I took my car to AMPM to have the electric cooling fan repaired. As soon as I got the car home I lifted the hood and realized that the fan was not working. I informed AMPM but it took me a while to actually get the car to them to fix it correctly. I asked the owner to give me a ride to North Bethesda from their Rockville location. He replied that they only would give me a ride to the metro. When I reminded him that the fan never worked when I got the car back, he just argued that I waited too long and the warranty on the work had expired. To me, warranties apply when something is repaired correctly the first time, then breaks after a period of time. In this case the repair that I paid for was not done right the first time. It is a major inconvenience to me to have to bring the car back to Rockville, therefore, the least they could do is give me a ride to work. AMPM Automotive - Fan that does not work - Auto Repair Near Me - Rockville, Maryland

I took my car for the MD inspection there. They failed it for very minor reasons (old wipers, missing battery tie-down, and a light that looked perfectly fine). They also gave me an estimate of $700 to fix whatever issues they found, insisting I needed a headlight replacement. Moreover, after their inspection, the car was returned to me with the bumper hanging on the driver's side, disconnected from the fender. After receiving the car with this damage, I should have given up on them and had it re-inspected at a different station. However, in order to 'save,' I decided to fix it at a trusted mechanic shop and bring it back for re-inspection by these people. I went to two different places in VA to fix the identified defects. Two different mechanics verified that the battery didn't need the tie-down as it was already in place. During the repair process, I received a call from AMPM Automotive Service that they had my new headlight and were ready to install it. However, I hadn't agreed to any repairs by them before this call. After fixing everything listed in the report, including the hanging bumper, I called them to schedule the re-inspection appointment. They said I would need to pay $130 again since the deadline for re-inspection was 20 days (the actual rule is 30 days). I objected because it was less than one month after my last visit, and I should still have qualified for the lower $30 re-inspection rate. Surprisingly, they didn't argue here. I brought the car, and they failed it again, blaming it on the broken headlight and claiming it needed replacement. Luckily, I had a spare headlight at home. They agreed to look at it for just an extra $65, so I agreed. After their $65 evaluation, they concluded that no headlight replacement was needed. However, they claimed the problem was much more serious, and the simplest solution would be to pay $200 to fix whatever (I'm already tired of summing up this nonsense). I was close to the deadline, so if paying more meant a fast solution, I was okay with it. The car passed inspection, but the headlight wasn't working at all after their 'fixes,' so I had to ask them to look at it again. It's a lengthy review and not too entertaining to read. Long story short, at this place, they'll make sure they get their money: they're ready to lie, overcharge you for simple things, and even break stuff in your car just to make a profit!! Wanted to shout out ampm for the very fine service they provided on my 2013 Mercedes . I purchased the vehicle at an auction and one day after the purchase developed engine issues . I happen to run into one of their tow truck drivers who called his owner and was directed to bring the vehicle to the station. Once there the service manager was very helpful warning me that it would probably be expensive for at least he was honest and did what he could along with the shop to keep it within affordable. What I can say is the that the guy working the front desk was legit (save for trying to sell me on what I'm fairly certain was an unnecessary vehicle maintenance service that I've never heard of and that he admitted was not included in factory maintenance schedules). I am new to Maryland and have a 15 year old Dodge Grand Caravan. I had to get a safety inspection and it required me to replace my rear rotors. The estimate from the inspection shop gave me price shock. (BTW, in CA, the place doing the inspection is not allowed to do the repairs to avoid scams.) I decided to give them a shot. I had been going to the same mechanic in LA for 25 years. We became friends and I completely trusted him. So I was a bit nervous about finding a new mechanic here. I went to Yelp and NextDoor. Several people recommended AMPM. I explained my need and desire not to pump too much money into this old car. Adam worked with me and came up with a good compromise on price/quality. Watched them fail a low mileage new car for state inspection and fail another and charge 27.99 for removing a sticker from the windshield. Place is using state inspections as a way to scam customers. Will be reporting to the state. Please stay away EDIT: went to dealer - the DEALER - and specifically told them to look at the brakes out of an abundance of safety- it passed and was not particularly close to failing. AMPM is officially a shake down outlet. I'll be reporting them to the State and pursuing wire fraud charges under Title 18 USC. read more

AMPM Automotive has been my white knight in shining armor twice now! I found myself here the first time when I was stranded on Rockville Pike. The towing company had recommended this shop. Most places were SLAMMED and wouldn't see my car for 10 days! Crazy! AMPM took me in the same day, let me know in less than 10 min for the diagnostic, kept me in the loop on parts and when things would be done, and when I got my car back, it runs better than ever. Today, I needed to do more maintenance services including programming my key fob, brake replacement, starter replacement, and oil change. I was elated when they said they could do it all here!! I've been here a few times and my experiences have always been positive. I saw another woman's post about how they'll really treat you like everyone else and won't take advantage of you and I can fully attest to that. I've never felt like they've talked down to me or tried taking advantage of me because of my gender. They've always treated me with respect and like they really value my business. In this day and age, that goes a long way. Steve in particular is super professional and kept me updated on my car the whole time which I really appreciated. When I got my estimate, he stated "we either do it perfectly or we won't do it at all" which really stuck with me. I feel like they really live by that motto. I just recently bought a used car of my own and brought it back for another overall inspection. I came here July 3. Yes, right before the holiday!!! My dealership was closed and my check engine light had just came on. I found this place on Yelp , took a chance and called. Yes, they were open, Yes, they could see me today!!! They are off of Nicholson Lane. Pay close attention, the street comes up quickly ! Then go straight down to the back of the lot, they'll be on the right. I came in, told the nice man at the desk about my check engine light. Within minutes my car was seen, examined, problem located!!!! My fuel level indicators died. I have 2 and they died together. ( Moment of silence please....). I was told the total cost for repairs and labor. I agreed. They called a parts store, had the replacements delivered within 20 minutes!!!! The waiting room is small. But it's clean. There were snacks! There was Keurig coffee with Coffee Mate creamer!!!! Fresh water!!!! Nice clean bathroom!!!!And.......Cable TV with NETFLIX!!!! Never bring your car here for an inspection. Brought mine in for an inspection. This place is the reason mechanics get bad raps. Gave me a ridiculous bill! Said that he wouldn't drive another mile on it. Started questioning him (Adam) about it and he had no response about any of it. Brought my car to another inspection shop, they passed in 30 minutes. Showed them AMPM automotive quote and they said nothing on there was even required for inspection. One of the most unethical automotive places I have ever been to. Tried scaring me into repairs. My GMC Envoy was making a really weird noise in my front driver side tire the more and more I kept driving it. I was looking for different shops on yelp. Many had 5 star reviews but when i called AMPM automotive and explained my issue they said to bring it in for a FREE estimate when other shops wanted $80-$120 just for an estimate alone. I brought my car in and they recognized the problem and quoted me a very reasonable price to fix my car with a breakdown of the cost of the part and cost of labor. I was driving from Raleigh, NC to NYC, by myself and on the 495 beltway my car broke down. It was a very terrifying experience. I Googled "Emergency Roadside Assistance" and picked Am/PM Towing solely on the fact that they were the closest. To make a long story short, they had me towed, got the parts, fixed my car and had me back on the road in 3 hours! I made it to NYC and all the way back with no problems. While I was there I was made to feel very comfortable and at home during this challenge. Their facility is clean, with Keurig coffee (with one pod left of my absolute favorite coffee), free WiFi and even an Apple charger for my iPhone. What could have been an overwhelming and terrible experience for my 40th birthday, turned out to be wonderful to say the least.
