pad Thai & drunken noodles. Everything tasted so fresh and delicious, the California roll was a free bonus for spending $25 (best deal... ever?). I've never had pad Thai/drunken noodles, and this was such a great first experience I'll definitely have to come back. The drunken noodles and wontons were my favorites of the meal for sure. The pad Thai my sister got was yummy, but she ordered the spicy one so I wimped out after a few bites. The sushi was great as well, I love when they put the crunch flakes in spicy tuna rolls. Wasabi Thai, was a perfect spot to go to on a cold and windy day (well, roughly a few weeks ago it was, hehe) anyways, we were seated right away by a lovely waitress. She handed us a menu and we browsed quickly. We ordered Cream Cheese Ragoon for starters. As for sushi... oof Spicy Shrimp Sushi, Shrimp Tempura, and Spicy Salmon (I know too many 's', haha, but it was worth it)! And of course... Ramen! The red curry was pretty bland and did not have any spice to it despite having a chili pepper notation on the menu. I ordered shrimp once and it was perfectly cleaned, I always check shrimp when ordering out and this is one of the only places I can confidently order shrimp from without worry that it's not cleaned properly. This is a Chinese food restaurant disguised as Thai Japanese fusion. I ordered the basil noodles and what I got both looked like and tasted like Chinese lo mein (2.5 star worthy). They were basically greasy noodles with soy sauce and veggies. I also had the beef fried rice which was just OK (2 star worthy). Take a look at the pictures of my dishes and you can see that the beef was also American Chinese style and barely looks fried. The taste of every dish was 100% American Chinese takeout style, but with half the flavor! I've also had the drunken noodles and the pad Thai at a prior visit, and they were both just OK. I've had great Thai food at other restaurants and the food here doesn't even come close, so I'm not really sure how it's a 4.5 star spot. So given the price of $9+ for these dishes, I'd rather spend half that at an actual Chinese takeout restaurant and get better taste. If they're sushi is as good as reviews say, maybe I'll try that some day, but I've given up on their Thai dishes. Set your expectations correctly and get your mouth ready for Chinese food here. If you are expecting Thai, you may be dissapointed. Overall, for the high price relative to the food taste and quality, I give this CHINESE restaurant 2 stars. read more

As a Bayonne local, I order from Wasabi Thai pretty often but I finally branched out and tried a new menu item that I must review and recommend. I typically order the Drunken Noodles with tofu for my main meal but decided to go with the Green Curry this time. I requested the Green Curry with Tofu and it also came with mixed veggies in a creamy basil curry. The veggies were broccoli, bamboo shoots, carrots, onions & it also came with a side of white rice. The curry was DELICIOUS, the vegetables were perfectly cooked and had a ton of flavor! I was also feeling a little under the weather due to allergies, but this curry was so comforting and filling. Would HIGHLY recommend if you're looking for a good curry. Now I want to try out the other curries available to find out which one if my favorite, haha! I also ordered a side of Sweet Potato & Mango Cucumber sushi rolls since they're always a great addition and reliable menu options. We recently saw that Wasabi Thai reopened for business and wanted to celebrate by ordering sushi from here. Since it was a weekend, they were very busy with orders and probably short-staffed. They have installed a new pickup window for takeout only and even installed their credit card machine in the window so that you can just dip your card in. I liked the convenience, although it was a bit hard to find parking in the area. We ordered the Maki Platter and a few Classic Rolls. Their basic rolls are really well priced around $4-6 each, but the specialty rolls are more like $10-15 range. I think the sushi is good enough here. read more

I thought the sauce was a bit on the sweet side and would've skipped this if I had known. They had no thai iced coffee but iced tea which I declined. Green tea was refilled but cost about $2. I really expected to like this place and drove about 30 minutes from Montclair just based on the 4 stars I saw and the price. This was a mistake. I should have read the reviews and looked at photos of the food. Spicy Salmon Roll- Contained a lot of stuff but very little salmon. I'm not exactly a sushi expert. I typically buy mine from Whole Foods. But even the grocery sushi roll is better than this stuff. You get a hunk of fish you can see and a lot less fluff. Calamari- You know when you eat fried food and it doesn't make you sick but makes you depressed? Imagine I'm in my car facing another 30 minute drive back home, was deflated by the fish-less sushi so I reach for the calamari because now I'm super hungry. Mistake. Not sure what they fried the calamari in but the taste was off and very greasy. Pad Thai- I arrived home tired and disappointed. I tasted the calamari but immediately put it in the fridge and will probably throw it out. I'm mad I wasted time and money. I'm a school teacher. I could have had two packages of salmon rolls from Whole Foods for the same price. Locally sourced. Fresh. Filling. And no GMOs. Never again. read more

Great local spot that used to be Sweet Chili. The spot has been updated and looks much better. Service is good, and everyone is friendly. The calamari appetizer is delicious with a sweet & spicy dipping sauce. My husband and I split an order, and then ordered our dinners. I had yellow curry with chicken, and he had red curry. Both were delicious. We're looking forward to returning and ordering other dishes off of the menu. My only disappointment is that they no longer have the Choo Chee duck. Now the duck is in a regular brown sauce and not spicy. All in all this is a great little spot in Bayonne with good take-out. Give them a try. read more

Absolutely disgusted by my dinner takeout order here tonight. The shrimp tom yum soup was not only overly sweet, it had exactly three mangled shrimps with bits of soggy FRIED COATING on them. I actually gagged - it was clear that they threw in tempura shrimp from some other customer's leftovers, and tried to hastily scrape off the fried parts. It also didn't come with rice, which is strange as restaurants usually serve tom yum soup with rice. The pad see you I ordered was also drenched in sugar, as their noodles always seem to be. Everything went into the trash within minutes. Fifty bucks instantly down the drain UGHHHHHH. Too bad, as this is one of the only Asian food options in Bayonne, which is why I guess they're getting the 4+ ratings.
