I love some popcorn as an appetizer. You can also get more popcorn. We did get an additional appetizer of pretzel bites, which were pretty good and crispy. The cheese sauce tasted like nacho cheese. Their summer specials included a lobster roll, so I was all about that. They let me substitute in broccoli as a side, so I didn't feel like I was making too unhealthy of a choice. The broccoli was green and was an ample serving. The service was good. The lobster roll was pretty meaty and reasonably priced. Steak was decent. 99 Restaurants have always been, in my experience, very predictable. This location was no different from others where I have dined. I ordered the grilled salmon, asparagus, salad with feta cheese and balsamic drizzle. The fish was cooked beautifully, very crispy and tasty, salad was fresh; the balsamic dressing was a clear winner as was the grilled asparagus. I've been here a few times now, twice for quick happy hour snacks, and this last time for an actual meal (with a gift card). It's a 99, so you probably know what to expect. The food is average homestyle steak, chicken or fish dishes with salad options, etc. The quality...well, if you come here expecting to be blown away, you'll leave disappointed, but I'd probably blame you for that. However, if you expect large quantities of decent food like you'd find at most chains like Applebees, Maggie McFly's, etc. you'll probably leave with your expectations having been met. Steak tips were actually quite good - they must marinate the **** out of them. Salmon was good, Fries were meh, carrots were really good, the beer selection is adequate (though doesn't change much), and they have several types of cheaper wine available (but a bit overpriced for what they are). Staff - The staff seemed a bit rushed and informal, but generally I had no issues. They were nice enough, and I didn't have to wait too long as others have complained, so it appears that has been addressed. Parking - Plenty of it, with adjacent lots for overflow or "far away parkers" like myself. read more

This place is like pub food. Expect waiting a lot during the weekends. Sometimes, they send people who came after you. They are NOT very kid/infant friendly. For 1, they advice you against bringing your baby car seat, 'cause they have no where to put it. Their food portion sizes are very small, you will end up ordering something else due to this. Don't be surprised if you are turned off when they refuse to serve you drinks after your 2nd one. They have a lot of policies that other restaurants or state doesn't enforce. read more

I've always loved the 99, the staff is always super kind and friendly. Beth is one of a kind and always remembers my sister and I. Food quality has gone down over the years. Chicken sometimes is over cooked and the rice has a lot of hard pieces. Hopefully the quality can get back to above average, this is a great place for a meal and a drink! read more

I was the first person to sit at the bar location and it took approximately seven minutes for someone to wait on me. The food was good with the exception of the lack of seafood in the "seafood" chowder. I had 98% potatoes and 3 pieces of seafood-one little salad shrimp and two little pieces of clams, SMH and all three pieces were over cooked! And on top of all of that, one of the workers had their sister come in and side cabin away right behind me, which was very rude. He's young people have no manners these days. read more

Terrible Food! The "Vermont" Burger was dry over cooked had some flavor but can get a better burger at McDonald's. They gave very few French fries which were Not hot and fresh maybe they had been sitting too long? They put a piece of lettuce, tomato and two pickles on the side which didn't match the burger item. The Steak was decent but slightly over cooked however it came with a large salad. The fish tacos came with dry rice that tasted old and there was barely enough fish in the taco to even taste it outside of the sauce. The waitress was rushed and had attitude. We asked for ketchup and she said it was on the table however none was on our table we had to go and get ketchup off another table. The coasters were literally thrown on the table and one was flipped in upright position. We tried to pay at the front as we don't let our card go out of view and the waitress had attitude initially said we couldn't pay in person at front then was told we could. They offer no senior discounts. The tables were clean and booths big and accommodating. The ESPN on tv was playing but loud vulgar music playing over intercom didn't make it a family quality restaurant. The menu caters to appetizers and liquor not a family friendly menu. We won't be returning. The fish n chips we had a few weeks ago was good maybe a different cook but this review is for the Sunday visit. We gave it a few tries but not worth the cost for food that was prepared very poorly. Positives: the strawberry lemonade and mango drink was very good however my lemonade had a cherry and lemon in it but no strawberry? The parking is plentiful and the booth seating is nice. read more

This may be the best 99 restaurant in New England, if not the eastern seaboard and I'll tell you why. 1) There's a confluence of loyal regulars (a small army of them actually) and the folks that use interstate 84, always a fun time with both 2) Ask the bartender to switch the TV to a local sports game and she doesn't need to put her nose to a printed list, she has the channel that the Celtics play on memorized. The Bruins too, also UFC and the NFL 3) Lots of bang for your buck and I'll be honest, no one on a 50 mile radius can compare with their prices. If you're ever forced to pass though the oppressive communist utopia of Connecticut and want to avoid left wing parasitic trash, this is the best place to go. read more

Don't bother using their app. If you want to make a change, you have to start over selecting a location. I am a member and the specials show in my member account. However, I can't apply them. So what good is having a membership if can't use the specials. None!!! It the worst app ever!!! Called the manager and she claimed I don't have a membership however my app shows my number that I've had for over 5 years and the specials with my membership number. Food is good . One of the things I really like about this 99 is the bar. It is enormous and open. The place was packed on a Saturday night so it was nice to find a place to have a beer to pass the time. My family was there, including two small children. They found stuff they liked, which as a parent, makes my dinner so much easier. My meal was good and I enjoyed my time as we had good fun as a family. This is a nice change of pace from other chain restaurants. You could do worse. read more

Came here earlier today with family. My boyfriend and I arrived about five minutes prior to the rest of the party so I went in to put our name in the list. It was 5:30 pm and I was told that it would be a 30 minute wait for a party of 6. I got my buzzer and went outside to wait for the rest of our party. Five mins later my boyfriends parents arrive and said that they called ahead and were told that a table would be ready at 5:40. No problem. I asked the hostess if I still needed my pager as our name was already in the list. She said no, so I sat down in the waiting area. My boyfriends mom followed behind me with the same pager and said that the hostess told her that we still needed it. . Well 20 mins go by and we're still sitting there. At 6 pm we were finally called. 30 mins after I arrived but 45 mins after we called ahead. When we were seated, all six of us were crammed into a booth. I didn't even have room to cut my salad at dinner without bumping my boyfriend. We hardly saw our waiter, maybe 3 times in the 90 mins we were at the table. The chicken on my salad was ice cold. The manager brought over our food and I even said out loud that the chicken was cold in front of him and he didn't say anything. I asked for extra croutons and got a total of five. This 99 has the nicest staff. Our waitress was nice....And apologetic. The manager was even nicer...And even more apologetic. Without being asked, the manager comped my meal, took off an appetizer, and apologized profusely for his chef's inability to cook a steak correctly. My medium steak first came out well-done, so tough to chew that my jaw ached from the effort, so dry that I had to drink water to wash it down. My second steak looked great...As the manager anxiously watched me cut into it, we were both optimistic about what I'd find. Neither of us were expecting the inside to be as raw/rare as it was. You know the decor: abundant rustic-looking natural-finished wood, brass rails, hanging plants, and kitschy artwork, signs, or other artifacts on the walls. The waitstaff has the requisite 15 pieces of flair. It's a familiar and ubiquitous genre of American food, with competitors represented by other chains such as Ruby Tuesday's, TGI Friday's, and Chili's. It ain't gourmet fare; what you hope to get is good quality basic food, generous portions, quick and friendly service, and reasonable prices. The Vernon 99 hits nicely on all of those points. Friday night with the wife and son; we used their "Call-Ahead Seating" and, despite the quoted 40 minute wait, we were seated within 5 minutes of our arrival. We shared the southwest egg-roll appetizer. Obviously out of the freezer and then into the fryer, it was tasty, but the fillings were a little gooey and amorphous. Our son (7) had chicken fingers, which were nicely breaded, crispy on the outside, tender and juicy on the inside. My wife had the tropical chicken salad, which delivered perfectly to the description in the menu. I had a different greens-and-poultry combo, the grilled balsamic chicken and iceberg wedge. The chicken was grilled in a tasty glaze, and the chilled iceberg wedge, drizzled with Burgundy vinaigrette and topped with crumbled blue cheese and bacon bits, was a deliciously anachronistic throwback to classic 1960's steakhouse cuisine. Other points... our waitress was a perky 22 year old who was quick, attentive, and pleasantly chatty. The evening manager circulated the floor making sure everybody was satisfied. The only negative in the whole experience was my "platinum" margarita, which was weaker than I'd like. We'll have to return to try other menu items like steaks and burgers. I was in the Vernon area the other day and decided to pop into this 99 since its been years. I had the boneless chicken (buffalo style), the mozzarella moon bites and the country fried chicken (recommended by my server, Jewels). My food was FANTASTIC. The buffalo sauce was spicy but not overwhelming, the mozz bites were cheesy and delicious, the fried chicken was crispy. To top it all off Jewels is a superb waitress and I would highly recommend asking for her if you get the chance! read more

Beautiful thing about going to 99 is it makes me feel young. Median age here is around 75-80. Remodel here since last visit. Much improved. Had the prime rib today which was actually pretty good. I wish their vegetables were fresh, definitely lacking there. Efficient service. Wait staff needs to realize EVERYTHING they're discussing at the waitstaff computer/gathering area can be heard at the nearby tables, particularly the waitress explaining the ropes to the new hire. read more

My family went to dinner here last week and this little elderly lady in a wheel chair using oxygen and her daughter came in. They sat across from us. It was around 5pm and there was a "happy hour". The little elderly lady and her companion asked their waitress for drinks we overheard the waitress tell them they couldn't have the happy hour price because they weren't sitting at the bar. This did not sit well with us.. it wasn't right. There is NO handicap access or seating in the bar!! So how is someone who is elderly or disabled supposed to sit at the bar??? We told the waitress that what she said wasn't right and she told us it was "corporate policy". We'll if that's the case, your corporate policy sucks. It's discriminatory and there should be exceptions to this "policy". My husband ended up buying them their drinks, as we were just so annoyed with this "policy". When you eat here, you know what you're getting. Stopped in on a weeknight with The Boy™. Had a solid, yet unmemorable dinner with a lovely server attending to our needs. My son had a pulled pork sandwich and I chose the steak dinner. Each were done right, tasty and a nice end to our day. My only gripe was waiting 10 minutes for a table in a restaurant that clearly had empty tables from the moment I stepped inside. Possibly there were not enough servers, but no explanation was ever given. It's just fine. Been recently renovated so it's look is nice and new. Had lunch at the 99 on my way down to NY on Thanksgiving weekend. I've never eaten in one of these restaurants before, but I've seen the ads on The Phantom Gourmet and was really excited to try it out. I was expecting something along the lines of Friday's or Chili's, with it's own chain spin. The restaurant was packed. Well, half of it was packed. They weren't using the other half and patrons were forced to wait with beepers for tables to open up. When we were finally seated, we were served a pint sized bowl of popcorn. I ordered the Asian Chicken Salad off the lunch menu. My husband ordered the buffalo chicken sliders off of the lunch menu. His meal came with two tiny slider buns topped with what can only be described as chicken fingers. The portion of fries was stingy. My salad was the size of a side-salad. We left feeling the meal was under-portioned and overpriced. We will not be back. read more

My husband and I often eat here, because it's close by and they have a good variety of food on the menu. The French dip sandwich is very good. However, this is not the place to order any type of steak. The 3 times that I've ordered steak, I've had to send it back. I order medium rare, and they either cook it medium or almost well done. Huge corporate redo this past winter is major disappointment. No Wifi, very little space for anyone over 6ft tall at tables, infants with booster seats or high chairs are allowed in VERY few areas, and just a general laize fair attitude by management. Great cold drafts though. read more

My family and I have just started going to the 99 restaurant in Vernon and it usually is amazing! However we went there for dinner tonight and had Kate as our server. Worst experience we have ever had there! She was inattentive, rude, and never had a smile on her face since the moment she came to our table. The food was not up to par and the drink my boyfriend got was not at all what it usually is like. But, we didnt complain about anything since she was no where to be found in the first place. Not to mention we didnt have utensils when our app came out for at least ten minutes until we were able to flag someone down. Trying to save money without cooking at home so a lot of recent meals out have been at these mid level places. Called ahead for seating on a very busy Saturday night and were pleased to get right in upon arrival 20 minutes later. The popcorn appetizer is always a hit with the kids and my husband and I enjoyed some drinks from the bar - I had the Sangria and it was one of the best mixed Sangrias I have ever had. Their prices are really reasonable and I like the options. I started with their French Onion Soup and had a chopped steak with mushrooms and gravy and mashed potatoes. It was awesome diner food. Tasty and well prepared. Husband had a salad with steak and was very happy. My son had the chicken pot pie and enjoyed it so much he's been craving it ever since! Other reviews mention.complain about the 99's appeal to older customers but I think it's quaint, I like that it doesn't usually have the screaming child contingent and I totally get the appeal of moderately-priced diner style food.
