550 #20/2022 CASH ONLY This Middlebury location is the last A&W in VT and one of three left in the NE. +. Ambiance is throw back roadside drive-in. The carhops used to wear roller skates but they no longer do...not sure if it's a Covid casualty. Customers are to stay in the car and wait for service. +. Food-wise, we occasionally come here for their root beer and RB float, onion rings and sundaes. Their RB no longer has HFCS :-). But they didn't offer creamies on this visit. Their onion rings and RB and floats were delicious! But their sundae was too hard and was just okay. They so offer burgers and fries. =. Price is more than what you expect at a fast food resto. We tipped $5 to our carhop which typically one doesn't at a fast food stops. CASH ONLY! + Service is prompt but not consistent. They are pretty quick to come by to to greet you but our carhop didn't check back on us after delivering the food until one of us got out of the car. This is a nostalgic stop and a disappearing Americana.

The only A&W in Vermont. You can park, then order and eat in your car or they have picnic tables where a sever can take your order and then bring it to you. People might think the service is a little slow, but that's because they're usually really busy. The building and decor probably hasn't changed much in the last 40 years. They have a variety of hotdog or hamburger baskets. They also have some delicious choices from the fryer like shrimp or chicken baskets. I enjoyed a double bacon cheeseburger. They only take cash or check. They do have a ATM on site. It definitely takes you back to another time in the fast food industry. Highly recommended as a great stop during the leaf peeping season.

Stopped by for a treat, in particular, a root beer float. C'mon, how can you not like this?! Distinctive root beer and a generous portion of vanilla ice cream. An American Classic. You still get to drive in and get served at your car. Very good service when we visited, by the way. Worth a trip to this corner of New England.

4 stars for the floats and super sweet service. It's heavy, road trip food, but our kids begged, so we went. Everyone liked their food and the portions are huge. It's a little bit of Americana that we enjoyed on our vacation.

Good food, throwback to a time past. Had burger, sweet potato fries and soda. Food was better than a fast food restaurant.

Super thinly sliced and a big let down. My Middlebury cut was great. For the price of the English cut I should have sent it back. They no longer have the great salad bar, soup station, cheese board or bread station. And Sunday brunch is gone also. The decor and service was great as before. We are not likely going to have it as a destination anymore. Very disappointing indeed. We have been customers for over 15 years and made the long trip because it was so good. Sorry for the poor review but we dine many places and we get much more from other establishments.

Housed in an old…read morefarmhouse just outside of Middlebury, Fire & Ice features locally sourced fresh and natural ingredients in an ambitious menu that will satisfy most palates. The restaurant has been around for more than half a century and has an eclectic decor with walls covered in black and white photos, hundred year old Hackercraft motorboat, biplane propellers, and wooden skis that likely were used to carve up Stowe and Killington. We started with a watermelon margarita and an extra dry Hendricks Gibson up. The drinks were perfectly chilled and hit the spot after a long day touring Fort Ticonderoga. We were told that their prime rib was the belle of the Fire & Ice ball so we made that our dinner. Roasted slowly overnight, the meat is perfectly medium rare inside with a delectable crust. Served with a range of sides and a generous dollop of freshly grated horseradish, we could not have been more pleased with the quality and quantity of the prime rib. They have an interesting dessert cart but, after 40 ounces of delicious prime rib, we gave the sweet course a miss. Fire & Ice is a compelling option for those spending time in Middlebury. We highly recommend this venue.

The menu includes eggs, pancakes, biscuits and gravy and country fried steak. The service was friendly and efficient. The food was decent. I ordered the platter with biscuits and gravy, eggs and potatoes. I asked them to hold the toast that comes with platter. I'm not certain why they offer toast with biscuits and gravy. It seems like a lot of bread. My husband ordered the chicken fried steak. We enjoyed our meals but thought it wasn't a must go to place. If you are in the area and want a country breakfast Rosie's is an option to consider.

While the restaurant was mostly full, we did not have to wait to be seated. Unfortunately they don't serve breakfast after 12 so only lunch/dinner items were available except for a breakfast buffet which the server advised would be available for only another 45 minutes. I looked at the small buffet menu showing what was available on today's buffet: sausage links, bacon, corned beef, sausage gravy, pastries, fruit, French toast sticks, and ham and cheese omelets and since nothing really appealed to any of us we decided we would pass on the buffet however when the server came to get our drink orders she advised us that if we wanted to order off the menu it would take 50 minutes to an hour to get our food. We asked if we got an appetizer in addition to the food if that would at least come out sooner so we could snack on something while we waited but she said probably not so we all went for the buffet. I so wished I hadn't. The sausage links and bacon were to be expected but the corned beef hash was definitely the canned variety that looks more like cat food than human food and since it wasn't cooked crisp, it was just a soggy mess. The fruit was the standard cantalope and melon but weren't really very flavor able. The sausage gravy was decent and had lots of sausage in it but the biscuits were small, cold, and hard. I'm not an omelette person usually but this one was kind of strange. Instead of small individual omelettes, they were large rolled or possibly folded eggs, with diced ham and melted cheddar then sliced in sections so it kind of resembled a Stromboli bread with eggs instead of bread and judging by by the consistency and texture, the eggs must be pre-mixed eggs in a carton. I was not a fan. The French toast sticks were ok. Nothing great but it the worst item on the Buffett. The one really good item on the buffet was the blueberry muffin. Which was packed full of large, real blueberries. I ate two of those. Service was ok, our server was nice and polite and refilled our drinks when we asked but the cashier had little or no personality. He never asked how our meal was or said have a great day or even said thank you.
