Recently, I needed a tow and the driver showed up on time. However, from the second the tow truck arrived until he dropped off my car all he did was try to convince me to take my car to his friend's shop in Paramount. He even called his friend to tell him the make, year and model of the car he was bringing him without even asking me if it was alright. Then when I said I wanted the car brought to my home he gave me every reason in the book why this was a bad idea. Insurance will take longer, I'll get fined, this isn't the way to do it etc etc etc. Then when he loaded the car on the tow truck he did more damage to the body. I called him out on it and he just kept saying never mind that, trust me. I couldn't wait for him to leave. I thought AAA was choosy when sending out tow truck drivers. I guess not. Caring, Responsive, and Professional. Tuesday evening my car broke down on 7th street and A Checkered Towing was dispatched by AAA. I waited 30 minutes and Claudio was on scene. Claudio provided excellent customer service and was extremely professional. He made me feel safe and addressed my vehicle concerns. They ended up towing my car to the shop, which was free and also offered a free estimate. Claudio also mentioned if I was not happy with the estimate, they would tow my car for free with a 7 mile limit. At the shop I worked with Manny. Manny was extremely patient, friendly and very responsive. They provided me a fair quote the following morning and fixed my vehicle within the same day. When he was unable to jumpstart my vehicle, he said he'd tow it to a AAA-approved facility & that the main guy at the shop, Manny would take a look at it the next day. Manny called when he was suppose to & told me he was able to take care of the issue with my car. I recently had my custom 1947 Mercury coupe towed off the 710 S bound freeway, it was mid week and around 8:00 so traffic was heavy. When my car was loaded on a flatbed truck and we were heading down the 710 in rush hour traffic. The driver was having a extent conversation with my about my car and was not paying attention to the stopped traffic ahead of us. I at that time YELLED at him to stop. He did stopped inches from hitting the cars in front of us. Also causing all our belongings to fall to the floor of the truck. When we got the car home my car had shifted and damaged my two front fenders folding them in. My car has a custom paint job and was built by Bill Hines. Not a normal car, Now this company will not accept my two estimates that they asked for....WTF...DO NOT USE this company especially if you have a classic car. read more

I have AAA and have gotten service in the past from this business. However they were in my area servicing someone else. Their driver was parked taking up a handicap spot without a proper placard. I asked if he could move so I could park there was told I needed to wait 10 mins while he finished doing what he was doing. I waited. It took more than 10mins still I waited. After finishing the service the customer drove away and left. The driver sat there several mins longer while he took his time loading his stuff into the back of the truck got into the cab and I could see him filling out paperwork and doing whatever else he needed to do while I waited for the handicapped spot he was still illegally occupying. Even tho he was aware I needed and was waiting for the spot. If he was going to illegally park he could have double parked or occupied the red space not occupy the space needed for people with disabilities. read more

Fox/Gary from Checkered Towing came to my location after I called to have my car towed from Long Beach to Orange County. He arrived on time and was really friendly upon our meeting. While hooking up my car to the tow truck, he took great care of my car to make sure he would not scratch or damage my car. I really appreciated his thoughtfulness and professionalism. Once the car was secure and ready to be towed, I told him that I would meet him at my Mechanics in Orange County. Once I arrived at my Mechanic, Gary showed up about 2 minutes after me. Called AAA, they called A Checkered Towing to handle a problem I had. I was given a 35-45 minute wait time by AAA. A few minutes later I get a call from A Checkered and a very nice and professional young lady verified I called and asked a few questions. When she concluded her information gathering, she gave me a 10-15 minute wait time. 8 minutes later the technician arrived, handled his business and was gone within 4 minutes!! Now that's service. The only disservice done was my not remembering the appropriate names to give specific credit to. One of their flat bed tow trucks has been parked in the middle of 4th street, Diesel engine roaring, windows down, radio blasting with the driver no where to be seen for the last 30+ minutes. There are no stranded cars on the block. No flashing hazards. Why is he here?! If I could give these guys more than 5 stars I totally would. I returned from an 8 day vacation last weekend to a dead car. I called AAA and they sent someone out to jump the battery. I had just put a new battery in it three weeks earlier and the dealer who did the work told me at the time that the alternator and everything else in the charging system was working fine. The guy who jumped the battery did a test and said he suspected the alternator needed to be replaced. I was facing a 500 mile drive home and knew I couldn't do it like that so I started calling around to find a place who could fix it on a Saturday. In the meantime, battery dude leaves and the tow guys come. When they get there they convinced me to let them tow it to their shop first so they could slow charge the battery and do some more tests. I went along with them and I'm so glad I did. Turns out it was just the battery and the slow charge fixed everything. Their expertise saved me $650 and a lot of hassle. They were compassionate, patient, and made me feel safe (alone with my daughter) and comfortable the whole time. These guys are angels on earth and I am forever grateful that they were sent to me in such a stressful moment. read more

This place is the absolute fucking worst. I apologize for the language. I want to give it zero stars. No, negative stars. Some of the poorest and most disrespectful customer service I have ever witnessed from any public establishment/business ever. Like, ever. I had totaled my car in an accident on the 405 South that wasn't my fault, and after seeing A Checkered Towing was tied to AAA, I decided to have it towed here. Big mistake, huge mistake. My car isn't registered in my name, although I am the sole owner, because it was registered under my father's name. Even though he granted me total ownership, and the insurance for the car was under my name, AND HE CALLED AND SPOKE TO A CHECKERED TOWING ON THE PHONE DIRECTLY, they refused to let me step in the impound lot, let alone LOOK at my car. I had medicine in the car for my three year old daughter, a 500 dollar stroller for my daughter, important credit cards and gas cards, several gifts, important paperwork that needed to be filed the day after I was visiting the A Checkered Towing location, countless personal belongings, and even my prescription glasses I NEEDED TO USE TO DRIVE. After sharing all of this information with them, after they spoke directly to my father about allowing me access to the car, they simply said "Yeah, no. We can't do that. No. Since it's not in your name. Not gonna happen. It's the rules." The most disgusting part of all was how I was treated. My friend witnessed firsthand as the on-site Manager, a large Hispanic woman with the personality of a rattlesnake whose name I unfortunately didn't get but if I did would have reported to the Better Business Bureau, literally belittled and patronized me. The woman laughed in my face! She took my paperwork and took the phone call from my Dad, and literally scoffed. She scoffed! When I told the woman that my Dad lived in Oklahoma, the woman laughed and said "Well he can buy a plane ticket and come here to get the stuff himself." After this unbelievable inconceivable passive aggressive suggestion, they told my Dad he would have to fax a notarized letter to the office allowing me access. They literally held my car hostage until he sent it. The cherry on top was that I was charged 55 dollars for literally coming into their location on a Sunday and stepping foot in the office. Listen, I get it. Rules are rules, regulations are regulations, and you got to do your job, but if your friend has to literally whisper and beg to a mechanic "Hey, is there any way you can just grab the medicine for her baby and her glasses? Please? Please?" behind the Manager's back, something's not right. The mechanic gave us attitude as he came back with my glasses and the wrong medicine. I was flabbergasted they even gave us the stroller. They practically threw it at us because we were clearly such an obvious nuisance for these people. I highly recommend everyone to never, ever, for the love of God, ever, give this business any business. Don't go. There are dozens, HUNDREDS, of better towing options and businesses. Trust me. Listen, I'LL TOW YOUR CAR MYSELF if it means you not putting a cent into these people's pockets. Steer clear. read more

On Monday, January 9th, I thought I'd be a rockstar and put much needed motor oil into my car. Unfortunately, the oil cap slipped from my hand and down to the abyss of my engine. I heard a thud sound and hoped the cap hit the plastic panel under the car. In effort not to break out in a panic, I called AAA. I explained the situation. Chris from Checkered Towing came out to assess the situation. Chris was professional. He listened to my situation and did the routine overview of looking into my engine for the oil cap with a flashlight. Chris used a jack to lift my car and unscrew the plastic panel. Once he did, thankfully the oil cap fell out. Chris approached my stressful situation calmly and was my life savor. The reality is the situation could have been costly and drawn out.
