    Bird inside of 99 Ranch
    Niki H.

Went here with the missus before the great blizzard of '26. There was a bird inside the store so me and the missus got some boba while we stood in line with frozen takoyaki and karaage while we watched it. Very adorable and cute, 10/10 would come again. I hope the bird didn't shit on anyone though.

Food (3/5): There is a solid selection of Asian snacks, food items, and other goods. Additionally, there are several restaurants inside the building and nearby with decent offerings. Overall, most of the groceries are overpriced compared to what you could get in Flushing. However, this is conveniently in Jersey City which is why I go here. We got items like mangoes, snacks, dumplings and so on. Overall the quality is good and as expected but the prices were higher. Service (3/5): Not particularly friendly service and they mostly try to get you rung up fast. Sometimes it is difficult to ask questions about where items are and get a good answer. Ambiance (3/5): Reasonably spacious asian grocery store. It's mostly clean but there could be improvements. Since it's the only major Asian store offering in the Jersey City area, there isn't really any other convenient option around.

It's a good place to get Asian groceries, but be careful about the the expiry date. Today I grabbed some snacks and only when I got home I realized it's two months past expiration date. They should definitely be more attentive about the shelf inventory. Service is nonexistent - tried calling them but no one answered.

I love this supermarket. Its filled with Asian items and everything congregated into a nice and spacious spot. I loved that there are some food stores inside like bakeries, fast food stands, and other. I loved the experience. It wasn't crowded and it offered large variety of asian choices, condiments, meat, veggies, and other. Definitely a wonderful one-stop place to shop for anything Asian : )

Staffs are friendly. There's a variety of Asian food however, it is a bit more pricier than NYC Chinatown. The store is big with outside an parking lot.

Funny. I'd written a review of this store weeks ago, giving them 3.5 stars with every expectation they'd improve. Just had my 3rd visit today, and improve they did. Originally, I did not see much of an advantage for choosing them over HMart Jericho, other than the proximity (About half as far). Then, yesterday, I saw a photo of a Chinatown roast duck option in their prepared foods area. Today I checked it out, and what they are providing is an automatic five star situation. In the past, to get duck like this, I had to go to Queens. A few suburban Chinese food places had duck on their menu, but you suspected it was not their specialty, and if you ordered it you knew the whole story. If there are not ducks hanging in formation, it just isn't it. 99 Ranch has just saved me 20 miles to get the food I crave. My only quibble is that the options were whole duck or half. A quarter would have done it for me, but the leftovers won't last long. Down the counter from the duck is a very appealing dim sum section - my wife raved about the sesame bean paste ball, and I cheated on my diet with a Chinese donut. Dim sum is priced at 3 items for $4.50. I'd say HMart is 60+ per cent Asian, with the rest being a regular supermarket. 99 Ranch is more like 80%, and that is fine with me. Their seafood department is obviously an important thing for them, and we've tried their salmon filet, giving it high ratings. This time I found the Chinese eggplant, which had eluded me before. We'd still like to see frozen seaweed dumplings, but otherwise, this store is a game changer, and they will be seeing lots of us.

I love ranch 99!! The best place to get your Chinese groceries!! I also love going to the food court to get their roast duck or roast pork!! So good!

New Jersey always has a larger selection of Asian markets and items. Loved all the fresh ingredients and huge varieties of dried goods and snacks. My friend and I were looking for goods you don't typically get in a small traditional Asian supermarket: Singaporean, Vietnamese, Japanese, Korean and Filipino. This place had a lot to choose from and temptation often got the best of us as we grabbed based on impulse buy. I even found my beloved Ube macapuno ice cream, durian mochi and Malaysian white coffees here. But like many human beings, you can only eat so much in a 2 week radius before your next grocery run. Next time I'll be prepared and to make room for those rare meat cuts you can only get here that's suitable for barbecues. Nom nom.

    Dim sum - 3 pieces for $2.90

Prices are a little bit higher than Asian markets in Brooklyn/Queens, but it's the closest Asian market to Hoboken/Jersey City. You do get a larger selection of goods here though. Aside from Chinese products, you'll find some Japanese products, and a pretty big selection of Filipino products. For every $20 you spend, you get a $1 coupon to use at the food court. The food court isn't bad if you want a quick lunch. They have dim sum, Chinese BBQ, self serve buffet ($8.99 per box), ramen, jianbing, bubble tea, and a Chinese bakery. If I had the option, I'd still pick the markets in Brooklyn over 99 Ranch because it's cheaper. But I'll still come here just because it's more conveniently located to where I live.

Is the bakery still selling whole cakes? Or is it slice by slice?

They sell whole cakes, but beware, the cakes look far better than they taste. They pastries are often old or flavorless. So, don't buy a cake there unless you have tasted a slice of it first.

Do they sell flavored soju bottles?

No, I justed checked the aisles and they don't sell alcoholic beverages.

Is this primarily Asian grocery products or would I be able to buy American staples too (cereal, frozen dinners, bread, snacks, etc.)?

It is primarily Asian food there. They do have a small selection of American staples like milk, and vegetables, and snacks. But they are normally more expensive than it would find at a regular American supermarket.

Does anyone know if they're open during the quarantine?

    Yes. Open till 5pm

If you walk close enough to it, you can smell the loveliness of fried or grilled fish, and if you peek inside there's usually one woman at the helm, cooking and frying and grilling fish like she loves it, but a 7 day rest she'd love even more. I smile at her with my eyes and I'm very patient with whatever speed she makes my food. The food prices are reasonable, and whatever you think you're gonna get for the money you've paid is nowhere near the amount of food you get. No matter how many times I've ordered from them, I still am hella surprised when its presented to me. Fried with just the right amount of crunch, no extra oil, the fish mounted on top of a mountain of seasoned fries, which are also great tasting and all the items fried have their individual taste, (cuz Ugh I hate it when everything in one meal that's fried tastes like the oil its fried in). Last time I went, I ordered flounder, & she said she didn't have any, but had basa. When I asked for scallops, she said they were frozen & gave a lil Mama Frown, so I got calamari instead. WONDERFUL. (see photos) Now... I dunno what the real name of this spot is, but the receipt says "The Height Fish Market" Meh, doesn't matter, I know it as the only spot for great seafood. Go git it.

I went to buy in-shell scallops and he said to "pick the heaviest ones, they have more meat" but what he really means is they're packed with sand. Funny enough, he didn't try giving me this advice the next time I went to buy and looked in the crack to see if they're full of sand.
