Excellent service and incredible cake! I reached out to A Bakeshop to make my daughters birthday cake and emailed a design I liked. The cake was so beautiful, pretty turquoise blue rosettes with a subtle hint of glitter and lovely snowflakes, it was picture perfect. And even more importantly the cake was delicious, it was the strawberry and every one commented on how moist and delicious it was. The frosting was also divine! Cute shop! Drove from the West Valley to pick up some sweets based on the reviews. There were very few items left in the case; however, it was the end of the day. Bought a few cupcakes and some cheesecakes. Tasted the Vanilla cupcake and it was less than noteworthy. There was nothing special about it and frankly tasted like box cake. The buttercream was horrible! It was cold, hardened and tasted like salted butter was used. Extremely disappointed! I definately will not be returning!!! read more

I called and ordered cupcakes and a small smash cake for my daughters first birthday. I was a little put-off when I called and ordered. The girl taking my order was not friendly or personable so I was a little worried, as I had never ordered from this bakery before. I even mentioned the cake was going to be for a 1st birthday, she didn't ask if I wanted to personalize it, I think she just wanted to get off the phone asap. That being said, I sent my brother to pick up my order and he told me the staff were all super friendly and helpful so that definitely made up for the ordering experience!!! Now on to the cake..... I stopped by a couple days ago to get cupcakes for a dinner party. I had never been in before, but I drive by it all the time. Parking can be a bit hard, because of the narrowness of the aisle. Aside from that, A Bakeshop was great! The poor girl at the counter probably had to go through the flavors with me (and my indecisiveness) a few times, but ultimately I decided upon: Triple Vanilla; Triple Chocolate; Strawberry; Triple Berry Custard; and Cheesecake. The cupcakes were moist and amazingly delicious! My favorite was the chocolate and the vanilla. They were not overly sweet. My suggestion - create a marble cupcake (half chocolate and half vanilla). I would be happy to taste test it for you. I think you need to create a frequent buyer program. The Triple Berry was everyone's least favorite cupcake. I probably wouldn't get that again. My only complaint was that the girl at the counter helping me used her hands to get the cupcakes out of the display case. Please start using a utensil!!!! Or, at least gloves. read more

Stopped by after reading about this shop on-line. Bought a few things for evening coffee... The PB brownie, couple of cupcakes, oatmeal cream pie, an eclair, a plain brownie and cheesecake bite. The oatmeal cream pie was large, but had a "minty" taste in the cream, hmmm not sure if a fluke. The PB brownie was good - not overly sweet, still something I would not try again. The plain brownie was hard and crispy on the outside (not sure if on purpose) but soft inside - still flavorful. The cheesecake bites & eclair - nothing memorable. The cupcakes is what made this place worth the expense, limited parking & traffic fight to get to. They were delicious, fluffy, light and the two different flavors didn't taste like each other - by that I mean the batter had a distinct flavor. Some of the other cupcakes in the area including in Scottsdale all have the same batter taste - hard to explain, but no matter what flavor you chose they all taste the same, these did not. They tasted like the flavor they were supposed to be. Strawberry tasted like 'strawberry', vanilla tasted just like vanilla and not like the same batter as the strawberry with vanilla, etc. Lets just say they were a hit, and this is a tough crowd to please. The only cons were as stated previously; the parking, the traffic to get into the small shopping mall and the goods were a little pricey - but I will fight traffic, park in back and pay the asking price for these cupcakes because they are good. read more

She offered creative ideas and wanted my wedding cake to truly be one of a kind. We had two flavors for our FIVE tier cake, chocolate salted caramel & lemon raspberry. There are lots and lots of places one can go to in order to find a special birthday cake in the valley. But when it's your Mom's 90th, it has to be special, REALLY special! I am well connected in the valley restaurant arena, but bakeries require a different pallate. I did some research on line and finally decided to go with A Bake Shop based on reviews and proximity to my home. I ordered their Lemon Berry cake . . a lemon cake with raspberry cream filling and cream cheese frosting. I was thrilled with how lovely it looked, and hoped it tasted half as good as it looked. To put it in a nutshell, 20 guests out of 20 guests said it was the best cake they had ever had! Many came back for seconds! When was the last time you saw that? This is a very unassuming shop in a little strip mall but open that door and you have entered a piece of heaven. I love their cupcakes as well - expecially the red velvet and the lemon berry. They are not overly large and actually come in 2 sizes, including a perfect little 2-biter. They make a long list of sweet mini-desserts to order as well. This place is a valley treasure! read more

We had so much trouble finding a baker for our son's wedding. Either they couldn't do what we wanted, or the proprietor was not into customer service, or the goods weren't tasty. A Bakeshop isn't in our area, but my daughter goes there and loves it. So I called. It was a wonderful experience placing the order. Anything I wanted was "of course we can do that". The prices were reasonable and the goods were delicious. The cakes were so moist and the lemon bars and cannolis are to die for. Wow. I was skeptical of yet another bakery in North Central Phoenix, but A Bakeshop is a gem! My husband and I went in on a Saturday morning to pick up cupcakes for our anniversary. First off, the store is adorable and fits in very well with the neighborhood on 16th and Bethany Home. I love that the flavors are nothing crazy. Just give me a damn cupcake! You can tell they use quality ingredients, and I love that you can buy minis or big papa bear cupcakes. Highly recommend the strawberry, peanut butter chocolate, carrot cake, and triple vanilla flavors. Can't wait to go back and try more off the menu! read more

First time I stopped in I just got a sugar and peanut butter cookie. They were so good. Today I met this girl. I never remember a name until the third time. But, her name is Sedona. I have a sweet tooth. I wanted to get an assortment. I started with cookies. She would say "that's my favorite ". Next, the cupcakes "that's my favorite ". I was looking at the slice of cake. White cake with some type of cream and chocolate chips. Of course she said "that's my favorite thing in the whole store". In her defense everything was so good. The cake was the best. I have visited A Bakeshop twice now and absolutely love their delicious treats! The best unfrosted sugar cookies I have ever had and amazingly good ricotta cookies. I have also ordered a slice of the cassata cake on both visits. After the first bite I was immediately hooked on this tender, not overly sweet cake that just melted in my mouth. The size of the slice was big enough to be shared by 2 people, which I reluctantly did with the husband! The second visit when I ordered it again, the size of it was barely enough for one person to enjoy. I hate inconsistency! It was still delicious and I did enjoy it despite the small slice. Why 3 stars you say if I am raving about their amazing goodies? Customer service!!! I have noticed 2 different types of attitudes in local bakeries and it is either they are overly joyous to assist you in gaining 10lbs or they are not really interested in satisfying your sweet tooth in the slightest. Unfortunately A Bakeshop is the latter. The 2 different girls who have helped me at each visit were not really pleasant and I felt like I was annoying them for ordering various items from the bakery case. The people with me also felt like that and stopped their order short because of this. I can say when the owner was helping the girl on my first visit, she was beyond friendly and helpful, so too bad her employees aren't the same. So while I enjoy the amazing desserts at this adorable local bakery, I will be very reluctant to return here because of the unwelcoming customer service attitude. read more

Absolutely amazing! Let me start off by saying it was very difficult to find a bakery that catered to my specific needs (which was the cake needed to be lemon raspberry with fondant) that I did not think would be difficult to fulfill. After calling several bakeries, Urban Cookies (an amazing bakery as well) told me that A Bakeshop would be able to fulfill my needs. When I called, they were very pleasant on the phone and said they would have no problem at all making the desired cake that I needed for my grandparents' renewal of their wedding vows. I went in a few days later and everyone there was very welcoming. The bakery was decorated in beautiful cakes on display and was very cozy. They gave me very specific instructions on how to refrigerate the cake on the few hour drive I was making to deliver this cake. They even suggested that I use flowers from my grandmother's garden to decorate the cake, and instructions on how to do so. The cake was lemon with raspberry filling, and was absolutely DELICIOUS!! I will continue to use A Bakeshop's services and I recommend you do as well. read more

Fantastic bakery. We stumbled across this gem and tasted a sample of desserts from peanut butter cookie, mini key lime pie, mini pumpkin cheesecake and an array of gelato. They were quick to respond to my inquiry, wonderful at making suggestions, offered a service to deliver and set up the treats and the best part - every single treat was absolutely fabulous. Not just good; people said, "best they ever had" kind of yummy. We had at least 8 different types of treats... The macaroons were amazing. The red velvet cake pops - incredible. I recently ordered a cake for my grandmother's birthday and when I went to pick it up the writing was incorrect and the decor was not as promised. I paid $120 for a cake that feeds 12 and expected it to be DELICIOUS for that cost, but was just average. When we asked them to fix the errors they did and I was very happy with the end result, and was told someone would be following up with me about the order. I got the call today and instead of apologizing and thanking me for my order I was met with a list of excuses as to why my order was incorrect from a girl (I assume to be a manager/owner) with next to no customer service skills.
