I have used Murray Motive a number of times in the past, but generally used the Toyota dealers for our 2017 Sienna Van, under warranty. But last year or so, wait times have been over 4 hours. I have back issues so waiting that long is just too long. Of course the dealer comes up with thousands of dollars of work needed. So I came back here, no more dealers! Chris and staff were friendly and very helpful. They got me in right away and having only one car, they insured I got home & back. They are very honest and do not work on commissions, so I can trust what they tell me is needed. One thing that brought me to Murray Motive in the beginning was the fact that the company supported missionaries in Honduras and other places by providing service and auto supplies for missionary cars. I went to 3 other shops before I stopped here. They all kept trying to upsell me and get me to buy things I knew I didn't need. When I stopped here, I didn't say anything because Im skeptical of most service shops, but after their inspection when they told me what they found and what I needed, I saw that they were dealing with me honestly. I had a super happy experience at Murray Motive today. I called them up earlier this week after driving by their shop on my way to work. Knowing that I had a couple of things that I wanted to do on my Nissan before attempting to sell it, I gave them a quick call and got a reasonable quote for the work I needed done. They were very thorough in their explanations of what they were doing and why they were charging the rates that they were charging. They texted me pictures of the areas that needed to be replaced so that I could see for myself, and they even offered me a loaner car AT NO CHARGE so that I would not be sitting around my house all day, bumming rides from friends. I have been to a number of different automotive shops in Tampa and Tallahassee, and never have I been offered the ability to drive an alternative car for no cost but the gas that I used. They honored the 10% Yelp discount and the guys working there were super friendly, stand up people. I would recommend them and I will be back if I need future work done to my car (or any other car after I sell the Z). read more

Finding a trustworthy mechanic is like finding a great hairstylist, it's not easy but when you do, you hold on to that! I've been going to Murray since a friend of mine started working there (shout out to Chris Moore!) I never have to worry about getting ripped off and their customer service is awesome! I've recommended this mechanic to a few friends to include my boyfriend. They definitely charge a lot less than the dealership and they're honest about the work that needs to be done. I don't take my car there often since I bought a new car but there have been times where I came in to get my car checked prior to a long road trip and they are more than accommodating. With 30+ years experience as a Service Advisor and Service Manager at several Ford dealerships, I'm probably pickier than many customers, but I left with my truck fixed and thought "this place is professional" My Ford Ranger had developed an unusual front suspension noise that was beyond the scope of my abilities to repair in my driveway, so I first made an appointment at the local Ford dealership. The Service Advisor listened to my story and quoted me a flat $150 "diagnosis fee", in addition to the repair cost. Based on my experience, this was about twice as expensive as required, so I declined the service and looked elsewhere for my Ford service needs. I checked on Yelp and found Murray Motive, conveniently located just 15 minutes away from my home. I made an online appointment in a timely manner, and arrived at the agreed-upon time. The facility itself is clean and well-organized, and I was greeted in a friendly manner. I explained my concerns to the Service Advisor who quoted me a $69 "diagnostic fee". Considering that the technician would have to road test the vehicle to verify the concern, put the truck on the lift, remove the front wheels and front hub and rotor assemblies, the $69 was reasonable. In about two hours the Service Advisor phoned me. The Service Advisor explained that the technician had driven the vehicle, duplicated the noise, removed the wheels and rotors and discovered that the cause of the front-end noise was worn front wheel bearings. The Service Advisor quoted me a firm price including parts, labot, taxes and the diagnosis fee, and estimated that the work would take about three hours. I authorized the repair. The Service Advisor texted when the repair work was complete. I arrived at the repair facility, was greeted in a friendly manner, the final price was as quoted, and the work was performed satisfactorily. I'm glad I've found a place that I trust to maintain my older vehicles. read more

I recently took my 2010 vehicle to the dealer to check my AC because it was not blowing cold air. I was told that there was no way to repair it, but that the entire system needed to be replaced at a cost of $5600.00 - yes $5600.00! There was no way I was going to pay that amount. My neighbors recommended Murray Motive and I am so glad they did. I took my vehicle to Murray Motive and they said they would evaluate the AC system and give me an HONEST estimate of the cost to repair it. I took my car in the morning and they kept me abreast of their findings and what the cost would be - a little over $500.00. The car was fixed by early afternoon and I now have nice cold air again. Great service and customer care! I have found my new mechanic! I originally called my usual dealership for replacement of wheel bearings for my 2013 Lexus es350 and was quoted an outrageous $1,100 for the repair. I called Murray Motive after a friend had recommended them. CJ was prompt and courteous on the phone. He quoted me ($299 with parts and labor included) and said they could work on the car that same day... a savings of $800! I was even offered the use of a loaner vehicle for the day while I waited for the work. All they asked was that I replace what gas I used-- nothing more. The car was ready a few hours later and is running great. There was no attempt to try and "upswell" me on any other packages or additional services I didn't need. Just an honest job for an honest price. It was a great experience and the next day I received a text from Pat, the owner, asking how everything had gone. Three cheers for Murray Motive auto repair in Oldsmar, Florida, for providing service far beyond that which is considered normal in these days of the pandemic. My husband and I are seniors, considered to be high risk for the virus. When our van needed repair, Chris, the Service Manager, arranged for pickup at our home, then delivery after service. This kept us away from contact that might have been deadly for us. There was no charge for the pick-up or delivery which involved time out of the shop for two employees per trip. They are a competent repair shop with well trained technicians and good repair equipment. Unfortunately they charge as much as twice the going rate for repairs. When I complained that the $1300 charge for replacement of a failed fuel pump was excessive they discounted it to $800. Estimates in near by shops were $525. Murray charged $500 for an identical part that retailed for less than $200. read more

Murray Motive is by far the best repair shop in the bay area. All of their people are customer oriented, knowledgable, and very polite. I have been a customer for years because they're approach is to help you extend the life of your vehicle to it's max, instead of quick fixes. Recently, my 98' Dodge Ram broke down. It was on it's last leg and the managers recommended I move on instead of investing more in to a vehicle with a short life span. They actually connected me with a customer of theirs that owned the same F-150 for 20 years, and she was looking to sell, so I purchased that from her. Had my car in there this week for a diagnostic check for the check engine light. The cost of the test was pricey, but still less than a dealer. They did not pressure me into getting the repair done, but they shopped for the part and offered me a fair price for the total repair. I was impressed at the amount of time they spent explaining the reason for repair and the reason that the original part had failed. I trust these guys and will go back. P.S. - the last guy that wrote a review stating "If there's nothing wrong with your car, they will find something". All I can say is, their job is to find things that should be serviced or repaired. Had NOT taken it for any service except the Dealership until 2 weeks ago when the engine light went on. Dealership wanted $750 to repair. Spent $1400 on repairs three years ago. Two years later, had to replace the harmonic balancer again. And now it looks like I have to replace the single most expensive part again-the alternator assembly. Which they charged me $260 for a $97 part. I've been going to Murray Motive since 2009, and just had my car in today for scheduled maintenance. I had to get a towing truck come get my car because the transmission on my Lexus 2004 car was on its last legs. Murray Motive was very quick to call he towing company and pick up my car as soon as I called them. They called me throughout the days that they were working on the car and gave me constant updates which I appreciated. I had more problems with my car than the transmission but I appreciated how Chris from Murray Motive took pictures and sent me diagrams for the problems to make sure that I understood. I felt that Chris was very honest and straight forward with their diagnosis of the problems with my car in telling me what was really critical to fix vs things I could do later. The cost of the transmission parts and labor cane within what we found on the internet. All in all I was very pleased with Murray Motive and will take my car there again if I have issues. read more

Car was near overheat and went to Murray to have my car diagnosed. Besides some repairs that appeared necessary, MM stated that in addition to these initial repairs, I would also require a new waterpump in order for the car to function properly as it was leaking and the charge would be approx $650. Waterpump had been replaced by BMW dealership with OEM about 1 yr before. Had initial repairs done without waterpump. Brought my car to BMW service manager 2 weeks later who stated my waterpump was not leaking and was in fine working condition. Felt like they were trying to gouge me for additional work that wasn't necessary. read more

Over priced. Great sales people. Gary was totally nice when it came to fix my car and once I payed it was like he didn't know me. I spent over 3,000 there and had to bring my car back a month later for similar problem. You would think they would've replaced the whole engine for that kind of money. I think they work off commission there. Their work is not even that great. Wanted to charge 100 something dollars to test my a/c. That's just to test not to fix the problem. I took my car to Gulfport auto garage and they pin pointed it was a bad connection to the battery. I saved probably a few hundred. Never will I visit Murray Motive again. read more

Won't go back! Took my car in because it was overheating. That was $200. They found another $1100 of repairs that were "necessary". They also said my battery was "marginal" and needed replacing along with the battery cable. I let them do all the work except the battery and cable. When I took it to a battery shop a couple days later, they tested the battery and said it was putting out 500 amps, which is almost like new, and the cable was fine also. So how much of the $1100. was not "necessary"? I think they are paid commission. read more

This was the worst repair shop I have ever been too. I dropped off my car having identified the specific problem. I had lost an alternator belt and the bolt that secures to the engine. They called the next day saying I needed new water hoses (which were replaced last October) had an oil leak that needed attention (which was repaired in April) and needed a new thermostat (which I don't.) after saying no to everything, they told me the car would not start after the repairs were made. Saying a piece of the lost belt may have caused damage to the engine. I arranged to have AAA tow the car to another facility, but miraculously the car started. They charged me an outrageous sum of $273.00 for two belts and labor, saying a diagnostic was necessary to determine what was wrong - even though they were told from the on-set exactly what the problem was. There are plenty of honest repairs shops around - go to the next one on your list !!!!! read more
