Took my daughter's basic Singer sewing machine over to see if it was completely broken or if simply the bobbin or timing belt was out of whack. The friendly and knowledgeable owner gave us a step by step run down on how to properly thread the needle vs bobbin, what not to do, what fits where in order to operate without hiccups moving forward. He replaced a worn needle too. In minutes he got our little machine back to running like a little pro! And he didn't charge more than a minimal $10.00. No expensive repair required. I have had a sturdy beautiful Singer sewing machine for decades. Gradually it stopped working well, and it never occurred to me to have it looked at. For a very reasonable price, it was completely restored to full perfect working condition at A&S. They've done a great job with it. You definitely get the sense you are supporting a local family and a local business when you patronize the store, and it's nicer to be there than in a big box store. I've had my sewing machine fixed here and George the owner and technician was very knowledgeable and had a quick turnaround of my machine. I had another problem with it a time later and he let me know if it was an electronic issue it would probably be better to put the money towards a new one. Mind you I have put a lot of miles on my sewing machine and the price of the electronic boards without the labor added was very pricey. So I ended up purchasing a new one. read more

I can't say enough fantastic things about this business. My sewing machine broke down and I'm a small business owner with many sewing orders to fill. The owner took a quick look at the machine, identified the problem immediately and repaired it right on the spot, oiled and tuned and ready to go in minutes. I thought I would have to spend days with out it! He also kept the store open a few more minutes because I couldn't leave work early. This is a privately owned business by a man who will give you the impression that you have just stepped back in time to a place where people made their passion their business. I'd be surprised if he hasn't been doing this his entire life. They sell and repair both vacuum cleaners and sewing machines. The sales side is higher end products. I'm a relatively new sewer and purchased an early 1970s Sears-Kenmore sewing machine from an estate sale earlier this year, just in time to start sewing masks for Covid-19. It worked alright for those 3-4 months but it finally had enough and stopped working last week. I was scared I had pushed it beyond repair, and the internet quoted me a hefty price for just a tune-up. When I found A & S I figured it was my one shot at keeping the machine, despite it being 45 minutes from my home. I'm SO glad I took the chance! George had it back in tip-top shape within 24 hours. I was given top-notch service, and he kindly and patiently went over all of the parts, how they work, and how to ensure I don't run into any problems.
