Came in looking for my first road bike for a triathalon. The staff was friendly and attentive, but not pushy at all. I came in on a day there was a sale, so I feel I got a good deal on my bike. I very quickly ran into issues with my bike, as a new bike user I had no idea what the problem was so I brought it into the shop. Again, everyone was very friendly; however, I still had the same issue when I got home. This happened another 2 times, finally the right guy was there who rode my bike and quickly figured out the issue-yay! I also blew out a tire, when I went in they were willing to teach me how to fix the tire myself, which was awesome and of course helpful. Overall, I had a pretty good experience and if my bike had been fixed the first time I would be singing their praises and giving them 5 stars, but making that 30 minute drive 3 times for the same issue (on a brand new bike) was pretty annoying. I would still recommend people go to A-1 cycles, just probably not on Saturdays because they are always slammed. read more

I can only speak from a customer service and a "vibe" perspective as i havent had a bike serviced here. Many bike stores have been become like surf/skate shops of old as i guess riding a bicycle has become a cool, edgy thing to do. Theyre uncomfortable. Kids are too busy posing and looking cool to help customers. However, the interaction i had at A1 was top notch. Everyone here was friendly and willing to chat and shoot the breeze about their products and riding in general. Ill mention Ben in particular as being extra helpful. I purchased a bike here and got a fair deal; could have been cheaper online, but then youd deal with shipping. Buyer beware! I dropped off my mountain bike to have the drop seat greased and a new cable installed. They called me and told me they couldn't get it working, and they implied because I took it apart it was my fault it would not work. I took the bike out of the store and took it apart, immediately I noticed aluminum shavings from metal grinding together which were not there when I dropped it off. I went back in the store to ask them why there were metal shavings and they acted like they didn't see them, and they would not accept the fact that they were the ones who installed the part incorrectly and caused the metal shavings. I went home and watched a YouTube video on how to correctly install and adjust the part and 20 minutes later i got it working perfectly myself! They wrenched so hard on the part that it now looks like a young kid tried fixing it with a hammer. I will never go back there to have a bike fixed, not even a flat tire. Minor nit - I also had them fix a tubeless tire, a spoke nipple was broken. The said the would charge me for a roll of rim tape, and that they would give me the remainder of the roll to use next time. When I got home I opened the bag and there was an empty box of rim tape. I never got the unused roll that I paid for. read more

I doubt I'll ever buy anything from there again. I bought a pair of clearance Specialized gloves. I took them home and tried them on again. I noticed a seam was coming apart. The gloves were still attached to the hang-tag. They couldn't or wouldn't do anything for me, not even store credit. So much for supporting small business. I bought a bike from A1 about a month ago and have been back several times to talk with the staff and to purchase accessories. Ben knows his inventory and gave me pointers for a road race I signed up that was beyond my abilities. It's nice to go to a store where the staff knows their stuff. I was riding from DC to Richmond and it was an opressively hot day. I stopped at a little Mexican restaurant to get a cup of iced coffee. While I was in the restaurant I realized that I was going to need a new light for my helmet, so I checked on Yelp to see if there were any bike shops on the way to Richmond. It turned out I was less than a quarter of a mile from A-1 Cycling. So I pedaled over. They had a great light for my helmet and they honored my WABA discount. Everyone was super friendly. I asked if I could use a floor pump because I wanted every advantage I could get on the rest of my trip. I proceeded to blow out my tube. They checked out my tire to reassure me that the bead wasn't destroyed and after I had the wheel back on the bike I asked if they recycled tubes. They told me that have a lady who comes in to collect tubes and makes dog leashes from them. I left feeling happy and invigorated. read more

These guys told me that the best option for re routing a cable was to replace part of my suspension?? What? Then they told me the whole cable had to be replaced instead of one 6" section of housing. ...so I bought the part and did it myself. They were so desperate to up-sell me and make an easy fix complicated and expensive. Not impressed. read more

After searching for a bike shop I came across A-1 Cycling. I stopped in to see if I needed a tube replacement or a new tire for my daughter's bike. Rod was super friendly and so helpful. It took him all of 10 mins to get me a new tube and install it for me and I was in and out with no wait. Chose this shop out of several different Yeti dealers to build my custom bike. I experienced a vibe at this shop like no other. Friendly and attentive staff helped me through the process. I never experienced such a great experience at a bike shop before. Very good selection of accessories too. Let me start by saying I am ignorant when it comes to bikes, so shopping for a bike was intimidating for me. I thought all bikes were the same, come to find out there is a different kind for almost every use (road, mountain, hybrid, etc). I took spinning classes religiously all through college and was looking to get back into that routine, so I thought I would give A-1 a try after a good friend of mine recommended it. I was immediately greeted when I walked in and informed them that I had no idea what I was looking for. Sean and Ben were super helpful in matching me with the right kind of bike by inquiring what I would be using it for. Since it was my first ever purchase like this, I decided on a Specialized hybrid (Ariel) in an awesome teal color! I also hate any temperature below 60 degrees, so I purchased a trainer, as well. If you are in the market for a new bike, I would definitely recommend them! The best part about it was I didn't feel pressured to buy anything I didn't want, and they were more than happy to explain everything to me. I've now been to both locations (they have a store in Herndon, too) and the staff is just as great over there. I purchased my water bottle holder from that store and, if you're lucky, there's some guy who works there that brings his Old English Sheepdog to work with him and you might get to see her :) read more

Love, love, love this shop! As a woman involved in mountain biking I know that I'm already up against a stereotype. I have visited other shops in the area who had zero clue as to how to fit women specific geometry and just defaulted to putting me on the smallest and prettiest men's bike. They talked in high tech terms thinking I had zero clue what was going on. When I asked about the women's specific bikes they all kinda shrugged and said it's just a small men's bike. Needless to say I moved on. I found A-1 Cycling in Manassas, the staff is super knowledgeable and they understand the women's specific geometry. The staff brought me over to a section of bikes made by Liv and Specialized, I sat on the different bikes and was able to get a good feel of what I wanted the bike to do and how I wanted it to fit. They really put an emphasis on Fit, Form, and Function. I ended buying a Liv mountain bike and have joined the Wednesday women's ride hosted by their Liv Ambassador. I trust this store and I know they are looking out for what is best for their customers. I've also met a group of really great like minded women who love to ride bikes! I am relatively new to riding in general, but I have recently been to several bike shops within a 35 mile radius of my home to get set up on a proper road bike. Of all the places I went, A-1 was easily the best. They spent several hours answering my (undoubtedly) tedious questions, and giving some very solid advice. I am now optimistic about having so many different options available as opposed to just dreading the impact on my wallet. I had even purchased some parts from other shops, taking their word that what I was getting was in my best interest; but I have since returned those parts knowing I can get a better deal (and better counsel) at A-1. Their prices are competitive and reasonable, and their staff is extremely knowledgeable, patient, and amiable. I will have no reason to go anywhere else! read more

Heard good things about this place and took my fiancee there for a specialized road bike. The guy that helped us out didn't seem like he knew at all what he was doing. The saddles were all way too low and it was after I mentioned they were so low that he even made an adjustment. Than he asked tried to fit her into a xs frame when she was 5'7. I was shocked.... They have a parking lot in the back for people to test ride and everyone that was riding had their saddles waaay to the ground. I bought a bike through the manassas location, not only did I have to wait and extra week due to a screw up on there end but no type of discount, upgrades, faster shipping or anything was given. It was "oh we screwed up on our end... Nothing we can do, just have to wait longer. Our bad". I have stopped in many bike shops and they all know there stuff. A-1 knows there stuff and have good products (which are almost always over msrp) but they have 0% customer service skills. I will not be purchasing another bike from this shop again.
