I brought my 1969 AMX to Classic Car Factory for a repaint and a few relatively minor items:…read morechecking the charging system, a tune-up, replacing the water pump, adding wheel spacers, and later replacing the wiper motor. I was quoted a 30-day timeline and I was provided an estimated cost & a maximum cost. Instead, the car was kept for 8 months and the final cost ballooned to 3 times the quoted maximum. Because the car was fully disassembled for paint, I had little ability to stop the project once it was underway. The results were extremely disappointing. The car was returned with scratches and damage to more than 30 areas of what should have been a high-quality paint job and mechanically, the car was in worse condition than when I brought it in. Parts were lost, including rare and difficult-to-replace trim pieces such as the rear window stainless transition trim and a trunk lid. The windshield and rear windows apparently were unprotected when removed and were reinstalled with deep scratches in them.(They claim that the scratches were in the windows when the car was brought in despite pictures proving the contrary). During repairs, additional damage was caused: the timing chain cover was cracked during the water pump replacement, the wiper motor bushing was destroyed and they could not find a replacement so the replacement motor could not be installed, and two sets of stainless steel drip rail moldings (approximately $1,000 each) were damaged and never reinstalled. The hood latch was painted so thickly it was not operational. Literally none of the requested repairs were successfully completed. After 2 months of back and forth after retrieving the car, they fixed the paint problems - I was unwilling to have them attempt to do any more mechanical work but I did expect them to replace the parts they lost or damaged. They have not. This experience fell far short in terms of workmanship, care, timeline, and cost control. They advertise the lowest hourly rate for mechanics - they should hire one. Their slogan "We can do that" should be adjusted "We can do that but not well". I cannot recommend this shop based on my experience.

I had a really good experience with Classic Auto Factory and wanted to share it. From the start,…read morethe team was easy to work with, straightforward, and clearly knew what they were doing. They kept me in the loop the whole time, explained things in a way that actually made sense, and did exactly what they said they would. No runaround, no surprises--just honest work and solid communication. You can tell they genuinely care about the cars they work on and the people they're working with. That's not something you see everywhere anymore. Overall, I'm very happy with how everything turned out and wouldn't hesitate to go back or recommend them to someone else.

Don't waste your money and time going anywhere else…read more Had a shop in Plainfield (you figure out the name) working on the car previously. The other shop had me by the Short Hairs as they had screwed it up so badly this past spring I COMPLETLY rewired the car. Originally the previous shop was provided with a new harness and it was such a mess when I took it back the guy that wired it asked who created such a mess. Surprised the car didn't catch on fire. Had to buy another harness as well as replaced the swap LS2 harness out. Add to this the 4-link wasn't rotating correctly which Blackdog straightened out. The other shop also fabed up an exhaust system which fell off on the way to Blackdog, it was replaced by Iggy's, this is what they do and what they have been doing for more than 50-years. Since getting the car back from Blackdog my stomach isn't turning anymore and the car is actually becoming a joy to drive. The rear end gear is howling to beat the band, this is yet another install by the other shop, it will be replaced in the next week. I have documented ALL of the issues resolved that were created by the shop in Plainfield and since corrected, anyone up for a Class Action Lawsuit? Lesson learned, DON'T make the same mistake I did unless you have the money to keep tossing out the window and the stomach to take it. Just start out at Blackdog!
