He started by saying he would not ask for a down payment. Before he left my house he asked for a down payment. I gave it to him. He said he will have a Jessica an interior decorator call me to discuss what I need done. Never heard from this Jessica. I was supposedly have a handicap bathroom. All I got was a handicap door. Never got my Mirror for guest bathroom. Never got my seat in my guest shower. Hand rails are way too big and bulky for my guest shower. And placed incorrectly.Towel rails are right above the toilet. Those need to be re placed with smaller rails. Never came back to finish unpainted door in master bathroom, and fuse box. Needs to come finish caucking around the tile and base trim. We were embarrassed to even have anyone come and see and then someone told me about Ben and his crew. TERRIBLE WORKMANSHIP. Do not hire Ben and his crew. They are so awful. Sloppy work, several mistakes, a 10 day job turned into a nightmare. There's so many things that need to be touched up or redone, we finally just decided to fix the cosmetic stuff ourselves so we didn't have to deal with them anymore. This bathroom reno cost us DOUBLE per square foot than our complete kitchen reno and the work is shoddy at BEST. The really simple things like paint, caulk, etc. it looks like he hired a 5 year old. So terrible. Do yourself a favor and find someone that is actually worth the money they charge. Ben is MIA most of the time, I felt like I was the project manager. He also either had too much going on to pay attention to detail to instruct his team or he doesn't listen, either way unacceptable. He will blame you for any shortcomings. So if you do hire him and his crew, get ready for that. At the end of the day, it's a disappointing $15k guest bathroom. And if you go with him based on his "lifetime warranty" good luck. Very pleased with master bath tear out and rebuild due to a freak water accident with hot water faucet blowing off and sending a geyser of scaulding water to the ceiling and we couldn't get it turned off. The water restoration company after 10 weeks couldn't even give us a start date. We contacted Ben to have our back porch converted to a sunroom. After speaking with other contractors, we felt confident in Ben's knowledge and professionalism to not only build the sunroom we desired, but that he would treat us with integrity and fulfill the terms of the contract. We did our homework and read his reviews on multiple sites, and at time the majority of them were good. Ben has an incredibly talented and professional crew, and our sunroom turned out beautiful. However, the manipulative actions on his part during the process just about broke the bank. About halfway into the job, we were informed of other "issues" that Ben told us would not pass code if not done and that he was "protecting himself." When we expressed concerns about the additional expense that was not in our budget, Ben tried to persuade us to seek other financial means. These so-called "issues" were electrical mentioned by his brother-in-law, Simon, and they should have been noticed by Ben prior to ever starting the job. While we should have contacted the City to verify what we were being told, we trusted Ben as our contractor, only to determine at final inspection by the City that what Ben was stating to be necessary was actually a lie and just a way for him and his brother-in-law to pad the bill. In addition, the permits for construction totaled $296, and Ben presented a permit fee of $1500 with no explanation for the $1204 markup. Ben was a great communicator, but he frequently was not able to keep up with things and was obviously juggling too many jobs at once. He forgot details of the contract multiple times and became sloppy at the end of the project, so much so that he did not even come by the house to thank us for our business. He sent his office assistant, Jessica, to pick up the final payment who unfortunately had to endure our many complaints of being ripped off. She was very understanding and apologetic, stating she was unaware of the situation. I would strongly advise anyone using A Better Home Services to ensure your project is thoroughly checked out prior to proceeding, hold Ben accountable to the contract, and check with the City or another specialist prior to falling for his greedy manipulations. This is just a brief outline of the reasons that we feel taken advantage of. To actually itemize every instance of deception would require a much longer review. read more

This company is AMAZING. I first hired them to do a kitchen remodel but I found out they do much more. Ben gave me 3 options and was considerate and understanding about my budget concerns. New granite countertops, new cabinets, demo'd and raised the ceiling and installed new can lights, and then re-stained my fence, repainted the outside of my house and put up and put up new trim! You get what you pay for. A Better Homes is a top notch contracting company. Ben Sanchez and Jessica Walsh no how to coordinate the work and make sure that it gets done right. The crews that work for them are courteous and trustworthy. My wife and I are working people. Often times we were not able to be home during our three bathroom remodel. These guys would come in to our house when we were not there and get the work done. Not one time did I worry about theft, damage, or the work not getting done right. Ben and Jessica were always prompt and flexible when it came to answering questions, addressing unplanned issues that come up in construction, and offering ideas for a better result. The crews worked hard, often times 6 days a week to get the work done efficiently. They don't take any money from you until after the project begins. Ben is a man of his word and his men are honest. He believes and lives by a gentleman's handshake. He'll do what he says and he guarantees the work. I was going to pass on writing this review, but after looking at the work that this company did to my home is embarrassing. The brick had to be replaced on the side of my 2 story home. Ben arrived and gave me a higher estimate of 2 other companies. I decide to go with Ben because in my experience "you get what you pay for" (most of the time). Making a long story short. The work looked like I did the work. The look as if someone with no brick laying experience tried their best but failed miserably. Ben even came out and inspected after I complained and agreed it needed to be re done. Well they only tore out half of the shotty job and attempted it again. With a different color brick from the first try at it. Shingles were tore up on the roof where bricks were landing on them, gutters dented, downspout ruined and so much spilled mortar on my grass that it died. I even had to get a hammer to break it up after they left. To show that they never fixed the issues Ben gave me a $1500 refund because he knew it looked horrible. GOOD thing that this was not on the front of my home. DO NOT hire this company...terrible workmanship, never know when they will arrive from day to day, trash and debris left all over yard and street, parts of home damaged from neglect and not a care for others property. The tile and other bathroom work done was 5 stars. Excellent! The only incidents come from scheduling issues. Don't always show up at the time they say they will. We still have one thing left to do, which we were told they would take off the bill until they did it. They took it off the bill. Hired Ben to correct a flooding issue in out home, and it was determined that if we built a patio cover it should fix the flooding issue. The cover did stop the water from coming into the house, but when Ben was suppose to come back out to fix the damage inside the house, he was a No Show. He set the date to come out, and instead of showing up he informed us he was on vacation. He said to get with him to set up another day to come out when he was back. Both my wife and I tried to reach him at least 5-7 times in a weeks period, but Ben and his company just disappeared. We had a bathroom remodeled by "A Better Home Services", (ABHS). It looks good, and they seem to have done a thorough job. I guess we will know the quality of their work as time progresses. Some oddities/concerns about the company: -Upon the initial meeting with Ben Sanchez, he advised that his company provides a lifetime warranty on the workmanship, for the entire time that we own the home. He also advised that his company is insured, advised of the payment schedule and indicated he would obtain any needed permits or inspections. However, he only provided a hand-written proposal. It did not address the warranty, insurance, permit or payment plan, and was very vague as to the work to be performed. The proposal was on a template that one might buy at Office Depot, it did not have his company's name printed on it...everything was handwritten. The night before the work was to begin, I inquired about a contract, that spelled out the before mentioned items. Ben advised that he does business on the "honor system", and uses the handwritten proposal as the contract. He said he would be willing to handwrite the other information on the proposal. So, I googled contract verbiage and printed up my own addendum to his proposal/contract. He reluctantly signed it, only after I refused to move forward without his signature. He said he would provide a copy of his proof of insurance, but never did. However, the addendum that I had him sign, certified that he was insured. -An immediate problem with the vague contract/proposal, was that we had agreed verbally, that there we would be a row of decorative tile in the shower, and we had even picked that tile out. However, when I inquired at a later time, Ben said no, that had not been figured into the price, and had not been included in his proposal. I pointed out that other points were not spelled out in the proposal either, and after some arguing, Ben reluctantly agreed to include the decorative tile. -Once the old bathroom was torn out, the "charges" for the unexpected were exorbitant. A Better Home Services charged $275.00 to replace a $5.00 p-trap, which took the plumber 10 minutes to change. ABHS charged $950.00 to replace the sub-floor in the bathroom, because a portion had rotted. And, ABHS charged $800.00 to replace two 8 foot sections of 2X4 that had some mold, (the quote included replacing some drywall in this area, but they did not replace it). These charges seem excessive, but once the bathroom was gutted, we felt we had no other option but to move forward and Ben would not negotiate on the price any further. -ABHS charged $1000.00 to paint the walls in the 150 square foot bathroom, which also seems expensive. They sprayed the paint on, and used 5 workers to do this task. They began painting before the tile work was completed, only to have further dust, fingerprints and scrapes that had to be repainted. In addition, we had to ask three times to have the wall smoothed out, and texturized where old fixtures had hung, etc... -ABHS did not begin working each day until 11 A.M. Yes, that's right, for two weeks in a row, they did not begin their day until 11 A.M.!!! This is problematic for those of us who are employed, and have to take time off from work to be there during construction....each morning was wasted, just waiting for them to arrive. One day they were only at my house for two hours....most other days only 4-6 hours. Nevertheless, I had to take 8 hours of vacation to be at the house for their 2 hours of work. In addition, there were different crews that performed different portions of the project; one crew did the tear-out, another the plumbing and electrical, and another the painting. The first crew would arrive at 11 A.M., they would complete their portion by 3-4 in the afternoon ...but, by that time, it was too late for the next crew to start on their part. So, the next crew would not begin until the following day at 11 A.M. And, again, when they completed their portion in a few hours...it was too late for the other crew to come back....and, so on and so on. Point being... if they began their day earlier, the first crew could be done by noon, and the second crew could work in the afternoon. The project could have been completed in half as many days, if the crews began their day earlier and worked full 8 hour days. (my assumption is that ABHS juggles several projects simultaneously, using the same crews at the same time, on different remodels, so none of us get full time workers....but, ABHS gets paid by multiple homeowners at the same time). -Of the 10 or so total workers, only two spoke English, making it difficult to communicate directly with the workers. Run fast, run far. They rebuilt my shower years back, insisting that they had to rip it all out and rebuild to guarantee my leaky shower was going to be fixed right. Turned out it was just a leaky shower head pipe but oh well. They rebuilt the shower and we started getting noticeable leaks after about 8 months. They told me it was my problem. We lived with this for ages and finally bit the bullet and had it completely redone again. Turns out the pan was done completely wrong. They didn't do the liner right and the slope was bad causing leaks in the corners of the pan. They also used way too much cement and screwed up the drain. So if you like overselling and shoddy workmanship, these are your guys. read more
