Wow. I've never had a bad experience like this where I had to walk out. From the moment I sat down in his chair he was complaining about how long my hair was and how thick it was even though I was only there for my roots. He kept commenting on how sweaty I was so I finally mentioned that it was warm in there and he said oh you're going to have to stay sweaty then because I'm cold. I originally made the appointment for roots and a blowout but after he was super rough at the bowl and I asked him to please be more gentle he gave me a lecture on why he couldn't be gentle while washing my hair. I thought point I just asked him to please brush my hair so I could leave and he said I knew it as if he had pegged me for some kind of Karen lol. I'm going to leave a picture of how much hair I pulled out because of how rough he was at the bowl when I got home and blow dried and brushed my own hair. No I don't know anyone except David but my roommate says she knows Tony and will be speaking to him directly. I got home and I was shaking. It was just him and I and he was mad. He quoted me $95 for this amazing experience lol. There's more but I want this to be over. This place or at least David isn't for female clients at all. I almost forgot this man had clothes on that must've been two weeks old without being washed he stunk so bad when I got home and blow dryed my hair I could still smell it on me. So yeah I may be sweaty due to hyperemesis but at least I don't stink. read more

Another great haircut from Tony at A&T Salon! He was busy and running a little bit late, and there was a short wait, but what's a few minutes for excellent treatment? Some grumpy customer came in after me and Tony asked him if he would wait a few minutes, but he wasn't willing to wait, and left in a huff, loudly griping that "11:30 is 11:30!" when in reality he arrived at 11:40-late for his own appointment. Apparently he's entitled to be late but heaven forbid he have to wait a few minutes for an excellent haircut. Nevertheless, I got an excellent cut with great efficiency-as always! read more

I met Tony when he was at Supercuts. I was on a student's budget, but still I'm kinda particular about my hair! Tony does such a great job that I followed him to his new shop, his partnership with Annie. They make a great team, and they are both wizards. One thing they kept was the reasonable pricing that I was used to. Yeah, it's a bit more than the chain shops, but they take so much better care than those other "clip joints". I love going to A&T. It's has a homey feel to it, and a friendly atmosphere. Waiting guests find themselves chatting, the music is fun, and the air is fresh. No harsh chemical smells like you find in other salons. They don't use any of that stuff. Try them out. They have free parking right there on the side of the shop. read more

Do yourself a favor and DON'T GET A HAIRCUT HERE. I was walking by and noticed this place. I needed a haircut, so I thought I'd give it a shot. I saw a woman inside sitting down and talking on the phone. I tried to open the door, but it was locked. The woman got up and opened the door. I went inside. She told me that I can get a haircut here and she alerted someone in the back that a customer was here. After a couple of minutes, a tall man with long hair appears from the back. They told me that a haircut costs $20. I had to ask where I should sit. I sit down and begin to instruct the man as to what type of haircut I want. I tell him that I want a short haircut with a fade on the sides and about 1/2" on top. I had to tell him about 4 or 5 times. He asks me about clipper numbers. I told him that I don't know about clipper numbers. I only know what kind of haircut I want. I'm not going to do his job for him. He starts cutting my hair with the clipper. He asks in almost a whisper, "Do you live around here?" I don't like strangers asking me questions about where I live. I say nothing and let him ask it again. I say, "You're asking me if I live around here? Do you live around here?" He says, "Sorry" and continues cutting. Before I know it, the jackass has cut the sides of my head down to almost nothing. I notice this and tell him that he's already screwed it up. There's no chance of a fade now. I tell him to just give me 1/2" on top and I will be on my way. The moron proceeds to hack the hair on the top of my head down to the same length as the sides; about 1/8". I tell him that he totally messed up my haircut. He tells me that the haircut is free. I gave him $5 and left. Thanks to this dunderhead, I now look like a Neo-Nazi. I told his dumb ass that I wanted 1/2" on top LIKE SIX TIMES. It seems like I am having this type of experience WAY TOO OFTEN these days. It's like people have been hit with a stupid ray or something. If you want some big oaf making you look like a Skinhead, then go here. If not, then STAY AWAY. read more

When I moved to San Francisco, I had a difficult time finding a barber that was reasonably priced and did great work. After getting my haircut by Toni, there is no one else I would let touch my hair. I still make the drive from San Francisco every time I need a haircut. He takes his time and is very meticulous. I can talk to Toni for hours, he is very funny and has great energy. Like alotta guys, I used to think that a "haircut is a haircut is a haircut". I've always been happy with an $8 haircut in Chinatown, or "splurge" at Supercuts... once I even got a haircut at a truckstop. Nobody would ever tell me that it always looked like my mom had cut my hair ... when she was mad at my dad! My partner is much more particular, and I always scoffed at him spending so much more than I did for to get a regular guy's haircut, but OK, I'm a convert! He kidnapped me one day and took me to his stylist Tony, at A&T Salon, right here in San Rafael! For decades I have always dealt with my cowlicks by lopping them off, but now Tony works some magic and I'm all stylish for the next 6 weeks. Happy me! Now I get compliments like, "You don't look terrible, anymore." Thanks, Tony! I noticed each time I'm there that Anna, too, has a dedicated following of her own. A&T Salon is clean and fresh, there's low background music, and new comfortable chairs for waiting your turn. "Next!" There's a fresh scent in the room, not that brain-splitting chemical smell you find at other places. This is a comfortable hometown, family business with a personal touch. It's nice to get away from corporate America for something as personal as this. A&T Salon is the perfect combination of Salon and Barber Shop. It's not foo-foo, not macho, just kinda homey. Actually, for a salon, it was interesting to see that, when I was there, there were mostly guys getting Saturday morning haircuts. Now I actually look forward to getting my haircut. I've been having my hair cut by BOTH Anna and Tony for the past 2+ years (at another shop) - they always do a great job and my wife is especially pleased with my styling every time I get a trim. Over the past few weeks, they have opened their own shop, making themselves more available and able to spend more quality time on each customer. I am very pleased! I was a little worried about the parking, but it couldn't be closer - right next door on the east side of the shop. Many spots were available when I visited mid-day Friday. Their prices have remained very reasonable considering they have gone into business for themselves. Definitely worth a try if you haven't seen either of them before! read more
