Very unprofessional workplace. It appears to be a family-owned business where the owner's relatives, all work there. My brother started working there two weeks ago. He was in training and was promised a work vehicle the following week. When he arrived as instructed, the boss did not answer calls or respond to texts for several hours until the end of the day. After making him wait and repeatedly trying to contact him, the boss claimed my brother's efforts were "not enough," which makes no sense considering he waited for hours and tried to communicate. He was then wrongfully terminated over this situation. Fortunately, my brother already had another job lined up with a company that appreciates his work. However, this situation could have been very difficult for someone who truly depended on this job for financial reasons. I would not recommend working here or doing business with them. In my opinion, they take advantage of people. Save your money and your time by going elsewhere. We do have documentation of what happened, but we believe that what goes around comes around. read more

Located in an industrial park between Addison and Carrollton, this locksmith is easy to access just north of Belt Line and west of the tollway. They actually have several locations around the metroplex, but I came to this one based on the recommendation of a friend. I needed a copy of an elevator key. In fact I needed several copies. I wasn't sure it was even possible, but they were able to do it right on the spot and in a matter of minutes. They also provided a red rubber keychain in the shape of the state of Texas with the A-1 logo. The keys were about $7 each. What a deal! While I waited for the task to be completed, I looked over the cute key designs available for standard house keys. They had a collection of NFL designs as well as a variety of other hobbies. The store was quite large and filled with safes of various sizes. Also on display were a variety of lock entry systems including some with pin codes. I visited this store on Midway Rd. in Carrolton, November 13th at 2:35 pm to have three keys made. When I arrived home, none of the three keys worked. Colin told me to come back if I had any issues. I returned with the three keys and my original front door key and a second front door key, both made by A-1 Locksmith. Colin copied three new keys from the second key. He told me if I had any issues, I knew where to find them. When I returned home, one key worked perfectly and the other two did not work at all. I called and somehow was connected to the Saginaw store where I asked for a refund on the two keys that did not work and my credit card was credited for the two keys and Jamal apologized for the problem. The smart money would have credited the card for all three keys. I have done business off and on with A-1 locksmith and between my business and personal use of keys, A-1 had made approximately one hundred keys over almost forty years. This is the first time I had issues with keys not working. For years I recommended A-1 locksmith but no longer. I still need to find another locksmith to have the two keys that don't work made elsewhere. I decided visiting this A-1 store twice was enough and obviously I no longer recommend A-1 Locksmith. The electric driveway gate was stopped by debris on the track and would not fully open or close. To close it manually requires that the gate gear be disconnected from the gate motor. As a security precaution, the gear shift is locked to prevent manual gate closure. We were unable to get the key to open the lock. A-1's technician came quickly and cut off the lock. Not a challenging task. However, the gate still would t budge. But, then the tech went beyond the call of duty by removing the shroud of the gate engine and rebooting the logic board to restart the.gate. Went down there to get a key laser cut, tried it on my car. It didn't work, pretty much messed up the key. Who knows maybe I got a newbie to do the job. But either way if I pay for a service I expect the key to work. read more

I went into the location to ask about getting my home safe opened. The guy behind the counter looked up my safe and said it would have to be drilled. He told me he would need to find out the cost and went to the back of the store. 10 minutes later I could hear laughter coming from the back room, and when I walked back there, he was hanging out with his coworkers. When I asked for the estimate and when it could be done, he said "I don't know...I don't normally work at the front". At least 5 employees in the store and not one of them was willing to help a customer. read more

Rock solid. I like that A-1 has multiple physical locations. I've had to use them twice in 30 days, once having them out to residence, and one in the shop itself. Both times A-1 did a great job. I was a walkin at the Carrollton location on Midway, needing a couple of PATS (transponder-embeddd) Ford keys made. They quoted a price about 1/2 what the dealer did and cut/programmed the keys. The keys took about 10mins each to program. I was surprised there was no discount for the 2nd key, but it was still mondo cheap in the scheme of things. I tested both keys and they both worked fine. While I waited I was delighted to hear one of the 'smiths teaching his kiddo some 'smithing skills. She seemed to have a real interest and aptitude for the trade. How many kids these days get to apprentice with their father? I bet in 10 yrs she will be running her own business. There was an open Wifi AP somewhere (SSID=linksys) which hands out dhcp leases, but I couldn't get online through it. Proxied? MAC restricted? 30.06 status. Not posted. read more

Holy smart key! Finally, I found a locksmith that: A) Arrives at the time promised B) Doesn't charge a Sunday surcharge, as promised C) Charges exactly what was quoted on the phone, as promised D) Was in an out, pronto, as promised After a tumultuous start to our Sunday by way of the Mrs. losing her only remaining set of keys/remote, I decided to not panic and to do some research about locksmiths. Wow, what a seething under-belly of creeps that seems to dominate the lost/re-cut key market...many that I found online with reviews (under say, Yahoo!) seemed to be contrived and planted, so after many inquiries to the BBB website, my suspicions were confirmed that many of these folks are down-right hucksters. Alas, along comes A-1, a business I find out that has been around since 1949, and specializes in not only commercial and residential, but in my case, automotive. Let me set up scenario (imagine a LOT of accusatory language and general distress)...keys 'lost', car locked in driveway and no valet key. After posting on Facebook a call-out for advice, most of what I got was "dude, you're screwed...you HAVE to take to dealer" ....looking at probably $500 + (they'll have to tow it in); key with chip to be cut, programmed + remote; seems more economical to toss the car in the lake and buy a new one. However, I apprehensively reached out to A-1 and reached, almost immediately a very pleasant employee (Heather) who put me at ease from all my concerns (are you SURE you can come here and program in the driveway?)...yes, yes and yes. She laughed a little by the brain-washing most dealers do to customers who have been in the same boat...however, they are convincing enough (that's what they do) to make you have your car towed to the dealer for replacement keys (which is so ludicrous I absolutely refused to do that). Turns out, our guy was dispatched to us within 2 hours on a Sunday afternoon; she quoted me a price of gulp...$90 for the smart key + $85 to cut and program...which included the trip charge. Expensive, but the alternative was not only expensive but ridiculously inconvenient. All said and done: $175. After about 25 minutes, our locksmith came back to let us know he was done (they didn't have replacement remote, but they told me that); on a whim, I popped the trunk to find, voila, the 'lost' keys. Humph. As it turns out, that original key was so damaged, it was just a matter of time before chip in it broke or fell out, rendering car useless wherever it was at the time. Locksmith re-programmed original key (took 5 minutes) to the now new one, so both worked. All included. So, even though this was an expensive lesson, we were very pleased with the way A-1 took care of business. Don't confuse A-1 with others that are variations...use only this one; they have several locations around town, but the Carrolton location is who you'll call most likely. read more

I purchased a Liberty safe from A1 locksmiths in plano. I stopped by several times to look and kick the tires so to speak. Donnie Nusz was always willing to take the time to answer all my questions and never made me feel like I was wasting his time. If you shop around as I did you will find lower priced safes, but the quality of the Liberty's is well worth the extra money. The interior of these safes is better than any I have looked at, except for the Browning safes but I didn't have that kind of money to spend. The 2 delivery guys(sorry I don't remember their names) were extremely professional and mindful of my house while installing the safe, and I was being a bit particular about the install. I've used A1 for several years, they have made copies of my house, office and car keys. They have re-keyed many lock cylinders (just bring the handset in and they can change it while you wait). They have the largest selection of floor safes that I've seen. Always quick and friendly service, will continue to use them in the future. read more

OK, so I am the idiot that took the dogs out back and somehow locked us all out- but now I am an even bigger idiot for being out $300 when A-1 came and got us back in the house with a.... credit card. No re-keying, no picking the lock, no weirdo tool for the garage door...just a credit card. Awesome. $300, really? At 9:45 at night? And that was after I begged for a discount from $350. What a scam! I was expecting $150-ish for the service call and whatever they would have to do...but I did not even ask how much it was on the phone since I had to run to my neighbor's to quickly use her cell. I had trouble starting my car the other day and the key wouldn't turn in the ignition. I got a ride over to this location on Midway. I walked in and showed my key to the guy there, he took one look at it and said I need to replace my ignition. He said he can have someone over to my car in the next few hours. Sure enough he did show up as the guy said. He spent 15 minutes checking out the ignition and trying to repair it. He got the replacement part for my car got it working and gave me a spare key too! All that for $250. Much better deal than most places! I totally recommend using these guys! read more

Highly recommend!! Quoted price honored without the "surprise! that was just for us to come out charge" scam. Called them about re-keying my front door deadbolt. They scheduled and came within 2 hours although I had told them there was no rush. Locksmith was very professional and very nice. Took him about 10 minutes to do the rekey. And the 2 new keys he gave me are big, solid, and make my old key look and feel like a 'toy' key. They also give 10% discount for 65+ or disabled!! I purchased a home and Plano and discovered a nice (big) gun safe in the master bedroom closet. I needed it moved out into the garage so I could remodel the closet (per the wife's wishes). I called a few different places and got pricing all over the place. But A-1's reputation and reviews got them the business. I was worried about moving a 900lb safe across the hardwood floors, but Tre and his crew were super cautious and didn't leave a mark. They were prompt and professional. Made an appointment with them (they gave us a 3 hour time slot) and they called an hour after the scheduled time slot stating their tech "was way too busy" and so rescheduled for 1 week later. So, the next week, we called to confirm the appointment the day of, left work early to ensure someone would be home and they proceeded to cancel AGAIN after we spent three hours waiting for them. We asked for an unlock and 5 mins after his departure we realized our current keys don't work - we asked the locksmith to come back and they were very rude and said we should have checked (seriously I didn't realize we would have to double check their work) - they came back and accused US of doing something w the locks and refused to give us service unless we paid more - we are in the process of filing a report w the police as I we can't get on and out of our home!!! read more

Don't be fooled by the advertisement if they come to your house it will be more than you expected. They say $24 on the Web Site but that is not the real rate. It is at least $75 to show up and then $95 an hour on top of that. The technician even quoted a higher rate before I called and comnplained, totally unethical. Do not use these people! I recently moved in a new home and wanted the locks changed. They quoted me $25 for a service call and $29 per lock plus a 10% online discount. When they got here they said the locks were old and needed to be replaced instead of rekeyed. Could do them all plus dead bolts for $375. They had to come back to do the job the next day. They installed the new knobs and deadbolts. The knobs were "cheap" compared to what was there previously. Then they hand me an invoice for $593!!! Tried to reason with the woman who answered the phone to no avail. She was extremely rude! Now one of the knobs does not work and we can't get them to come back and fix it! So much for the 3 year guarantee ! read more
