Extremely disappointing. Our family had work done by Sam and he assured us with his roof repair warranty guarantee. We were duped. Several of the roof tiles came off and we attempted to contact for repair via email, phone, texts. He promised to come repair it when I contacted him from my daughter's phone number, since it's a new number he doesn't recognize. Now silence. He ignores and doesn't fulfill his promise. After years of using this company, their warranty got put to the test. Sam Duka is a liar and a thief. I had to get my roof inspected and fixed before having solar installed. Usually the solar company partners with a roofer and offer you this under one package warrantied by the solar company. The company I used, Empower Solar in Long Island, did not have an associated roofer in Staten Island at the time, so they told me to use whomever I could. I asked Sam what the best option was. Best most expensive (2019 price) was $10k to strip shingles and lay new shingle down, $5k to do shingle over shingle. Advise to all solar owners, stick to single shingle because down the road problem troubleshooting is easier and cheaper. Anyway, I went with shingle over shingle, solar company also agreed it was ok to do so (mistake). Sam also had replaced a skylight for me earlier (which you can see in my original review). 2022 December, I get a leak in my room, next to and near the skylight. I go up into the attic and could see mold. For the next few months I got batted back and forth between the solar company and Sam about who's fault this was. Sam DID NOT EVEN GO BACK ON MY ROOF (he went to the attic and that's it) and said it wasn't his work that was the problem. Then told me that his warranty was voided the second the solar company drilled into his shingle. I stated to him, that the only reason he was given the job to put new shingle down was because he knew I was getting solar installed. So I asked him, did he lie and say his work would be warrantied, knowing he wouldn't live up to it because his "out" would be blaming it on the solar company? He gave no answer to this. Btw he never gave me any paper work that there is a warranty of his work, so I was doubly screwed. Anyway, I ended up paying $1800 to the solar company for removing, checking and reinstalling 1/3 of my panels. I called another roofer, who found that some shingles around the skylight had shifted, and a few of the nails around the skylight were not caulked. He did a heavy duty caulk job, that even the solar guys were impressed with, and I have had no leak since. So it ended up being the skylight, that Sam Duka installed; he didn't bother to check it out, he didn't fix it, blamed my solar company, did not honor his own verbal warranty (which was also listed on his website), and cost me more money. He is a real POS, and is not a man who is true to his word. read more

I needed my roof to be done prior to a solar installation. Sam provided his quote and advised me to replace the entire roof since he wasn't sure how many layers were already installed. After removing the previous layers (which was thicker than he expected) he had to make adjustments to level the roof with the my gutter. The job was great and he even made sure my solar installation was done without damaging his roof installation and covered warranty on the job. Sam is a gentleman. That sums it all up. He was honest and straight forward and did the work he said he would do and then more! He explained that our home had 3 layers of shingles - and they had to be removed. Not only did he remove them but he carted them off. He had a large crew with him and they all worked and Sam was there the whole time. It is so important that the person you shake hands with is there through the job to deal with any questions. A&S roofing; I spoke to the office girl Danielle. It took so looking to get a roofer to come & give me an estimate. They both had attitude problems because I couldn't understand them. By having illegal immigrants working for them they send them to my home & could not speak English and gave me an outrageous price to repair my roof. Once I advise the owner that I couldn't understand his workers he start screaming at me and advise me he doesn't want my business. He said his Illegal immigrants could understand me, I guess it's cheaper without paying tax they sure as hell didn't look like they didnt know what they were doing. Moral of the story; as an owner do your own estimate instead of sending illegal immigrants they can't speak a word of English or can't understand a word of English. Stay away from A& S, i'm sure they will over charge you because A&S needs to pay illegal immigrants for a fraction of nothing so they make a big profit. Pay attention to the one-star and negative reviews, they don't lie. I had a similar experience with Sam. At first, he was nice and professional (obvious if you want your business). He gave me the price after I saw several other roofers. I agreed with the proposal estimate that was emailed to me. Then Sam called me and said my attached garage was not factored in the quote, which I thought was surprising because other roofers included the garage as understood to be the full house, why would I not do the garage. So he came to do the measurements and then he jacked up the price that was too high for me to agree on. I told him I will still do the house roof as agreed on the price quoted, even though the garage is not included, I told him in the future I will install the garage roof myself with a couple of friends. Then, Sam's character changes from a nice guy to a jerk. He walked off and drove off saying why don't you let your friends to the whole roof for you. I would go to another roofer and pay a higher price than go with this company. He backed down on his promise. He is a shady person as the other reviewers had mentioned. read more

During my first interaction with Sam, it seemed very pleasant. He came to look at my roof (which had asbestos) and told me that you didn't want to put his reputation on the line and that he wouldn't touch my roof. After asking him a few questions about the process and possible cost to hire an abatement company to remove the asbestos shingles, Sam told me that he would do the job on a weekend when no one was around and no inspectors would be lingering for a set amount. His shady character came out and I smiled and said I would get back to him but I chose not to use him. I did some research and really saw that this is not something that you should play around with and should be done by a licensed abatement company. I chose not to use Sam and his company because of the seriousness of the job and he wasn't licensed to perform the duties that were necessary. So I called Sam today because the company that did my roof is in long island and I was in a bit of a bind. Some of the ridge shingles came off my house and I needed someone quickly to re-nail them. Since he lives on Staten Island I decided to just give him a call. Was that a mistake! First he said he would come within a half hour to do the job, which was great because it was a last minute thing. When I text him my address he calls me back 15 minutes later and says that he is not coming. He said he remembers my house and that since he didn't do the job, he's not going to come. I felt that was a weird reason not to come. It seems as if he had some harsh feelings because I didn't choose to use his services the first time. My in-laws paid for my new roof as a gift and chose to use a company they have used for years (20k in total to do the job). But here's the kicker, Sam texts me about 20 minutes later to ask "has my roof been done?" I replied that the roof is brand new, but it could have been that the company did not use enough nails (I'm guessing because I can't get to the top of my roof). He continues to text me saying I get what I paid for, insinuating that I can go screw myself because I did not use his services the first time. I did not want to endanger my neighbors and my family by illegally removing asbestos from my roof. I could have possibly been fined for doing this. I'm glad I used a great abatement company because they had to use a special machine while removing the shingles. Stay away from this shady character, even when in a bind. If he is willing to perform shady practices even with his knowledge of roofs, just imagine what he will do to cut corners and maximize profit on your home. read more

They worked very well & very fast and completed the job in just 6 hours which included cleaning everything up immaculately. - they removed all old shingles - replaced with new 30yr. guaranteed GAF shingles. - installed an ice & water shield around gutters - removed and replaced all old vents - removed an old dish and antenna - installed a power attic fan & - fixed a hanging gutter for me as well On the day of the estimate Sam answered all of my questions, took me up to the roof to explain everything that he was going to do, showed me video's on how the roofing process works, provided plenty of samples to choose from & offered a very reasonable price. Sam put a new layer of roofing on my flat roof and said he would guarantee it for at least 5 to 10 years and did come the first 2 years to check the flashing. So year 3, I had a leak and called him, he called back initially and said he would come the next day. He did not , nor did he respond to my phone calls. So, I had to call other roofers to deal with it only to hear how it wasn't done properly. I called Sam of A & S Roofing after I received an estimate from another company that I had used many times before, but this time the estimate seemed rather high. Sam came over within a day and his estimate was half the price of the first. We called and told him to do the job as we needed a leaking roof repaired. He replaced where the gully was leaking and did not take any money from us until it rained heavy, which was over a week. He wanted to make sure we were happy with the job and all was ok. When he can to collect his money, we signed papers guaranteeing his job for 5 years. I also checked to make sure the shingles they took off were replaced with the same quality timberline shingles and they were. Very happy with the job, cost and professionalism.
