Short: Quick,hot, flavourful, and comforting. The freshly made root beer and floats is why you come here! Visited late July '22. My friend and I were driving through Sweet Home to see some lakes and nature. I have been wanting a root beer float from A&W since the summer started, so I was happy to see one. It has a drive-in and a lobby. With the drive-in, the menu and buttons to order or send back the car tray are very clear. I ordered a large root beer float, corn dog nuggets (5pc), a hot dog, and cheese curds (reg). I really love A&W for their root beer floats with vanilla soft serve, and their wisconsin white cheddar cheese curds! My whole order totaled around $15. The root beer float arrived in a waxed large to go cup, understandable. It was pretty heavy and the soft serve was about 60% filling the container, which I think is plenty and I was very happy about that. The soft serve hit the spot on the hot day. The root beer, wow! I don't usually drink sodas, but you really could taste that freshness in A&W's root beer, pretty crafty. The cheese curds were seriously cheddar cheesy, and they weren't heavy on the oil, which I appreciate. I don't like when fast food is too oily, because that just makes you feel more heavy and worse. A regular box serving is good for a cheesy person, but I regret not getting a large serving. Since I really can't think of anywhere else that sells cheese curds like A&W. Corn dog nuggets weren't beef. I think they were turkey or some chicken? But they were somewhat crispy on the outside and had a good slight grittiness from the cornmeal of the batter. Though, they did get a little soggy on one side, because I let them sit in their bag for a bit. I think these are great for kids, or for someone like me that doesn't really like a stick in the middle of our dog. The hot dog was beef and had an almost crisp outer skin and the bun looked a little different but not so different from what you could buy at the store. It was a pretty solid dog, good quality of beef, and it was about $2. The order may have took about 5-8 mins to arrive, I arrived around 4:30pm, and there were at least 4 other cars besides my own,so I think service was pretty quick. I definitely will be visiting again! I just love A&W's root beer floats and cheese curds too much to go without them as long as I did! read more

A & W restaurants are the iconic home of the "frosty mugs," of ice cold root beer! I remember going there as a child where they would take your order over a speaker and carhops delivered it on red trays that would hook on your window. At least, that's how I remember it. This A & W looks just like they did in back then with the orange sloped roof. Worth the drive to just see it! A & W mugs were thick glass and would be kept in the freezer until filled with A&W Root Beer before they were served to customers. I prefer the regular but others prefer the root beer float with a scoop of vanilla ice cream in the root beer. My first sip of root beer (unfortunately covid to-go in regular wax cup) was delightful! The root beer alone is worth going to A & W but they, also, have really good burgers, fries and onion rings! This restaurant also has fried Sriracha Cheese Curds and other tasty treats. I definitely recommend this A & W and will go back any time I'm in the Sweet Home area. If you want to take a trip down memory lane or taste a slice of history, make the drive to this A & W! read more

Very polite employees. The atmosphere reminds me of old diners that I would always learn about in school. Eating at modern location is nice, but visiting a restaurant that never needs to modernize is a lovely sight to see. read more

My husband and I stopped here while passing through on our way home from Bend, OR. We don't see these around much anymore...reminded us of our childhood :-D We parked and ordered from the drive up menu. There's a button on the menu board you push when you're ready to order. There's also a switch you flick when you're ready for your tray to be picked up! It was such a fun experience! The staff and service made it even more enjoyable...so helpful, friendly and prompt! Most of them looked high school aged, so I was pleasantly surprised at the exceptional customer service. We ordered the original bacon cheeseburger, fries, chili cheese coney dog, onion rings with papa's spicy sauce and a chocolate shake (real ice-cream). Everything was really good. We especially liked the root beer served in HUGE frosty glass mugs! Didn't think they would bring those out to drive up customers...very cool! I've newly rediscovered A&W soda. Yum! This drive-up, take out, or dine-in restaurant was a happy place to stop. I love that they had one long parking spot open for our RV to wait while I picked up some burgers, chicken strips, fries and cheese curds along with some A&W soda. Everything was classic fast food. Lets be honest - its an A&W! So you pretty much know what you're going to get. Drive up ordering, fantastic burgers, onion rings, frosted root beer mugs, and killer shakes. This place has it all. One of my favorite additions to the menu are the cheese curds - these little fried gems are piping hot and oh so gooey! This is a great place for watching the local color. The servers are exceptionally friendly, and really hustling. TIP: don't sit near the bathroom. I have been coming here for years and it's always been pretty good. You can't go wrong with an A&W Root Beer Float. I love the cole slaw! I like that they have introduced their own small chicken sandwiches which are similar to the Chicken Littles that KFC used to have. The service is always good here. Food quality is above average. Visited 6/26/21 @ 1:15pm-2:05pm Okay. If I could leave zero stars I would. Let me tell you this is not the first time I've had issues here, but definitely the last time. This place should not have franchise rights. Here goes... My girlfriend and I pulled up and ordered (couple of burger combos...nothing special). The lady parked next to us got her order about 15 minutes after we arrived and another car pulled in. As we sat for another 15-20 minutes waiting for our order the car next to us got served. We hit the service button and asked how long it would be and they said "about 5-10 more minutes as they were so busy and their wait time was averaging 40 minutes." Seriously? It's freakin fast food?!! We explained that we could have ordered a pizza for delivery and have already received it. No apologies or rectifications came from their end. After another 15 minutes I called the food runner over and asked to talked to her manager. She went inside and came back to say that her manager said "she wouldn't come talk to us because she was too busy." We refused our order and left never to return. It was absolutely appalling to see such disorganization and absolute disregard for customers time. Did I mention that we saw them serve less people than they actually did serve. Vehicles leaving before their food arrived and flat out turning down their orders due to the ridiculous wait. A lot of food went in the trash! We left hungry and drove 10 miles to Lebanon to get A&W, that we had in our mouths in under 5 minutes. Way to go Lebanon A&W! My opinion.....skip the Sweet Home A&W. Absolutely unacceptable! Man, A&W brings back some childhood memories. I was a rootbeer lover as a kid so any time I had the rare chance to go there as a kid I would order a Rootbeer float. It's been many years since I've been back to one, but on a rainy afternoon in Sweet Home there's not a ton to choose from so we settled on burgers. When we walked in we noticed phones at each table. At this A&W they are really trying to give you a unique ordering experience. If you eat inside you have to call the order in over the phone which is pretty funny, kinda cool but also a little icky for the germ-a-phobe in me. I really hope they sanitize those things! Anyways we ordered (being the only table there) and we waited. And waited. And waited. People came in to grab their growlers of Rootbeer, people pulled into the parking lot and ordered at the menus where you can park and eat. Some people picked up to-go orders. We finally asked where our order was and realized immediately that they forgot to make it. I have no idea how that happened since we were the only ones there but they were nice enough to give us our meal 1/2 off. It took way longer than we had planned for but at least the food was decent. The burgers were good and the Rootbeer float was just as delicious as I remember. I'll come back again but I hope the service improves. Even though it's high school aged kids working here there still needs to be a level of awareness and customer service at any establishment. read more

Been there multiple times. Can never seem to get an order correct. Sad because we like the food. Poor management or supervision. I dont know. At least Macdonald's knows what you ordered.
