Excellent excellent excellent! I took my watch here after I was given a $144 quote from the place in the mall and they had my watch for 3 weeks! I went and picked up my watch and said I wanted a second opinion. I brought it to A-1 and the gentleman fixed it in 10 minutes while I waited. He even said to pay him $6 later because he wanted to make sure it was still working after a week. It's been a week now, so I'll be bringing him the money when I get back from a business trip! Took my Tissot T-Touch in for a battery replacement back in Dec. of '22, after 7 months of excuses I finally went and picked up my watch today because I knew they would never replace the part they threw away with the battery they replaced. Their excuse, it's harder to get parts off the internet nowadays.. well if they hadn't thrown away the battery insulator, they wouldn't have had to order one... No stars, no apology for their mistake. I wanted a wind up watch as a change from buying batteries. The owner sold me an Elgin watch that just fit. $100. problem was it gained and hour and fifteen minutes the first day. I went back to the shop and said I must return the watch as it is defective. The owner said he doesn't do returns and will wear it for day to check it out. I left my phone number. He assured me he'd call the next day. He didn't. Nor did he call during the week. So he's got the watch and the $100. I'd like a watch that keeps time or a refund. I trusted him. I got had. I recently brought in an automatic watch with an eta 2824-2 movement that had stopped working and brought it in to be looked at. As a watch collector I've brought in various watches to have links removed from the bands and have batteries replaced as well as dial repair and technical repairs. I've done business with these folks for years and never had a bad experience. The bad reviews I see on here must be coming from crazy people! Like they say, you can't please everyone all the time. I think the people who have left most of the bad reviews are partially responsible for the state of this country! If they devoted less time writing bad reviews and more time investigating the people they vote for we would not be watching our freedoms being taken away little by little! This was the first and last time I will go into this business. I bought a new solar watch from Amazon but the band needed to be adjusted. I set the watch and made sure it was working for a couple of days and I took it to these people to remove links. When I walked in the door the watch was working. I told the man all I wanted was some links removed. He took the watch to the back and about 5 minutes later he came back and said the watch did not work. I could see the exact time the watch stopped working which was 5 minutes before. I said all I wanted was links removed and he said that is what you wanted? Well the watch does not work. BOTTOM LINE: I DO NOT recommend this jewelry repair shop, especially with your valuables. Customer service is poor. The owner (DAVID) is an extremely rude and irrational individual. Based on reviews, the other staff members seem to be great. This company is NOT BBB-accredited and has a BBB rating of F (as of February 23, 2019). Do not let the "good" reviews on Yelp confuse you with overall quality -- the good ratings are for simple fixes but the majority of the negative ratings relate to expensive, antique, and heirloom items. Reconsider for these types of items. Following this review, a formal complaint will be filed with the BBB. DISCLOSURE/BACKGROUND: I am writing on behalf of my girlfriend's Mom who cannot speak English well. The review and supporting information below are based on an in-person discussion soon after the incident. Fri, 08 Feb 2019 She dropped off her $16K Rolex watch, which stopped working. A-1 Watch Repair was recommended by a friend and also had a good experience getting a battery replaced on an expensive BVLGARI watch. At the time of drop-off, the owner stated he would provide a repair diagnostic to include cost estimate. When asked specifically about cost, the owner replied that the diagnostic would be free and she could decide to move forward with the repair service based on the diagnostic and cost estimate. She acknowledged and he told her he would call her within a few days. Approximately a week later, she never received a call. Concerned, she called the shop to ask the status of the watch. They replied it would be a little longer because they were waiting on parts. Again, they said they'd return a call. No call followed. She called a second time. Again they stated they were waiting for parts. Concerned, she decided to call a local Rolex dealership for a second opinion. The dealership revealed to her that a relatively new policy prevented individual retailers to obtain parts directly from Rolex. This made her wonder how A-1 was sourcing their parts if this was the case. The next day she decided to retrieve her watch. Thu, 21 Feb 2019 Almost two weeks go by with no update (she had to initiate all the phone calls). She walks into the store and politely asks Dave that she would like to pick up her watch. He responded with a raised voice, "NO" with no follow-up explanation except that he would call her back when it's ready. Shocked she again told him she wanted her watch back. He told her it was disassembled and that it would take some to re-assemble to give it back to her. She told him that she did not want it assembled and that she just wanted her watch back. At this point, he was raising his voice and so she asked him why he was yelling at her. He responded, "I'm irritated because you're not listening to me." This back-and-forth ensued for about 20 minutes. In the end, he told her he would have it re-assembled in 2 hours but that she would have to bring $100 in cash when she returned and that if she didn't have the cash in hand that he would not return the watch. She reluctantly left and returned a couple hours later. The owner had left and his staff who helped return the watch said she didn't have to worry about the cash. On the way out, she noticed new strange noises coming from the watch. Concerned about the condition of the "diagnosed" watch, she took it immediately to the Rolex dealership. She is now waiting for a response from the Rolex dealership. Common themes on Yelp & BB Reviews: - poor communication - rude customer interaction - proportionally more negative reviews relating to repairs to vintage, antique, expensive items RECOMMENDATIONS TO MANAGEMENT/OWNER: 1. Improve communication standards. This seems to be the most-complained about issue but could also be the simplest of fixes. Be more pro-active and provide a status update with the customer especially with any changes! 2. Set realistic expectations with the customer. If a known part is difficult to acquire or if the complexity of watches might require additional time, convey this to the customer. 3. Treat customers with respect. There is no reason why a staff member should be disrespectful towards their customers to include raising their voice. Mistakes are made, parts are lost, etc. but showing customers how a business handles these situations, through respect and professionalism, instills trust and confidence. read more

We had brought in a particularly difficult watch, a vintage Omega Moonface, to be repaired. I work with another watchmaker, and it was his watch- but he didn't have the place to source such specific parts. We have referred other people here before so we thought David might be able to get it working. It was already keeping excellent time, but the moonface had stopped moving. We brought it in in June, David thought he'd be able to make the part and we told him it was intended to be a Christmas present. We even payed him a portion upfront as we know that watches of this nature can take a long time to service. Unfortunately, communication from him was horrible. Not only did they not call us- but they stopped taking our calls. We started checking in around October, which is reasonable as the watch had been there for 4 months at that point. We were constantly told that David was busy and that he would call us back, never returning our calls. It then got to the point where he wouldn't even take a message- just kept telling us to call back in 1 week, or 3 days and this continued for about a month where I'd call back every time on the day he asked me too, but Christmas came and went and he told us he was too busy with other customer's jobs. Finally we asked him just to forget it and that we'd pick it up. He told us it'd be ready on a Thursday, it was not. He told us to call on Tuesday and it'd be ready, it was not. Finally in February I was able to go in and pick it up and it's no longer running. The hairspring is broken and a mess of other new problems exist. On top of that he told me that I had "pissed him off because I interrupted his work process by calling too often." I reminded him that he kept asking me to call back and that we were paying customers in this case, as well as colleagues. He screamed that I should get out of his store and never come back.
