I'm all about superior customer service, which is super important to making sure people keep coming back to your business. The store was neat and clean and the stock that was there (some stock was missing) was nicely arranged and organized. I appreciate this SO much! That said, the missing two stars was for a couple of reasons: There were no buggies in the corral. At first I thought customers had then all until I looked back in the parking lot and saw a few and empty parking spots. I walked back in and stumbled on an abandoned buggie (yay!). I had to look around to make sure I wasn't stealing it from someone else. The other reason was that the check-out line was so long, it was back into the aisles. The manager didn't call for an additional cashier. The two guys ahead of me asked for more bottled water than what was on the shelves. I could feel the line building behind me. I had five or six items and the line took me a good 10 minutes to get through. Ridiculous. On a side note, I'm still kind of on the fence about the 99 Cents store, now that they've also raised their prices on many of their items. I don't know the timing of this increase in relation to Dollar Tree's price hike. Regardless, many of the items chosen to raise the price don't make sense, i.e. canned food, condiments, etc. because these items cost less at a regular grocery store, especially when they're on sale and/or in combination with coupons. Some items seem to be overpriced at the same time. It's a bit confusing. Yes, I realize the individual store has no control over these decisions, which is the reason I don't take stars off for corporate decisions. I don't think I'll stop going; they have some items that the price just can't be beat, like for Asian mushrooms, but I don't think I'll spend as much as I used to spend. read more

I come here once a week for the past 6 months and the staff is always so helpful and polite! It's a fantastic store. Although not everything is 99 cents anymore, you're still getting the best deal. My only complaint is not enough registers are open. I understand, it's understaffed at times. read more

Though I appreciate this chain of 99 cent stores and the value they offer, I would have to say that this store is one of the worst in customer service. 1. They always charge CRV fees on beverages that aren't chargeable. containers. The bottle is clearly labeled if it is a chargeable for recycling fees. If its doesn't have a CRV indicator, they they are not suppose to charge that .05 or .10 cent fee. 2. On more then one occasion, they have been known to overcharge, even when you inform them of the discrepancy and prove it to them. I took a picture of the product and of the price lable, since it was cheaper the their usual .99 cent charge. The cashier argued with me and refused to honor their advertised price. See photo. 3. When standing in a long line, another cashier opened a lane. Instead of taking the next person in line, who hand obviously been waiting longer, she asked to take the last person in line to her newly opened registered. This location is clean and located in a plaza with quite a bit of other businesses that could eliminate ones need to drive around San Diego to handle business. They have a very nice selection of items as well. I've been to some 99 Cents Only Stores with terrible selections and I'm glad to say this isn't one of them. I've been able to find quite a lot of home good related items here and the quality is great too. I'd say the only really major downside is that it is a really busy location. I've rarely come here and didn't have to wait in a lengthy line to checkout. They only usually have 2-3 employees working registers at a time so I definitely feel the Walmart vibes there but for the amount of money I save on groceries and stuff by stopping here first to see what they have is worth it especially now with inflation and gas on a steady quick rise. read more

When on a budget, 99C stores are great! I come here for party supplies and found plenty at a great price, batteries, bleach, coffee cups and plates for work. They sell produce and frozen foods as well, very convenient. Not everything they sell is good but I have found some bargains in brand names in some items. The days I been here the store is clean and organize, there are shopping carts and baskets but I haven't use them yet. In/out of the store and parking is easy very early am or late in the evening. read more

I absolutely loved this location. It was bigger than most 99 cent stores I have been to. We came here to pick up drinks and some pool stuff for the hotel. We have snacks. This place has more drink selection. So many items in here. They carry produce as well. I love finding cool stuff for cheap, and saving money. I spend a lot when I go out to eat. Plenty of parking up front. It wasn't crazy busy on a Sunday morning as most 99 cent stores are. There's restrooms here which is a plus when my daughter or myself need to use a restroom. Surprisingly the restrooms were clean. I would come back and pick up snacks and drinks from here if we are ever in the area. read more

Maybe it was because it was early, maybe the sun was shining a little brighter, maybe we were just out of the normal hood....whatever it was it made the experience at a regular old 99 cents store pretty freaking awesome! The girl and I wanted to kill a little time before watching the boy play soccer. We grabbed a coffee and saw this little gem on our way back to the field. I needed to pop in for a big gift bag. Yeah just a gift bag, 40 dollars later we had to drag ourselves out or we would have missed the boys game. The aisles were clean and organized, color coordinated items made the store very pleasing to the eye. I ended up finding so much more than a large gift bag, toys, kitchen items, candy and my personal favorite santa pants that hold wine bottles. This is a great store....nsme brand items well within the date codes..some have complained about the store being dirty, well at days end its been used and abused......sure it's going to look bad. I shop when they open at 8am and its perfect, clean and well stocked, the employees do a great job overnight making it presentable. I can purchase Hunt's catsup 24 oz for 99 cents with long lasting date cides, a real bargain for a catsup eater.!!!!! The store has weekly name brand items. Don't expect to find the same items the next day on popular items, they sell quick.....buy enough. It really is a hit and miss but that's the fun of it. The thrill of the HUNT!! They have a very hugh candy section the entire length of the store....popular name brand candy bar's . This candy section is always stocked with every brand of candy you want all the time!! I was concerned about door dings.....I never once considered runaway carts. Seriously when I returned a high speed cart had struck my right rear quarter panel, and skidded down the right side of my new car, I guess some careless customer hadn't returned the empty cart to the cart corral and it must of started rolling at the top of the parking lot and struck my car at what ever speed a empty cart can travel....I'm not kidding the cost of the repair was $ 890.00, I had several estimates and that was the cheapest out of three. The cart dented and scratched my car more then anybody including myself could image , I found the cart on it's side turned over next to the car, Grrrrrrrrrr......that 890 bucks would of purchased a lot of ketchup and candy. Bring me old fond memories... the first time I went to any 99cents only store were back in year 2000. Then the second and the third trip were in July 2005 and October 2005 respectively. Hence this past summer of July 2008 I made yet another stop. Each 99 cents store have different variety of stuffs you can purchase at a bargain. Cant help it if its only 99 cents per item. This is one of my favorite stores, the employees are always so friendly and always welling to help. Recently I had lost my phone while I was at the register, I was panicking and started to cry. The manager was very concerned and came right away to help. She looked at the cameras and saw that I dropped my phone in one of my bags. She didn't let me leave the store until I was completely calm and found my phone. God bless that young lady that helped me out. This place has some pretty cool bargains! Their selection is nothing like the la mesa location, but it's still pretty good. I stopped by today for some birthday supplies and saw some really cool stuff. I saw a really small jar of coconut oil, for just $1! I also ran into some ghirardelli dark chocolate wafers! That stuff is usually $7 elsewhere! Just $1 here. They also had some really good Tupperware ranging from $1-$3. The lines are longgggg. So be prepared to wait. read more

Worst customer service ever! Tried to return a $10 item because it was broken. Bought it for my son for Christmas and had to deal with the disappointment of the item being broken. When I do make it into do the return they only offer nine days to return anything. The cashier thought it was quite comical that I was upset over their impossible return policy. Please she giggled and rolled her eyes as her manager watched. Thanks for the horrible customer service Sama.... shame on you manager Jim for doing nothing. 1 star becausr this store is great I find everything I want and it is my local store and shop there all of the time but I was seriously very dissapointed on their customer service today. I have to say this is the first time I have came across and employee so rude. I do at least a quarter of my grocery shopping here, which helps me out BUDGET WISE tremendously. And I don't think I am sacrificing quality. They have quality organics regularly if you look. And much of the stuff is made/grown in U. S. This is in what was a stand alone grocery store, so there is a big selection. Their 99 cents plus stuff is still a good deal and some of it even gift quality. They have some pretty scarves nice enough to decorate with. Their electronics and garden supplies are surprisingly good quality. And often I can find all my drug store type items here too; check the expirations-some are close but never expired. The bathroom can be pretty gross and stinky, and the service sometimes apathetic, clueless, but overall it's worth it for what I can find and save. read more

What can I say? It's a 99cents store... there ARE some fantastic deals (especially on wrapping paper & printed boxes, stocking stuffers, etc., at Christmas)... but frankly I call it the "$100 Store." That's about what I end up spending every time I go ("oh, this looks neat, do I need it? No. But what the heck it's only .99 cents..." My bad). It doesn't have the great produce at this location like the one in Encinitas (with a parking lot filled with Mercedes & Lexus cars, haha)... but it is clean, the staff is friendly and helpful and there are ALWAYS great deals on name brands. Just leave your credit or debit card at home and take only as much cash as you are willing to spend. :) Fun & helpful store.... Luckily no bottles are leaking, just rolling to anywhere into parking space. We helped him collecting those bottles. Store is quite big, parking space is big as well. Possibly the worst shopping experience I have ever encountered. Let me start with the coughing, spitting Security Guard greeting me at the door trying to recover to say hello I kept on with my purpose to scan the store and co.e back tomorrow when they open.... I understand that store hours exist for a reason but the excessive, rude, LOUD.... no need to yell over your store loud speaker...your 15 minute, 10 minute, less than 5 minute, 3 minute warning followed by the Security Guard reminding me of 3 minute warning that just blasted my ear. This store has an AMAZING and very different selection than all the other 99 cent only stores.. They also have a fresh produce and food selection. My only complaint is.. why do the cashiers not know the return/exchange policy?? They looked at me like I was speaking a foreign language when I asked them. They literally said "What does that mean?" when I asked them what the policy was for returning or exchanging an item. Seriously?
