During my 1st visit, Vlad identified a potentially costly issue (with the catalytic converter), but instead of telling me I had to pay the full amount ($6k) to fix the issue, he looked for cheaper alternatives, and saved me nearly $3k on a solution that still addressed the problem and allowed my car to pass inspection. He totally could have made more money off of me, but he actively didn't. He cared for me personally, and wanted me to get the best deal possible. During my 2nd visit, Vlad identified an issue with my right rear axle. He ordered in the parts to perform the repair, but when he ran into a problem with a parts mismatch (that wasn't his fault), he was forthcoming/honest about it and recommended I bring the car to a dealer instead. Once again, Vlad wasn't out to make money off me, and instead was honest, caring, and wanted me to get the best repair possible (even if it wasn't with him). The labor charges at CJ can't be beat at any other shop I've been to in the DMV area. If you want honest service that cares more about you than making money off you, I highly recommend CJ and Vlad. People like Vlad are a reminder of the good of humanity, and I will continue to use CJ as my go-to auto shop going forward.

HOWEVER - last week, I brought the car in because we had driven over a massive pothole and a) had some weird front-end alignment/rattling issue and b) the check engine light had come on (codes indicated cat converter and/or O2 sensor). They cleared the code and assured me everything would be fine for the 2-week trip to upstate NY I had planned next week. A few days later, I was stopped by a concerned auto mechanic who had noticed my front passanger wheel was "wobbling". We took a look and determined that the front lower control arm bushing was damaged/loose. He tightened things up (temp fix I presume) and declared that "Ray Charles could've spotted that problem. How had my mechanic missed it!!" I have the same question. Fast forward to last night and I'm on the beltway and can't accelerate over about 40mph... check engine light is back on with a code for the cat. Clearly NOT ok as Lains had stated. I went back to Lains to confront them about these things they appear to have missed and was told - "sorry - we don't have any time to fit you in before the holiday". Needless to say, I took the car somewhere else to get properly repaired before my trip. I hope Lains continues to be "busy" with their other customers who they haven't p*ssed off... I personally plan to take some of the burden off them by no longer being one of those customers. Caveat emptor! --a disappointed former customer p.s. I will add that Brian has always been great. I was told he was "out of the country" so I couldn't speak to him about this issue. I was charged $287 FOR A SINGLE IGNITION COIL, which is a 300% MARKUP over the retail price. The total bill of $690 for 1 coil and 4 plugs is excessive for a 4-cylinder engine. More importantly, they tried to sell me a "Fuel Induction Service." AMERICAN HONDA/ACURA OFFICIALLY ADVISES AGAINST THIS SERVICE, calling it an "UNNECESSARY MAINTENANCE PROCEDURE." Honda warns that these chemicals can DAMAGE SENSITIVE ENGINE COMPONENTS like O2 sensors and the catalytic converter. To future customers: DO NOT ACCEPT THE INDUCTION SERVICE and CHECK YOUR PART PRICES before signing. The mechanics are skilled, but the price gouging and the attempt to sell services forbidden by the manufacturer are major red flags.

So I broke down and took it to a Toyota dealer who repaired it for $1850. They took the car to Takoma Oldtown Auto Service for the inspection (who are great btw, go there instead) and upcharged me. Additionally they drilled holes in my cars fog lights without asking me, they stated it was to vent moisture inside the housing but I never saw any. They drilled straight through the lens, not even through the side of the housing, and didn't even bother to reattach the housing to the bumper. My car failed safety inspection at Takoma Oldtown Auto in part because of the holes in the fog light housing, my guess is Far East Motors were trying to create some billable repairs for themselves. I want to reiterate, I went in for a safety inspection and did not authorize any work on my car and they drilled holes in my fog lights and took it to a different mechanic for the inspection! I took my car to Pinecrest Shell in Annandale for the repairs needed to pass inspection (they have been working on my family's cars for years, can't recommend them enough), and I will be skipping the middleman and taking my car to Takoma Oldtown Auto for the re-inspection. I will not be going back to Far East ever, the cat in the office was cute though.

He took a look at it, I left the car with him. A few hours later he let me know the AC was repaired for only a fraction of what the dealership quoted me. I was so grateful, so happy! For two years that car ran with no AC. Johnny not only got the job done for such a great price, he got it done quickly. His customer service was exceptional.
