I would give them six stars if I could. This is your 'go to' location for your foreign car needs, especially Audi. I was misdiagnosed with a bad cylinder at another shop in Fort Mill. The mechanic said, I needed to replace the engine in my Audi Q5. I could not believe what was coming out of his mouth. I'm not a mechanic but a single cylinder not getting minimum compression doesn't sound like a total engine loss and this from an ASE certified mechanic. I was happy I get a referral here and a second opinion that was accurate. It turns out it was a bad fuel injector. Yes, better than replacing an entire engine. They have great mechanics here who are ASE & Audi certified. They have personable and professional Staff in Jennifer, JD & John. They offer a Veteran discount. sadly they don't have a loaner car option or provide drop off/pick-up transportation. Dutch, the owner, is a former 727 pilot with Eastern Airlines. I requested a quote for changing spark plugs and ignition coils on my ML350. They refused saying i had to bring the car in. Why??? My plugs and ignition coils are still for a ML350! Seeing the vehicle doesn't change that fact. I didn't ask for a diagnosis I asked for a 60k maintenance item to be replaced. What a waste of time! Reading over the other reviews I'm not surprised at all to see so many rave reviews for A&M Auto Service. It makes a lot of sense, these folks rock! I've been in Charlotte for 10 years and I've been going to A & M almost that long. From the first time I met Dutch, the owner, I knew this was someone I could trust to be upfront and honest with me. In my opinion, A & M is the most trustworthy and reliable auto repair shop that I've ever worked with; and that really puts me at ease when I take my car in for service. I have found the staff at A & M to be honest, friendly, helpful, highly skilled at what they do and very reasonably priced for the level of service they provide. I don't know very much about cars, so feeling like I can really trust my auto shop is extremely important to me. A & M is the first place I've gone that can explain car stuff to me in a way that I'm comfortable with. Dutch has even shown me parts that have come off my car to help explain what's going on. I've had robb and the boys working on my cars for years. Wouldn't trust anybody anymore that I would trust them. If they say it needs to be fixed it probably does but if it doesn't they don't do it anyway. Now they will give you the parts that they replaced if you would like. Rob is a good man good father and very trustworthy. When you originally open the shop. He set it up for his wife and daughter to be able to come in and feel safe getting their car worked on or leaving it. A lot of places women do not feel like that . I've turned a lot of people on to A and M with all kinds of cars. All of his guys are set up to work on high-end vehicles are just a regular car or truck. PLEASE READ THIS REVIEW. (I posted this on Google too...I'm not just some spammer.) Sorry for the length... I would be weary of the good reviews online for this place. First off I need to say they come off as genuinely caring and taking pride in their work. I used them because of the good reviews online but what a mistake that was. Here is a quick summary of my experience... Brought in my 95 BMW 325is for smoke coming from the exhaust. They wanted $100 for the first diagnostic, $300 for thermostat replacement and $100 for ANOTHER diagnostic. It's ridiculous to be charged $100 for one simple diagnostic let alone two $100 charges. Most shops won't even charge for a follow-up diagnostic. Had them do the work and then they called saying I needed an oil change which would be $120! Seriously? They refused any discount on the oil change. $622 later I pick up my car. Immediately after picking up the car it was making a loud noise like a pulley or bearing going bad. I brought it back. They said the pulleys and belts were bad and it would be $350 to $450. They denied it could be related to their previous work even though I've read online you often have to remove the belts to replace the thermostat. And even if they didn't remove the belts what are the chances it would make this noise out of nowhere immediately after picking it up? Then later that day they called and said the water pump was also bad. Turns out they already replaced it without me asking so I had to pay for that too. I get the car back and it's STILL making the noise. Not as loud but still making it. Before I had time to schedule another appointment the car breaks down on me in a Boston Market parking lot and pours/steams out all of the coolant. They denied ANY chance it was related to all the work they'd done with the coolant system and wanted $450 to $475 to replace the coolant reservoir. I called other shops which all quoted me HALF the price for the exact same job. I had it towed somewhere else to get repaired and then A&M told me I still owed them $50 for looking at it. I was pretty much at a loss for words when they asked me to pay $50 to have them tell me I owe them nearly $500 more for a problem clearly related to work they'd done. And at double the price other shops quoted. Obviously it's up to you but I'd stay away from these guys if you don't want to get screwed over. They even told me they "aren't cheap and don't want to be". Well...that's fine if you do great work but they certainly do not. read more

I went to see the guys at A & M auto service today directly after leaving the dealership where I got an outrageous quote for an unlikely problem. The team looked at my car very promptly and when the technician returned to speak with the owner, they had their conversation right in front of me--nothing to hide. After asking me to put on a pair of safety glasses, they took me to my car and showed me the parts in question and what was going on. I cannot put in to words what it means to find an honest and qualified professional who cares about customer service. I won't even have my oil changed anywhere else again. Amending my previous review for two reasons: 1) Just got a call from the tow truck company, saying that they found my envelope with my estimate mixed in with the tow truck driver's paperwork. So that was not A&M's fault. HOWEVER... 2) I took my car elsewhere for a second opinion this morning and I was told that although my brake rotors & pads did in fact need replacing (as expected), my brake calipers & hoses were fine (contradicting what I was told at A&M) and I was quoted a price $300 dollars cheaper than A&M which just confirmed my suspicion that A&M was trying to use scare tactics and rip me off. read more

Liz was extremely rude on the phone. I called to see how much it would be to get an estimate before I did any major repairs and she could not give me an answer. She then put my on hold, returned from hold and told me to take my car else where if I wasn't going to do the repairs there. I don't want to get into costly repairs, if I can't get a price for a diagnosis....then she proceeded to tell me the price of that would be $99-135....Geez, was that that hard to tell me that price??? Customer service on the front end was so rude, I can only image the ride I would have been taking on for the bill! I told her I would go elsewhere! read more

I called this place and asked for a specific Technician that I was told might be able to work on my car. Got disconnected, and when I called back immediately after, the person I was talking to was "busy". I was told that they didn't know if they could work on my car and that they had to ask the owner, NOT the technician I asked about. Judging by other comments, I was talking to Liz on the phone. She was extremely rude and couldn't seem to answer the simple question of whether or not they could work on my car. I was told I"d have to wait for a call back from the owner. I said I'd wait while they asked the owner, and of course, he was in a meeting. I felt like I was on the phone with Verizon or some other major telecom company giving me the run around and avoiding helping or having to deal with me at all costs. It seemed as though my phone call was a nusance to them and that they didn't care about my business. read more

I honestly cannot say enough good things about A & M! Excellent service - honest trustworthy, thorough, professional. I wouldn't take my car anywhere else. My husbands car had an engine problem and it's a long story but when the dealer threw their hands up and said time for a new engine I called A & M (picked them based on other reviews). Scott went way above and beyond and actually found out that this engine had a history of the block cracking (Ii think that was the term) and if it did, we could get a brand new engine with full warranty without paying a dime! Literally saved us thousands of dollars and basically got a brand new car! I completely trust these guys - just one of those places that you really feel completely taken care of. I was looking for a good mechanic 8 years ago and spoke with a friend of mine at the office. She recommended Dutch at A&M Auto Service. I soon started to see why she liked Dutch so much - instead of confusing me with technical jargon, or giving me choices without any context, Dutch took his time to explain what was happening with my vehicle, what my choices were, the impacts, and his own recommendation. I soon learned that Dutch was a real rarity - a service provider I could trust. Trust is something that I do not give out randomly, so Dutch and his team had to really earn it. When he recommended NOT replacing items that were still functional because I could get more life out of them, I knew I had found the person I wanted to take care of my vehicles. His advice is financially based, as he sees my vehicles from MY perspective - as mechanical conveyance that I need to keep as along as it is cost effective. If my repair bills start to outweigh the cost of a newer vehicle, then its smarter for me to replace that vehicle. Its too bad other reviewers don't get that. My current approach with Dutch is to religiously bring my vehicles by every 5k for maintenance. I ask Dutch and his team to do whatever is needed, and to let me know if there is something unusual. I will always get an explanation of what work has been done, and any items that they are tracking or that I should watch for. Its refreshing to have a trusted person who I can bring my car and truck to - just dropping off the key with a "please take care of my vehicle". Dutch, and the others at A&M, are in a class by themselves. After a recommendation by another service shop, my girlfriend took her car to A&M. We knew immediately that we were in good hands. After a diagnostic check, they found that it needed work that could possibly be under warranty. So, without any urging, Dutch took it upon himself to do the leg work for us. He contacted the manufacturer, found that less than stellar parts were originally used and that it indeed qualified for warranty repair, which the dealership had to perform. So we thanked him, and took it to the dealer. The dealership, on the other hand, was quick to inform us that the work was NOT under warranty and could cost us thousands of dollars. They wanted to charge for EVERYTHING! My girlfriend, out of sheer frustration, called Dutch to ask for advice. He simply told her not to worry. That he would "go to bat" for us, and sent one of his technicians(at his own expense!!!), to the dealership to explain what they had found, that they had already spoken with the car manufacturer, and that it WAS covered under drivetrain warranty. A&M made several calls on our behalf(knowing what to ask who), straightened out the rude dealership, and kindly consoled my extremely upset girlfriend. Dutch went out of his way, to no benefit of his own, to help us in a very ugly situation. These folks are at the top of their game. They are extremely knowledgeable, unbelievably kind, and will go out of their way to be certain that you are not only satisfied with the service, but ecstatic! A&M is the REAL DEAL. A recent situation serves to show how A&M does business. One of my vehicles broke down 180 miles from home. I trust A&M so much I was prepared to have my car towed to A&M so they could perform the required repairs. Without prompting, and without hesitation, SCOTT immediately suggested a quicker, and less expensive(no towing) solution. Scott told me to skip the towing, as he walked me through step by step in finding a NAPA-certified garage where I was. Scott then contacted that NAPA garage made sure they could perform the specific work, get the required parts and etc. and my vehicle was repaired within 24 hours. The repairs are guaranteed by A&M (and every NAPA certified garage), I did not have to tow the vehicle, and A&M did not make a cent on this repair. Scott's effort, time and concern to help me with this repair 180 miles away says it all about A&M. 'Dutch', the owner, Scott, Liz and the qualified technicians are absolutely the best. I highly recommend A&M Auto Service. The repairs done by A&M are done right, and they are more cost effective than the dealer, AND ALL of the staff at A&M are FANTASTIC. read more
