I called Almar and spoke to Frank about installing a remanufactured engine in my 1995 Ford Mustang GT V8. After I had it towed to Almar, Frank called me back & asked if I had seen the car, which was strange since I bought it new as a retirement gift for myself in 1995 just before retiring from the Marine Corps. Frank said that the car had a broken mirror and a bad tire, etc. Basically, he refused to install an engine. I asked Almar to install an engine, not tires or mirrors. I was 9 hours from home visiting family in Charlotte when, the night before Christmas Eve, my car started shaking and my check engine light started blinking. My heart sank, not knowing how I would find a place that could fix whatever was wrong right before the holiday and have me back on the road on Christmas to meet my boyfriend's family. I called a few places as soon as they opened on Christmas Eve with no luck, but when I reached Mike at ALMAR, he told me to bring my car in right away. I could not be any happier with the service I got from this place. I had a timing chain issue which is a very expensive repair on my car. Not because of the parts but because you have to practically take half the car apart to get to it. Mike was upfront with me about everything including letting me know that I could probably drive my car for another year in its condition but I would not pass emissions and it would have to eventually be repaired. I was told the repair would take about two days and guess what? It was done in two days. Actually a few hours before. When I picked it up I noticed a squeaking that was not there before. He suspected a little fluid got onto the timing belt but if it was still squeaking after a week, I could bring it back and they'd take care of it. It continued to to squeak and so I brought it back a few weeks later. True to their word the replaced the fan belt, which was the source of the noise, at no charge and even threw in an oil change. My car is humming along like the day I bought it now. I hope I don't have anything else but routine maintenance from here until I'm ready to get a newer vehicle. But, I won't hesitate to give these guys a call and turn over my car to them for any future maintenance. read more

Took my car to get inspected since it was close to my work. I had hit a mailbox 2 days before which broke my tail light and was freaking out. I put a temp fix on it until I could get my new lights in. A friend of mine does inspections and he assured me that what I had on was legal and would pass. That someone would have to be a real a-hole to fail that. Well I went to this shop and sure as heck they failed me! I couldn't believe it. Untrustworthy - I purchased two sets of warranties tires. After first set didn't perform the warranty promised never showed up. Then requiring another tire (yes my 9th in 14 months) and being promised they would finally credit me the warranty owed for the new tire- they mismatched it and charged me double. So let me be your middle-guy here and tell you this is the place to take your ride. My family has been using Almar for all of our cars for years. They are straight forward, they will do whatever they can to make your automobile safe and legal to drive without breaking the bank. I take pre-owned cars here to have them evaluated before I purchase and they have never steered me wrong. Tap the brakes! Nothing is free, but they will not run up the labor or start replacing things that don't need replacing. There is a reason they are always busy, they do the job the right way. These guys are God's gift to Charlotte! Super honest, fantastic work, and absolutely beyond reasonable pricing. I used to come and only get big jobs done here like rack and pinion, ac and catalytic converter work, but recently fired the dealer and now come strickly to Almar for all my vehicle needs. The office ain't to shabby either, with free internet, halfway decent coffee (Hey you can't have everything in life, plus it's free!), and super clean bathrooms, it's easy to come in during the week and plug in remotely while the guys do their thing. I have recommended co workers to Almar and they all thank me for introducing them to this group of super honest, highly qualified mechanics.
