I had bought an item here that had rang up wrong and the lady that was working would not give me it at the correct price. She was trying to tell me it was for a vegan version when I had gotten a vegan version when it was actually a vegan one that I was buying. The store the store had many empty shelves, especially in the frozen section. With many other good Asian supermarkets in town, these people should really step up their game. I was very excited & happy when 99 Ranch first arrived here! It's nice to see it on the East Coast ;) LARGE Chinese supermarket with all the goodies! They keep it pretty clean here, considering most Chinese supermarkets aren't kept well & usually tend to stink of fish lol. So I definitely do enjoy coming here to get Asian groceries, without having to pay HMart's (sometimes) absurd prices. Decently sized Asian grocery store. You can find fresh Asian vegetables and seafood. There are tanks of live stone crabs, eel, swimming tilapia, catfish, and etc. It's organized fairly well, and the nice wide isles are clean. On Tuesdays, they have a 5% discount for senior citizens. There was no crowd on a Sunday afternoon. Most people were probably having lunch. I found some Chinese Lays potato chip flavors that are not sold at the regular grocery stores. Such as Spicy hot pot, Fried crab, cucumber or Mieng Kam Krob Ros flavor. You might be able to find some at Walmart though. Got myself some milk tea, orange chocolate and royal chocolate Kit Kats. The prices are okay. I remember a normal bag of Calbee potato chips use to be less than $3 and now it's $7+. read more

What a godsend...a supermarket that sells fresh seafood at surprisingly decent prices, AND will even clean and fry it for you right there at no extra charge! These kinds of places exist all over East Asia and in areas with high Asian populations like the Bay Area, Houston, etc. but never found one in New England before...totally ecstatic, as someone who enjoys seafood but hates the mess and smell of cooking it at home. Wish I'd known about this place a lot earlier! Otherwise their other items are also reasonably priced, especially compared to Asian supermarkets in the northern 'burbs like Malden and Medford, let alone the nice but ritzy/pricey H-Mart chain. Love 99 Ranch! Huge selection of fresh produce, condiments, fresh bakery, frozen items, etc! The price is not cheap, even with some items go on sale from time to time. Frankly, most sales items are not that cheap, either. I try to come here during "off hours" like weekdays to avoid the crowd. I was here once the day before Thanksgiving and it was crazy packed. Another time, I was here on a Thursday. That might be their re-stock day because lots of carts inside the store to be loaded and some items were clearly missing from the shelves. That said, the checkout line always goes fast and the cashiers are efficient. I love they have student discount days and also senior discount on weekdays! They used to have plastic bags but that's no longer the case as of April 2022. Bring your own shopping bags! They have a bubble tea place connected to the store. There is also a dim sum/Chinese restaurant right next door. Plenty of parking out in front. There is a light on Hancock Street before you turn into the parking lot, easy to miss though. read more

On May 31st, I went to 99 Ranch Market in Quincy, MA and purchased two types of fish, one was fresh tilapia. I placed the tilapia into a cooler with ice in my car to bring it home, when I got home I was met with a big surprise. When I opened the cooler and brought out the tilapia, I was attacked by an extreme odor of rotten fish, it did not look like the fish I saw when I purchased it. Rotten fish! The place is still very clean, spacious and brightly lit. Wished they had more selection. Their prices are a bit on the high side, but I still prefer 99 Ranch over the place down a block over. Not too bad first experience on their grand opening day!! The place is big with a lot of sections, right next to C Mart, which is going to be interesting from a business perspective. It could be WOWWW to a lot of people, but for those who have been to big Chinese supermarkets like Kam Man or C Mart or HMart, this is an okay experience! I like the bakery section. They also put in a lot of effort in getting new customers (like me) to stop by: you get a jasmine rice bag with $50 or more purchase. If you buy $100, you get 2 jasmine rice bags and so on!! Usually we shop at Kam Man, but decided to try 99 Ranch as we have shopped at 99 Ranch in New Jersey, and that place in East Brunswick is the best Asian market we have been to on the East Coast. Vegetable/fruit section was superior, clean, organized, great prices. Lots of products sold by the case. Plenty of Chinese vegetables. Bakery section was nice, but no BBQ pork buns, and the roll cakes looked nice, but at about the same price as Kam Man were smaller in size. We didn't look at seafood section, but the meat section was clean and organized. The frozen section was fine. Can, dry goods and household products were fine, but less variety than Kam Man. Looks like plans to expand the bakery area, hopefully a BBQ section. Coco drinks attached to 99 Ranch, offering typical teas and boba drinks. read more

The moment you walk in, you see vegetables and ladies behind each section bagging up portions of vegetables to be displayed so you know that everything's fresh and they're not cheating you like some markets do (where they hide the less-fresh pieces in the middle). There's a small section that I think is sushi-fish, but I'm not sure - it's priced a bite higher than the other salmon portions though. I really LOVED buying a jackfruit every week when it was in season! It was only $1.19/lb! There are plenty of snacks, even brown sugar boba ice cream, tons of different sliced meat for grilling or hot pot, and there are a few aisles dedicated to non-food or non-Asian food items as well! I have been shopping at this grocery store since the beginning of the statewide shutdown. I would like to start off by saying that the inside of this grocery store is very clean. Every time I come in here I can tell that the grocery carts were hosed down. The workers are all protecting themselves and others with protective equipment and the cashiers wipe doesn't the conveyer belts with bleach every couple of minutes. The workers are friendly and always willing to help find an item or make a recommendation. One of my favorites here are the already prepared foods next to the produce section. My favorites are the barbecue fish that comes in a bowl with rice and steamed cabbage. The best part is it's under $7! What a bargain. I also really like the spring rolls and the fried sesame ball with red bean filling. The veggies here come in generous portions and are well priced and fresh. They also have a fresh fish section with great prices. I was able to fry up some fish for two people for under $8. If you need any house-ware or dish-ware this grocery store has it all. This seems like a great place to get everything at once. Just be aware that their American products are limited if that's what your looking for. I've enjoyed shopping her me and have been trying to cook several different foods like pho, stir fry's, and different types of fried fish. They also have a rewards program that works with your phone number and email and you can get your receipts sent straight to your email. I honestly prefer that. Cleanliness: Super super impressed with cleanliness of this supermarket! During the coronavirus outbreak, this is the only supermarket I've been to that provide gloves for the customers! They now upgraded the hand sanitizer dispensers to automated ones. All the check out counters are installed with glass windows for personal protection. Today, all the cashiers are wearing blue gowns and they even sanitized the whole check out area right after each customer. I can see that they are putting a lot of effort in to protect the customers and employees. Perks: They have point rewards system which you can sign up with your email and phone number at the cashier. You can get a copy of receipts sent to your phone. They also have weekly deals. Most of their items are on sale anyways. Also, I believe you get 5% off if you are a student. Overall: This place got very fresh vegetables and meat. They have employees standing in the middle of the produce section cleaning the dirts off of the vegetables and packaging them. I bought watercress from here and I didn't have to rinse it more than once before cooking because it was super clean(no sands, no dirts!). They have a lot of meat and seafood options as well. This California-based Asian grocery chain has finally made its way to Quincy! This location, which was formerly the Big Y, formerly Hannafords, is really really big. Lots of parking. Produce here is so inexpensive - broccoli is $.99/pound. Cauliflower is $1.49/pound. Lemons are usually $.39 each. Spices are also super inexpensive. Eggs are usually $.99/dozen. There is TONS of fish. Always fresh Atlantic salmon, tilapia and swai basa - all much cheaper than Stop & Shop! There's also live fish available for purchase. The best part - no fishy smell! There are various American products available for sale as well (Betty Crocker, Hood milk, Ben & Jerry's etc.). There is also 99 Ranch's Best Yet brand which is usually much more inexpensive and rivals the quality. I'm a big fan of Asian markets (especially H-Mart) and was excited to drive by and realize this was one. We had to stop in, of course. The store is nice - it looks like an old Shaw's building taken over by 99. It was clean but to be honest the smell in the fish department was so bad. Like worrisome bad. We didn't purchase any fish products due to that smell. I also felt bad for the fish in the cramped tanks. Didn't strike me as a great environment to spend their last days in. Anyway, we did buy a few items. The most interesting was banana flavored Kit Kat bites. I usually like their unique flavors and these were just okay. Very heavy on the fake banana (channeling British Bake-Off here when you know the contestant is going to hear it from the judges when they catch them using fake banana or other fruity flavoring). You could really taste it. Still, thumbs up for having something you won't find anywhere else. I wish I could say our other two purchases were good but they were far from it. The thinly sliced lamb was awful. Just tasted wrong and old even though it wasn't at expiration. The pork shanks were equally as gross. I actually thought they cooked okay and were fine to eat and felt quite sick a few hours after eating a few bites. I question how safe their meat is (especially considering how bad the fish department smelled). I definitely would never purchase a meat or fresh product from there in the future. read more

Grand opening was cluster mess. People fighting for parking spots, old asian people will cut in front of you while you're waiting in line. Be sure to be on top of your game or you will lose your chance getting to the register or grabbing items. The Seafood area is a lot cleaner than other C-Mart and it doesn't smell. (Let's see how long this will last. I'll give it a few months) Prices are decent. The self serve food cafe doesn't have much selections. There are potstickers and bentos (unagi, pork and char sui ). After many years of seeing these supermarkets on the West Coast, am definitely glad to see them branch out with the first New England location in Quincy. As noted, this is in the former location of the Big Y supermarket and so if you have been here before, the layout is pretty much the same. The large selection of fresh produce along with hot eats, bakery, seafood and meat sections make this place an instant hit in this area. This is a highly welcome market that is clean and neat. You will feel welcome here when you walk in. Just like any supermarket, they have various promotions each week on a variety of products. If you plan on doing lots of shopping here, do suggest you follow them on social media and sign up for the rewards program. This place accepts mobile payments...which is a definite plus. There is a wonderful Mings seafood restaurant next door that offers dimsum. Many like to take advantage of a good meal and then grocery shop here. They have an awesome assortment of instant noodles, sauces, soy sauces, cooking wines, snacks, fermented tofus, chili bamboo shoots, seafood, frozen dumplings, ice creams, popsicles, etc... I wasn't able to take everything in on my first trip, because I had to be aware of the time. I know I'll return, because the options of dishes I can make have increased. - Bakery. Awesome bakery section! They have my beloved egg tarts, cheese cakes, pineapple buns, coconut buns, red bean buns, and an assortment of other things that weren't available, because I came late afternoon. Be aware that some of their items may be snapped up early. The egg tarts were delicious and the Portuguese egg tarts were creamier than the regular egg tarts. I paid around $10 for 2 egg tarts, 2 Portuguese tarts, 1 coconut tart, and a coconut bun, Definitely worth the price. - Service. Awesome customer service. I was looking for fermented tofu and was getting lost in the aisles. I asked one of their clerks in Chinese and she pointed me to the exact aisle, walked me to the exact section of the aisle, and pointed to the shelf. Definitely on top of things! - Prices. Very reasonable. One of the things I've always loved about Ranch 99 is that this is your average person's go-to Chinese grocery store. Nothing is over priced. You can buy a big bag of gai-lan, bak choy, bean sprouts, pea sprouts, whatever for less than $5, which is awesome! That I can buy my Chinese grocery staples and not break the bank is wonderful. I bought some Yali pears, pea sprouts, fermented tofu, chili bamboo shoots, and a variety of sauces, which came out to around $28. Pretty good deal and the sauces will last me for a while, as well. - Location. Conveniently located in Quincy and there are many other amenities close by, such as restaurants, cafes, etc... - Parking. Convenient-sized parking lot. Given the location, in Quincy, I was a little concerned what the parking situation would be like. Their parking lot is decently sized and accommodates a decent number of cars, which is certainly helpful. - Health and safety. During this time of the pandemic, I saw all of their staff wearing masks, which I appreciate. What's Not - No deli section. In all the Ranch 99s I've been to in California, there are always deli sections, where you can order food, such as roast duck and chicken, steamed dim sum, and a buffet deli. This location doesn't have a deli section, which is very disappointing. It would be so helpful and convenient to be able to buy my Chinese groceries and get some hot prepared food, as well. I am so glad they opened a location here in New England! It is interesting that the location is like right across or nearby C Mart. I used to shop at C Mart occasionally. Now I am a total convert! Their parking lot is very big, so if you drive, don't worry about not being able to find parking (you might have trouble finding parking at other places). The groceries are very fresh, decent meat and fish sections, lots of delicious frozen meals and stuff to try, very spacious layout of the aisles, and the store itself is also very clean (I can't say the same for other Asian supermarkets like Super 8X)! No weird or fishy smell anywhere you go! Their prices are also reasonable. I love their wide selection of dumplings and buns! My favorite dumplings are the shrimp and scallop ones!
