I did not have a good experience with this bike shop the people there are not very helpful, are pushy and it is super expensive. I tested out a bike that was way too big for me and the guy there asked if I really needed it he might be able to order a smaller size. I felt pressured, not cared about as a customer, not educated on what bike to get and honestly I found an awesome used bike at a different shop. I had a different idea on what type of store this way, thought they would have more used bikes and be more supportive of their customers. I stopped in early on a Saturday afternoon; they were quite busy. Looking for heavily padded cycling gloves. They had a fairly decent selection so I tried on several. The floor Manager, Ben cruised by and asked if he could help. We talked about the various brands, features and price and I landed on a pair of BG or Body Geometry that fit well and had fairly built but gel pads. I was in and out in nothing flat. read more

I needed to fix my bike so I came here, the brake pads were squeaking which is why I took it in the first place. They took over six weeks to fix it and the brake pads squeaked worse when they gave me back the bike. Not sure what they did to the bike, but I feel that bike is worse now. When I first went there the customer service wasn't great either, the staff wasn't attentive at all. I don't recommend this place. read more

I, like many people, started riding my bike again during COVID. I originally took my bike in to have it serviced in July. All of the other bike shops I contacted said it would be three to four weeks to adjust the brakes and derailers. A-1 had me bring it in and fixed it while I waited. I got a flat tire in September and took my bike back in. Ben fixed the flat and made some other minor adjustments. I bought a spare tube and looked at a new bike. Ben didn't try to "up sell" me and put me on a bike for a test ride. We talked about the value of riding my old bike until it needs major service and then buying a new bike. I will definitely buy my bike there when it is time. In late September I got an early Christmas gift, a new bike, and it is great. As it's almost August now, I need to take it in for my 30 day adjustment. I completely forgot until I received a reply to my post. I definitely suggest visiting if you have bicycle needs. read more

First I called to check if they could install the disk break to my brand new bike. He said yes. We went to the Manassas location. Ben Williams was the one who assisted. He received the product but didn't let us know if they can do it or not. He did not gave us a receipt that we dropped the bike until we asked for it. He offered if we want to have it tuned and charge us $100, I said not at this time. He said it will be done after 3 days. On the 3rd day I called he said they can't do it because the disk break was broken. We don't know if he broke it or it broke during the delivery. He also said we have the very low grade quality of bike and it could cause an accident. Our bike will only be used to drive around the neighborhood. Why would this manufacturers sell this kind of bike if it is not safe to ride on. Very very frustrating customer service of A-1 Cycling. read more

Long but honest review below: STAY AWAY FROM A-1 CYCLES!!! I will NEVER, NEVER buy or have anything repaired by them again. I took my bike to A-1 to inspect/fix my rear disc brake. This was the only bike shop I had known of at the time and I had used them numerous times over the years (up until I left the area around 2004). I even purchased my first brand new bike from them when I was 8 years old. While they were going over my bike they "recommended" numerous other repairs (front suspension rebuild, rear suspension rebuild, and larger chain). Since they were the "experts" I went ahead and had them fix everything. A week later I received a call that the rear cassette needed replaced because it was too worn down (how did they not notice that when inspecting the chain??). Again, I just told them to replace it because they were the "experts" and because I wanted my bike back to ride. A month went by where I heard nothing from them, no call, no email, NOTHING. Now this is partially my fault as I was travelling extensively for work and did not get around to calling them. However being the customer, they should have at least attempted to contact me. Either way, once I called them (keep in mind they have now had my bike for about a month and a half) I was told that during the test ride after installing and fixing everything mentioned above, that my rear rim locked up and would now need to be replaced. I asked for a price and was told they would call me back the following Monday (I called on a Friday). I never heard from them on Monday or at all that week. I decided to go into A-1 to get an update since they obviously had trouble using a telephone. Again, I just told them to go ahead and fix it because I wanted my bike fixed and back (this was against my better judgement) so that I could finally ride. Once I finally got my bike back from them, $400+ and 2 months later, I took it for a ride. The back brake was doing the exact same thing which prompted me to take it to A-1 to begin with (squealing like a pig and not stopping at all). How was this not discovered during their "test" ride? I also noticed the BRAND NEW rear rim had a slight bend in it, nobody there thought to check and true it before handing it back over to me? The rear shock, which they redid, was missing a cap and leaking air. On a recommendation from a friend, I took my bike to Bull Run Bicycles who had everything fixed (rear rim trued, front and rear shocks at correct air levels, replaced the missing cap from the rear shock, added links to the NEW chain from A-1 that was too small, and finally fixing the rear brake and replacing the brake pads) in a week and half (they had to order some parts or it would have been quicker) and for a FAIR price. Seriously, stay AWAY from A-1 Cycles!!! They have gone way downhill since I last used them. read more

These guys were great! Day one of a ten day bike tour and ten miles out of Manassas, I crashed on an unmarked speed bump in the shadows. The bike was inoperable as the shifters and brakes didn't function and so much more was out of alignment. It was 4pm on a Saturday, no less. I thought my tour was done. Found this shop on the internet, called and they said bring it on in, we have mechanics available, we'll see what we can do to help. And did they! A great mechanic, who has been there 13 years, jumped right on it. Quickly resolved the issue with the shifters and brakes, straightened the derailleur, checked and trued the wheels, readjusted and tightened the saddle (part of the original problem) had me test ride it - good to go. And all before the sag driver returned from the grocery store. WOW! Everyone was friendly, concerned. And the price. At a time I could have been easily taken advantage of in order to get back on the road, the price was amazingly low. When I looked at the receipt later, I realized they had even given me a discount! They even threw in a couple of free packages of ClifShots - I must have looked pathetic with my black eye and bruises. I could not have been more impressed, and I've frequented many bike shops over the years. No wonder they've been in business for 35 years. If I lived closer to their shop and not in Seattle, I would have found my permanent bike shop! I have been using A-1 cycling for over 10 years and I have always been more than pleased with the service and friendliness of the people who work there. In particular, Ben is the best bike mechanic I have ever met. Ben takes the time to get to know you, your riding goals, and how much importance you put into your cycling. Ben did a repair on my bike and got it back to me the same day as he knew I was on a structured training plan and didn't want me to have to miss a day and reschedule my training events. A-1 Cycling truly provides a one of kind experience! From the moment I walked in the door, I was greeted by all three service technicians: Ben, Hoody, and Josh. Ben asked me what the issue I was having with my bike was, and I explained it him as he listened with great focus. I was happy that this store was also a Giant carrier as well-- so servicing my 2020 TCR was a breeze. He then said it was an easy fix, and I was worried that I would have to drop the bike off and be without it for a day or so, and I was also on vacation (I'm from Florida). Ben even showed me how to take off both tires so I could service and clean my cassette and chain myself! Super helpful. I wish I could give A-1 10 stars... because the experience was that, and more! I wish I could take the staff and treatment back to Florida with me. Ben also told me a great approximate 20 mile ride to do, which worked out perfectly after the storm this morning! For those itching to get some ride time in on the trails: 1) Start out at the intersection of Wellington Drive and Liberia Avenue (if you were standing inside of the Krispy Kreme Donuts on the corner, and looking out towards Liberia Avenue, the trail starts on the left hand side of Wellington Drive 2) Take Wellington Drive paved trail all the way to Hoadly Road. Cross the street (as if you were to continue on the paved trail on Wellington, but cross over Wellington Drive onto Hoadly. You will continue on a sidewalk for less than half a mile, and then it will dead end to the road. 3) Safely cross the street (you'll be crossing Ridgefield Village Drive) then cross over Hoadly to the bike lane flowing in the direction of traffic. ** Caution ** the bike lane does end, but there is a more than safe shoulder in which you can ride. 4) Take Hoadly to 234/ Dumfries, turn right. Take the shoulder to Counselor Road, and cross the street using the crosswalk. 5) Take 234/ Dumfries to 294/Prince William Parkway which eventually turns back into Liberia Ave. All of this was also thanks to Ben! Without this advice, I wouldn't have been able to structure my riding out for the rest of my trip. Thanks again guys! -D read more

I stopped by earlier this week with my fat tire beach cruiser to have the crankset replaced. Ben, the on duty bike mechanic, assisted me soon after I entered the shop. The shop ordered my crankset and called today to advise that the parts had arrived. I stopped in an hour or so after their call today. Within 45 minutes of me dropping off my bike I got a call stating that the bike was finished and ready for pickup. My repair was $120 which included a new crank set and a new longer chain. All my old parts were in a plastic bag waiting for me with my bike. Everyone in the shop seemed to be very helpful. I will make the drive out to this shop in the future for all my cycling needs. Staff was nice but I wasn't happy with chief mechanic Ben who ruined my valve on my 4 inch tire as he did a tune up ($100). He didn't accept responsibility and tried to charge me another $74 to purchase an inner tube to repair it. I ordered the inner tube from Amazon for $12 and another bike shop put it on for free. This shop verified the valve had been damaged which only Ben had handled. Not happy and won't be back. David read more

The staff is super laid back, super intelligent about their products, and truly a family orientated type organization. I highly recommend A-1cycling in Manassas. I purchased my bike there 2 years ago and had a 10 star experience. I'm a novice and went in there with very minimal knowledge. I did not feel pressured to buy anything and left feeling like my purchase was exactly within my budget and needs. Because of that great experience I decided to go back for some maintenance and a few upgrades. I called at 5:30 they closed at 6 but was very warmly welcomed to come by. Ben, Brady, TJ and Jake were all very helpful in helping me make the purchases I needed, servicing my bike and answering my many questions. They were nothing but courteous, patient, professional and most importantly friendly. I highly recommend A1 cycling in manassas and will be sure to go there for all my future bike needs. I will never return to this store again or refer anybody to them. I was at the Lowes in Manassas and decided to take my 5 year olds bike to get adjusted. To start with, when and explained the purpose of my visit to the guys at the service desk they both listened, said ok and just went about their business leisurely with any further feedback for at least 5 minutes (there was not else at the counter). Then after I asked if I should come back later, one of them proceed to give me the following price quote and diagnosis. - Both brakes were off and it was going to cost me $15 to adjust each brake ($30) - One brake was worn out and at to be replaced at $6 a and $25 dollars for the cost of replacement ($31) - My question here was - If one brake was going to be replaced then why was he telling me he was going to adjust both brakes for $15 each? To cut a long story short they were going to charge me $61.00 to fix the brakes on a kids bike. Anyway, I thanked them, left and took it to Performance bike in Reston which is close to my house and they fixed it for me for $9.00 and even oiled the bike seat for us. Not only that, but I was told the brakes that A-1 had recommended I change could still get a lot of use out of them and to hold off on it. For me, I wasn't only put off by the ridiculous price A-1 quoted but also at the appalling way they treated me as a potential customer. I'm glad I have choices and live close by a great bike store. read more

Came in looking for my first road bike for a triathalon. The staff was friendly and attentive, but not pushy at all. I came in on a day there was a sale, so I feel I got a good deal on my bike. I very quickly ran into issues with my bike, as a new bike user I had no idea what the problem was so I brought it into the shop. Again, everyone was very friendly; however, I still had the same issue when I got home. This happened another 2 times, finally the right guy was there who rode my bike and quickly figured out the issue-yay! I also blew out a tire, when I went in they were willing to teach me how to fix the tire myself, which was awesome and of course helpful. Overall, I had a pretty good experience and if my bike had been fixed the first time I would be singing their praises and giving them 5 stars, but making that 30 minute drive 3 times for the same issue (on a brand new bike) was pretty annoying. I would still recommend people go to A-1 cycles, just probably not on Saturdays because they are always slammed. read more
