Who wants to leave a great review for a towing company? I know, it suck's to have it happen to you, but we're all cogs in a machine one way or another. Long story short car (my brother's) was towed on a Sat eve, I found out Sun morn. I called non emergency police 1st, then A-1 Recovery & Melanie answered. She was so cool, no attitude. Super friendly too! . She patiently let me explain my situation. She was empathetic to what had happened. I believe she did all she cud within the confines of the law to help me, which I understood. (Btw... she was able to help me, I'm grateful for what she did!) anyways she asked me to call her back as she was on her way into the office & before I cud do that, she called me! (Refreshing) She happened to answer, even tho the tow office, which is normally closed on Sundays (& its FATHERS DAY no less!) there she was, well metaphorically. And the timing was perfect b/c she just by slim chance heard someone from the sheriff's office would be there soon & could I go now to get the car? Yes yes! She told me what I needed & what it wud cost. He aka Jason wud wait for me! If I would have had to wait until Monday, I would've had to have paid storage fees for all day Sunday, she so she saved me that $$$!!! Arriving at A1 is where I met , Jason! He was so great! Very easy & kind. And in my rush to get here, as soon as he went to get the car, I realized I had forgotten the dam keys! Without missing a beat, he said not a problem. Go back to ur dads, get the keys & come get it, it will be outside the gate when you return. He is a man of his word! I really hope A1Recovery recognizes Melanie & Jason for making what is traditionally a really shitty situation to deal with, easy, calm, kind, patient & respectful. I'm sure 99.9% of their customers are angry about their car & by the time they get to talk or them, I can't imagine what some people will say out loud to others for their own mistakes. I learned my lesson. If i need to park a rental car in a private community & arrive when the office is closed. I will ask the owner of the house to park their "legal" (it has the community sticker) on it & won't be towed if it's at the pool overnight. On Thursday, August 6, 2026, my daughter and I walked outside to leave for my doctor's appointment and her "Meet the Teacher" event at school and discovered our vehicle was gone. The leasing office confirmed they had not authorized any tow and were unaware one had occurred. I called A1 Recovery (the designated company for the complex). A woman later identified as Sutton confirmed they had the vehicle, claimed it was parked on the line of a loading zone/handicap spot, quoted $508 to release it, refused to email the photo of how it was parked, refused to give the police/incident report number, and refused to give her name. I contacted Pinellas County non-emergency and obtained the incident number. The leasing office could not locate any written agreement authorizing A1 to tow from the property without prior notice and contacted A1 themselves. Shortly afterward, David (the tow truck driver) called and said they would release the vehicle at no charge if I came to pick it up. When I arrived, Sutton was again completely unhelpful and unprofessional. She refused to answer basic questions about how the car was towed (I reverse into my spot and use the emergency brake, so I was concerned). I had to call David back myself just to get a straight answer that dollies were used. The invoice they prepared showed: * Hook-up: $175.00 * Mileage: $48.00 * Storage: $35.00 * ALR Fee (Administrative Lien Release Fee): $250.00 These charges totaled $508 - matching the quote Sutton originally gave me. What makes this worse is that the rate board hanging on their wall lists an "Administration Lien Fee" of only $100. They posted one amount and then tried to charge two-and-a-half times that amount on the ticket. My vehicle is a 2020 GMC Yukon XL (Class A). Pinellas County's maximum private-property trespass tow rate for Class A is $175. Even using the Hillsborough rates they chose to display, the total they attempted to charge was excessive. Stacking a $250 ALR fee on a same-day release after already quoting an inflated amount is pure price gouging. Sutton made a bad situation significantly worse. From the first phone call through the pickup, she was dismissive, refused basic information, showed zero sympathy nor empathy that a parent and child had just had their day completely derailed (missed appointment, missed Meet the Teacher, and a friend had to leave work to drive us), and pushed a heavily padded bill. David is the only reason this was resolved without me having to pay $508. He listened, fixed it, and said he would speak with her. Sutton never apologized for any of it. Although it was not the right thing to do, I will be transparent: after she refused to tell me whether dollies were used, I told her she hadn't been any help from the start and that I'd just call David back, and I flipped her off with my middle finger as I drove away. Know your rights under Florida law so this does not happen to someone else Florida Statute § 715.07 governs towing from private property. Key protections include: * Proper notification to law enforcement within 30 minutes of the tow * The right to inspect the vehicle before accepting its return (no forced liability waivers) * Release of the vehicle within 1 hour of request * Requirement of a written agreement between the property owner and the towing company in Pinellas County * Liability for improper towing (costs, damages, attorney's fees) Pinellas County also caps Class A private-property trespass tows at $175. The $250 Administrative Lien Release fee is allowed under state law (up to that amount), but using it to inflate a same-day bill far beyond posted and regulated rates is the kind of practice that creates these complaints. David handled the resolution correctly once involved. Sutton did the opposite - she escalated the stress and tried to extract as much money as possible. If your vehicle is towed from an apartment complex in Florida, document everything, contact the leasing office, get the incident number from non-emergency police, and know your rights. Last week, this ass wipes towed my employees car from an authorized by facility parking lot. I explained to them that we do this facilities cleaning services every night. They release my employees vehicle at no charge since I showed them prove of authorization. Now, last night, LOL they towed MY car!!! Hello- I wanted to take a moment to thank, Greg, who went so far above and beyond his required job to help my father and I last night, that it could not go unmentioned. My dad's jeep was impounded last week after it was left at the scene of a fall that landed him in this hospital. As one can imagine it was a very chaotic and stressful week as I spoke with doctors and specialists and traveled from my home in California to be with my dad. It wasn't until many days after the accident that we realized his car was missing and arranged to pick it up! Greg was the individual working last night when we could finally retrieve it. First, he made time in his obviously busy summer Friday night to help us retrieve our car. THEN, after arriving at the wrong location he volunteered to bring us the car so that we wouldn't have to travel to the other location. LASTLY, he even helped inflate one of the tires so my (recovered) dad could drive it home. Recently had my vehicle towed for parking in the wrong spot. I accepted responsibility for this. However, when I called to find out where my car was, I was answered by a very rude and aggressive answering service. I never once raised my voice, cussed or carried on. Just wanted to know where my car was so I could pick it up. I live in Sunshine Estates Mobile Home Park and this person was extremely nasty and hung up without giving me the address to write down. Worst experience EVER! My husband's mother flew over to our house in the wee hours of the morning and parked her car as fast she could to inform us that his father had passed away. She is not from our area and is definitely not aware of our parking situations. Everyone was so upset about the passing of our loved one that we didn't think to check where she parked her car. My car was impounded at the port richey location and my two hundred dollar radio was stolen out of my locked car. I had the keys. The driver seat was moved so they were obviously in there. I calked to inform them of this and git two cery rude workers who had promised me they didn't steal the radio . It didn't disappear into then air. The person that moved my car stolen my radio and i am on a very fixed income and can't afford another one. My husband had to quit his job to become a full time care giver for me as i am very sick and the dr dont know what is going on with me. I lost my mom and sister to housing fire and i deal with their with therapeutic music that i can no longer listen cuz i dont have a radio. They are playing games during the St.Pete Beach Seafood Festival towing cars out of the SHUT DOWN Winn Dixie vacant Parking lot on Blind Pass road. Win Dixie has been closed since last summer so its not like shoppers are unable to find a parking spot. The guy I dealt with in Clearwater was unhelpful, apathetic and insolent. I showed up to pick up my car and no one qwas there. I called the office and they said they'd send someone in "five, no more than ten minutes." Twenty-five minutes later, a guy shows up in a tow truck, towing another car. He Said he'd be with me in a few minutes, which I thought was plenty fair, since he just towed in another car. But 10 minutes turned into 15 which turned into 20 - all while he was taking his sweet time doing things unrelated to my car that he could have done after I left. I was sitting there waiting to pay and wasn't even tended to until I finally urged him (twice) to get on with the release. Finally, when that resulted in some movement, he took my payment and shut the door and didn't say anything about letting me in the lot to get in my car. He seem to just expect me to wait out there with no communication about it until he was good and ready. He then got irked when I knocked on the door to asked about it. Horrible all-around. One family member proceeded to shop while a few us crossed the street to see the beach while waiting. We were not gone 3 min before we crossed back to see our suv being towed ILLEGALLY!!! Awful business. Every time I have called, I have gotten an answering service. Took forever to get a person on the other line. Once I did, the answering service couldn't answer my questions. I was told the tow truck driver would caLL me back. Had to keep calling, since tow truck driver wasn't calling back. Car was towed for being parked in handicap space without a placard. Told them that I AM handicapped with not only one, but TWO disabilities.Told them that my travelling oxygen was in the car. Unsafe for me to get there without it. They could have cared less. I released the car which I had to do in person because they won't let you do it over the phone on October 3rd, and I get a call from the my insurance company and the Collision place that you haven't released your car. Our car was incorrectly towed from our property last night at 2 am. The towing company told me they were driving through the neighborhood looking for cars to tow (I asked them this specifically) and when I asked why they didn't knock or leave a notification they said, "we don't do that." The parking rules on the HOA website do make it clear that the garage and the driveway should be utilized before parking on the street; however, the rules also say that the tag number would be reported and the towing company called, NOT that the towing company would be trolling the neighborhood nightly to look for cars. It also says that we would be notified of a violation (presumably by the HOA, not the towing company) after the first offense and then all subsequent violations would result in towing, but we were NOT given a notification. And who gets to do the reporting? If I call a violation in myself, does that mean they will come out at 2am to tow someone whose parking habits bother me? Or do I have to call the HOA first? With previous HOAs I've had a heck of a time even reaching someone to get an individual's car out of my ASSIGNED spot. It was impossible. When speaking to the towing company he said, "The driveway was wide open. It was 2 am and you had all night to move your car." This is a ridiculous justification. He doesn't know anything about the situation whatsoever. * Does he know if the car belongs to the people across the street (they park on our side several times a week). * Does he check to see if they've used their garage first? (As the rules on the website state). There are two neighbors who do not use their garage, and they park in the road daily, sometimes multiple cars. * He doesn't know if the driver got home at 1am and the driveway was full. * He doesn't know if it was raining, or if the driver was sick and went to bed before the driveway was empty. * He doesn't know if the person in the driveway left for the night shift at 1am (are you going to wake everyone up to rearrange their cars? No.) * He doesn't know if someone left the spot open because were expecting out of town visitors to arrive in the middle of the night, or if someone left to pick visitors up from the airport. We had family in town for an important event, cars were switching in and out all weekend. I don't know who was parked where at all times, or whether the family members who left first were parked in the driveway or on the side of the road, some people left after midnight (after we were asleep); any one of them could have been randomly towed this weekend. When we went to sleep there were 5 family members awake at my house. Do I have to keep track of where people are parked when I'm sleeping? I am almost 9 and a half months pregnant. That car is the one we plan to take to the hospital and it is all ready to go with the car seat set up and some of our bags are ready to go. It would have been very bad if I went into labor and my husband couldn't take me to the hospital or all of our stuff was in the car that had been towed. Thankfully it doesn't seem like the baby is coming today, but she could change her mind at any time. Considering the ridiculousness of the situation, and the fact that the rules were not followed by the towing company, I want my husband's car returned today, as soon as possible, at no charge. read more
