This is a massive store, very organized but not so clean, especially around veggies and fruits section. The aisles are smaller around that section too. I found a whole lot of variety of green vegetables there. Got three different kind. Prices were good, most of them were by weight. The store had many other sections like seafood, meat, bakery, grocery items, noodles, snacks, drinks and Asian specialty food items. They also had the dim sum and hot food section. A lot of the items were already packed in foil boxes, just for $3 each. I got few of them. The shau mai, red bean cake and dumplings were excellent. We ate them for breakfast next morning. So grateful for this 99 Ranch location, because we come at least 1-2 times a month. The store is well stocked and we've almost always found the Chinese condiments and ingredients we look for. The produce isn't as fresh as what you'd find in Chinatown or Flushing, I think because the turnover of produce isn't as high here. But they're still good quality so we buy them. Our absolute favorite though is the food court, we really like buying the two dishes + a side (I think $11 of $12) of three dishes + a side. If you come during the day around lunchtime, there are a lot of fresh, delicious options. By dinner time the options aren't as fresh or as many, but they still all taste delicious. It ends up being better than Chinese takeout in our opinion so we make the trek here just to go to the food court. Plenty of spots in the free parking lot out front. Very convenient. read more

BEWARE ROTTEN MEAT!! NO REMORSE!! I bought chicken at 99 each well before the expiration date marked on the package. When I got home, the meat was rotten. However, when I returned the meat and explained my displeasure at being sold spoiled chicken, I was met with a cold reception. They were not apologetic. They simply said they would issue a refund. The customer service lady practically had me begging just to get a manager. She refused to let me speak to anyone. When a manager eventually came, they smelled the rancid chicken, threw it to the side, and made a "eww" remark, clearly realizing how bad it was. When I explained that they should at least compensate me for my Uber ride because I don't live close and had to travel in the rain just to return the meat, the manager was dismissive and said they couldn't do that. They didn't even offer an apology, voucher, or gift certificate for the inconvenience. No courtesy. No remorse. I have been shopping there weekly for over three years and have spent hundreds of dollars consistently in groceries, produce and the food court. Im a regular to the point the ladies in the back are always happy to see me and they will say hello or play with my toddler. I'm honestly appalled by the service I received with their management staff, but more importantly horrified that they would put spoiled meat on the shelf despite the health dangers, with no accountability. It has a decent sized parking lot and is easily accessed off of Grand St. This is a huge Asian market with an extensive selection for all types of Asian food. The produce section is huge with all types of Asian produce. Probably the best department in the store. They also have a large butcher department and a seafood department that has frozen and a lot of fresh and live seafood selections. There are a couple restaurants located within the market as well as a bubble tea store which is always busy. There is a food court if you want to eat in. Overall, most of the groceries are overpriced compared to what you could get in Flushing. However, this is conveniently in Jersey City which is why I go here. We got items like mangoes, snacks, dumplings and so on. Overall the quality is good and as expected but the prices were higher. Service (3/5): Not particularly friendly service and they mostly try to get you rung up fast. Sometimes it is difficult to ask questions about where items are and get a good answer. Funny. I'd written a review of this store weeks ago, giving them 3.5 stars with every expectation they'd improve. Just had my 3rd visit today, and improve they did. Originally, I did not see much of an advantage for choosing them over HMart Jericho, other than the proximity (About half as far). Then, yesterday, I saw a photo of a Chinatown roast duck option in their prepared foods area. Today I checked it out, and what they are providing is an automatic five star situation. In the past, to get duck like this, I had to go to Queens. A few suburban Chinese food places had duck on their menu, but you suspected it was not their specialty, and if you ordered it you knew the whole story. If there are not ducks hanging in formation, it just isn't it. 99 Ranch has just saved me 20 miles to get the food I crave. My only quibble is that the options were whole duck or half. A quarter would have done it for me, but the leftovers won't last long. Down the counter from the duck is a very appealing dim sum section - my wife raved about the sesame bean paste ball, and I cheated on my diet with a Chinese donut. Dim sum is priced at 3 items for $4.50. I'd say HMart is 60+ per cent Asian, with the rest being a regular supermarket. 99 Ranch is more like 80%, and that is fine with me. Their seafood department is obviously an important thing for them, and we've tried their salmon filet, giving it high ratings. This time I found the Chinese eggplant, which had eluded me before. We'd still like to see frozen seaweed dumplings, but otherwise, this store is a game changer, and they will be seeing lots of us. read more

New Jersey always has a larger selection of Asian markets and items. Loved all the fresh ingredients and huge varieties of dried goods and snacks. My friend and I were looking for goods you don't typically get in a small traditional Asian supermarket: Singaporean, Vietnamese, Japanese, Korean and Filipino. This place had a lot to choose from and temptation often got the best of us as we grabbed based on impulse buy. I even found my beloved Ube macapuno ice cream, durian mochi and Malaysian white coffees here. But like many human beings, you can only eat so much in a 2 week radius before your next grocery run. They also have a section for dine-in food like ramen, a bakery, boba shop (Coco), and a room for claw machines. Giving this a review after going to this supermarket for 4 years now and seeing a few things change that are worth mentioning: 1. This is still the best Asian supermarket. It's clean, well organized, and offers a large variety of Asian groceries. 2. The produce section is very good, normally fresh, and most prices are reasonable. It's ironic though that common American produce here tends to be pricier than if you buy it in a normal supermarket. 3. There's only one aisle that sells some American staple foods, but the prices are jacked up. So you would be better off going to a regular supermarket for those. 4. They used to offer great sales on various items and frozen foods, but not anymore. anything that is on sale now is often not popular and usually not worth buying. 5. They predominantly have Chinese foods. With limited selections of Korean, Japanese, and Thai foods among a few other Asian offerings. 6. The seafood section has gone downhill. The prices are OK, and that dreaded chemical shy smell is light but present. They have some live seafood available like lobster and crabs, but you will often find old fish in the bins. So keep a close eye on your selections. 7. The bakery is just plain bad. While it has a lot of enticing-looking pastries at reasonable prices, they are often old and flavorless. Looks can be deceiving, just steer away. 8. The Ramen Green shop is a Chinese knock-off of the old Japanese Kitikana Ramen stall that was originally there. While the menu is a mirror image, the taste is not. If you compare both, you would find the ramen, Choshu, and karage are not as flavorful. It's not bad, it's just not touching the original. 9. The customer service department is great and fast. They didn't give me a hard time when I had a return. Overall, I still like Ranch 99 a lot, but not as much as before. It's still the best Asian market in the area, but at this point, if an H-Mart or Mistuwa like restaurant pops up, they could easily take the crown. read more

Prices are a little bit higher than Asian markets in Brooklyn/Queens, but it's the closest Asian market to Hoboken/Jersey City. You do get a larger selection of goods here though. Aside from Chinese products, you'll find some Japanese products, and a pretty big selection of Filipino products. For every $20 you spend, you get a $1 coupon to use at the food court. The food court isn't bad if you want a quick lunch. They have dim sum, Chinese BBQ, self serve buffet ($8.99 per box), ramen, jianbing, bubble tea, and a Chinese bakery. If I had the option, I'd still pick the markets in Brooklyn over 99 Ranch because it's cheaper. But I'll still come here just because it's more conveniently located to where I live. read more

Groceries? Trader Joe's and Whole Foods. Not exclusively, but mostly. Despite being no more than 4 minutes down the road from my apartment, I never gave The Ranch the time of day. I never looked it up, never asked questions, and never went in. Until one day, not too long ago, where pandemic-fueled boredom and a desire to get out of the apartment brought me here to satiate a growing curiosity. Well, I should have visited a lot sooner. While the aisles were filled with so many things I never knew existed (and don't quite know what do with) I was blown away by the meat and produce. Carrots the size of my arm, fruits I wouldn't be able to find anywhere else, beef sliced so thin I could almost see through it, and a selection of fresh seafood that bests any grocery store I've ever been to. My first visit here sparked an appetite for homemade bibimbap, and every ingredient necessary was found with ease, including a gigantic tub of gochujang. Finding normal sizes of things was probably the hardest part, but at this point I now have enough gochujang for 20 more dinners and enough fish sauce to last a year. Much like Mitsuwa in Edgewater, there is also a section for premade food, and noodle bowls / ramen you can get to stay or to go. While I won't be totally replacing TJs or Whole Foods, the fresh produce, meat, and seafood are more than enough to keep me coming back. I'll also be back for more fish sauce, when I need it sometime in 2023. read more

Their produce is great and they have the best selection of fruits/vegetables/products you wont find in regular supermarkets. It's huge, it's clean, and the prices are normal. My only issues are: 1. There are typical vegetable and seafood sections. The meat section has my favorite kind of spare ribs that I would only be able to find in Chinese supermarket. And then there are aisles full of Chinese dried goods and sauces. Loved the bakery and fast food sections as well. Decided to grab some dumplings to go. Didn't get to try the Coco bubble tea since there was a long time. But you know that just meant that it's good and I would have to try it next time. There is a sit-in area if you want to have a quick bite. Ample free parking in front. Restrooms are clean. 99 Ranch is one of several Asian markets in this general area and it quickly became a favorite place of mine to shop last year. When lockdown began, I had to limit my outings so it has been several months since I visited 99 Ranch. 99 Ranch is an Asian market that focuses primarily on East Asian foods, but there are some other small sections with selections such as Indian foods. When you enter you are immediately hit with sensory overload. Right beyond the cashiers are giant boxes and crates of impulse items (think everything from cookies to popcorn to candy and more). To the left is a high end cosmetics shop and to the right is a line of restaurants and a bakery. The store itself is aisle after aisle of Asian foods. Whether it's sauces, noodles, snacks, frozen goods or desserts odds are you will find what you are looking for. I have rarely come here for an ingredient for my Asian dishes and not found it! The restaurants off to the side include a bubble tea stand, two street food style stands and a bakery. Beyond that is a Chinese food station with a steam table buffet and traditional roasted meats. That said, during the lockdown period the meats are no longer hanging behind a window and the buffet no longer has food in the trays. Instead you have to order what you want at the cashier and they will bring it out to you (if they have it at all). All the way on the other side of the market is a fantastic produce section. I have found all my fave veggies including pea shoots, water spinach and mustard greens. Pre-pandemic the vegetables would be loose for you to bag and purchase in amounts of your choosing. Now however all the vegetables are pre-bagged in predetermined amounts (ex: one pound). Given the situation we all are living in 2020, I think this is for the best. I needed ingredients to make a vegetarian dish we always have during the New Year and 99 Ranch was the closest Asian supermarket. 99 Ranch had everything that I needed and more - their New Year section was pretty well stocked and helped me decorate my apartment for the holiday. Their drinks section is VERY expansive - I found a lot of Hawaiian Sun favors that I've never seen before, and I've visited Hawaii 4 times! We brought some buns from their bakery section and they were all pretty good. I liked that it was buy two get one free! They also have a roast pork, duck, BBQ pig section, but we already had dinner plans that day so I didn't get any. Great asian grocery option in the neighborhood. I shopped here before COVID and definitely have been here more often since COVID. They do limit the amount of people inside the store at a time nowadays. Therefore, depends on when you go, you may have to wait outside for a few minutes. Lines usually move fairly quickly though. Being a chinese store, there are more chinese products. But there's still a healthy amount of Korean, Filipino, and even hispanic ingredients/sauces/stuff. There is free parking in the lot so if you're driving there should be plenty of parking. read more

Asian based store so you can get a pot of things that are from Asian countries. Even Asian potato chips. The produce section has a wonderful array of vegetables and fruits. Essential teas and Asian desserts. Sauces and noodles to make a wonderful Asian cuisine. The star of this supermarket for me is the seafood department. Unbelievable selection of fish. Fresh and at good prices. I get my salmon here all the time. It's always so delicious. The butcher is also one of my favorites as well. I love the pork chops and pork belly here. I got 99 problems, and 98 of them are parking in this insane parking lot. Definitely one of the most challenging and nightmarish parking lots in all of New Jersey. Yes I know that drivers can be shady here and it's every driver for themselves. But the way they zip into the little tiny spots and steal them from each other, and the complete lack of spots throughout the day, is maddening. And then don't get me started on the long long walk from your car to the store and back. Some people will literally not give a crap if they nearly mow you down. Other than the parking lot, the store itself is pretty awesome. They have a little bit of everything and I really appreciate it. They have a really cool food court to with four or five different restaurants, and a nice Bakery and a Coco franchise. Unfortunately unlike most Cocos, that particular location is not my favourite because they use pre-made milk teas, but hopefully that will change in the future. read more

I was very excited that there was a Chinese supermarket in Jersey City. This place definitely offered a variety of Chinese product but with a higher price than the supermarkets in Chinatown or Flushing. The bakery and hot food bar offered a good selection of items. They were definitely cheap. For $7, we got three roasted meat items (roasted pork, BBQ pork and pork tongue) with rice and vegetables. Both of us felt full after. It's the only option Asians have in a 10-mile radius. I've been coming here for years. There is variety in groceries (produce in particular) but it's hit-or-miss on how fresh or how rotten they are. As others have noted, it's not surprising to find expired goods here. I want to voice a particularly disappointing visit I had over this weekend. I went to the fish section and ordered one of the "Live Tilapia." I put this in quotes because after returning home and making said fish in a dish, I realized what the fish cleaner gave me is likely an already-frozen tilapia this dude pulled out of the freezer. As anyone who's been here knows, the workers clean the fish behind an unviewable section of sinks and shelving. You can't tell what they're doing to the fish nor if they're actually working on the fish you selected. I say my fish was likely frozen because when I took it out of the fridge, the fish was rock hard. Unless fish experience rigor mortis when killed, I have no other explanation for how a "Live Tilapia" would all of a sudden be rock hard throughout. Even after I steamed this fish, the middle section was hardened and clearly not fresh nor tender. Deeply disappointing and honestly this is the kind of low-grade cheap tactics I expect from some 3rd world vendor halfway around the world. Not my local 99 Ranch. Such a joke. read more
