Joseph has been in business since 1960, knows and loves Volvos inside and out and is a proper mechanic - not like the kids at the dealer who only know how to order parts and spend your hard earned $. Basically he services the car for half what the dealer charges you. So glad I found this place! Bottom line: it's a one-man-show, but he knows what he's doing and always delivers on-time and on-estimate. And his prices for parts and labor are usually 20% below what the dealers charge since he doesn't have the overhead costs. It's almost too good to be true, but really just means you were probably over-paying by going elsewhere. Problem solved--I'm never going anywhere else. Quality work--they can do routine maintenance or just about anything else. I trust this place and will return. Location is a bit tricky if you are not familiar with the area, but you will see 4-5 Volvos in a small parking lot out front...and probably two more in the bay. Because it is a small place, make sure you set up an appointment a few days in advance. He can turn even a 75k maintenance job in a single day, which is faster than some of the bigger guys. I am always very leery of Mechanics. Being a female, I never really know if my mechanic is going to pump up the bill or whether they will actually fix the problem. There is absolutely no reason to feel this way at Expert Volvo Repair. This mechanic shop is FANTASTIC. [I don't say that lightly about car shops] The technician that worked on my car was Matt. I brought my car to him when my breaks were squeaking and my ac wasn't working properly. He calmly took my car in and evaluated it and with in minutes he was able to tell me exactly what was wrong and gave me what I thought was a pretty decent rate. He explained the breakdown in price and I never once felt he was taking advantage of my lack of knowledge! I was able to have it fixed immediately. Been now twice to Expert with my new (previously owned) Volvo S80. Excellent and timely service, honest assessment, fair price. Matt does not oversell and provides upcoming service requirements for the car. With each visit, I have been confident that he has been over the whole car. You know you're in the right place when you see a circa mid 60's Volvo 122 (think black British taxi), it was getting Expert service along with all the others, Matt's team has that level of expertise. This car repair is in a pretty remote location, but it is definitely worth it! The people are so, so kind and I was in and out within 20 minutes. The rubber around my windshield was coming off and hitting my car and when I took it in they added some adhesive and didn't even charge me for the adhesive! It only took them a few minutes to do it, but it was still super nice of them not to charge me. Their prices normally are also very reasonable. I would definitely recommend and I'm certainly going to them with any future car problems. As a warning, they don't have a website, and you do have to call to schedule an appointment. read more

At least the dealer will do the service when it is scheduled! I had been taking my Volvo to the dealer and wasn't always 100% happy, particularly with rate for labor. My S60 has 115K miles on it, and I knew I needed the timing belt replaced, so I figured I would try this place out. I had seen some good reviews online and I wanted to support a small business rather than the big name dealership. I called ahead and spoke to Joe, we discussed my car (model and year) what needed to be done and how long it would take. Joe gave me a quote over the phone and I made an appointment for later in the week. Because I would not have access to a loaner car, I took the day off work and arranged for someone to pick me up after I dropped the car off. I arrived at 8am to leave the car and said I had an appt. I handed over my keys and explained what needed to be done. Joe was out on a test drive at the time, but the man who was there said he would call me with an estimate. At 12:30 when no one had called me with the estimate I called the shop. Joe told me he did have my estimate but had not added it up, he told me a few other things that needed to be done, and prices that were frankly higher than the dealer. I asked if he still going to be able to change the timing belt today as it was already noon. He said no, he had to order the parts and he would not be able to get to it until the next day at the earliest! I did ask what was the point of making an appt to have the service performed if he wasn't going to have the parts ordered and ready to install! Unfortunately, Joe didn't seem concerned. He stated he had too many other cars to do first. I guess he doesn't need the business after all! read more

Everything people have said about Matt is correct. Our 2004 Volvo v50 (173K miles) failed to start after a stop at the MD welcome center on our way to visit our daughter in Silver Spring. Roadside assistance was able to jump it and we got to Silver Spring, but it remained dead even after we installed a new battery. We had it towed to Expert Volvo. He looked at it quickly even though he had many other customers. After a few hours of work, he determined that it needed to be tested by the special computers that typically only dealers have. He charged us ZERO for his labor - when have you heard that? He was correct. We needed a new transmission control module. I hope to avoid further problems with the car, but I'd happily return to Expert Volvo if I need something looked at. read more

Iv'e been taking my car here for many years and I just recently found out that Matt is no longer with Expert Volvo Repair. However, I spoke too a gentleman named Billy who has been there for a while and he was extremely knowledgeable and helpful just like Matt always was. I needed to bring my car in for service as well as for some other issues that I was having. Billy told me to bring the car over to the shop so he could take a look at it. Billy absolutely delivered! He did not try to sell me unnecessary repairs or other things that i didn't need. He just sold me repairs related to my complaints as well as what my car actually needed to continue keeping it maintained. Even though this shop is a one man operation, Billy got my car back to me relatively quick and fixed properly.
