February 15, 2026 - I got the breakfast with egg, ham, home fries and bread. It was a really good breakfast. Nothing special, but no complaints. Standard breakfast meal.

Went here with a few friends, honestly super disappointed... The service wasn't good, the servers were literally sitting at a table. For the amount of money i paid, i expected some decent food, but was super disappointed when the food not only didn't look appetizing but it tasted really bland. Surprising the strawberry waffle tasted great, with it not being too overwhelmingly sweet and a good balance of strawberries and ice cream.

I found this cafe to be such a chill and tranquil spot. Their coffee, brunch, waffles, crepes, and pasta were all fantastic! Definitely worth a visit!

Came here for lunch today, would give it a 3.5 star but I rounded up to 4 since there are no half points. Place is nice and spacious, felt clean. There are games at the side if you want to stay and hang out at the cafe and play a few games with friends. Food came out pretty quickly. We ordered 2 dishes. Chicken and waffles and the mushroom and bacon Benny. Starting with the chicken and waffles, waffles were okay but could have used something, maybe could have been a bit crunchier or with some kind of flavour or twist. The chicken, which is the star of the dish was very good. Seasoned and cooked beautifully, very juicy and nice crispy skin. It comes with salad, which in all honestly seems like those grocery tubs which they put a light dressing. (There was barely any dressing and it felt like you were just eating rabbit food). The mushroom and bacon Benny had great flavour. A very nice sauce and those mushrooms were really good. It comes with the same salad I reviewed in the first dish (blah) and some fries. The fries were okay, but it is definately the frozen ones similar to Costco breaded fries if that is what you are into. Service was fine as the food came quick, would have been nice though if someone at least came to check on you as the place wasn't that busy. I could have used more dressing for the salad. Overall it's a good option and the price point is pretty fair. I don't recall a menu item over $20 I would go again and try some of the other eggs Benny dishes, but hopefully they can do better with the salad

Super cute little breakfast/brunch place! It was so adorable inside and had a wall full of board games you could grab and play for free. Service was amazing and our waitress was very nice! The layout of some of the tables were odd as it was one long table but multiple parties were seated at the same table. Might be awkward if you sit next to someone you don't know. Food: - Matcha: 4/5 stars. Im not a big matcha person but this matcha was good. It wasn't too sweet and the colour was beautiful. They also added cute coffee art ! So adorable - Broccoli Cheddar Soup: 3.5/5 stars. I didn't think it was anything special and for the price of it, I thought the portion would be bigger. It was more creamy than cheddary. Could have used slightly more flavour from both the broccoli and the cheddar. - Smoked Salmon Eggs Benedict: 3.5/5 stars. I've had better eggs Benedict. The bread it came on was not toasted which surprised me. I ordered hollandaise sauce on the side and added it to my eggs benny. Personally, it lacked in flavour and I had to add a lot of salt to have some flavour. The fries were really good though. Overall, nice cute place! We played jenga while we were there. The overall place was very aesthetic and the presentation of the food was beautiful but I don't think the price is justifiable for the portion side and taste.

The drinks are fantastic, but that's where the compliments stop. The servers are a bit nonchalant and half-attentive. The actual food is underwhelming at best. The condensed milk toast was decent, but the eggs benny was borderline edible. Everything except the costco fries was bland with no seasoning. The pulled beef benny was probably the worst eggs benny I've ever had. The poached egg was not runny. It was cooked to hard boiled. When I asked for a new runny egg, they kindly made me a new one but it was still overcooked. The server did ask if I wanted them to make me another, but I declined since it wouldn't have saved the dish anyways. The beef had no taste, the egg had no taste, the hollandaise had no taste, the bread had no taste. I could somewhat taste the herbs and spices in the beef stew but without any salt it was just a mushy mess that tasted like water. Even after adding salt and pepper it could not save the dish. There was just barely any flavour or seasoning on anything. It's kind of cool that they have board games, but I wouldn't come back here for brunch if that's the quality of food they put out. The place was also half empty at noon on a weekend if that says anything...

Love the board games, decoration is cozy, weekend is always full, so come earlier to avoid long line up Food is very fresh, seasoned very well One of my favourite brunch spot.

Came here and ordered two of their hojicha lattes. Could definitely taste the matcha in it, the drink was on point. Would certainly want to come back to try their waffles.

I was looking forward to brunch here because their menu seemed diverse, and I remember enjoying their dessert waffles a few years ago. Overall, my experience here was alright. Starting with the Vietnamese latte, I expected a stronger, more full-bodied roast that packed a punch, similar to traditional Vietnamese coffee. Vietnamese coffee is paired with condensed milk, so the strength of the coffee flavour needs to balance out the sweetness of the milk. However, what I ended up getting was just a very sweet latte, so that was disappointing. In terms of food, the standout was the crispiness and seasoning of the fried chicken. No thick batter, just all crunch. I wish the omelette and waffles were just as amazing, but they were just "ok". I found the waffles a bit dry, even with syrup. Service was fine, but it wasn't particularly attentive or warm. The layout and decor of the cafe is nice though with booth seating and a long shared table in the centre.

It's been a while since I've been here (last time was pre-covid). Came here for brunch on a weekend and it was busy. Waited around 10 minutes for a table. I noticed the game boards and kids toys on the shelf to the side of the wall - a great idea, especially to keep little ones occupied. I ordered the Chicken and Waffles and hubby ordered the Pork Bowl. Pork bowl was flavourful, waffles were crunchy but the chicken had more batter than meat. Price point is pretty reasonable for the portion given. Note: the washroom was disgusting. Definitely need to be more on top on maintaining it. Would I come again? Yes - they have a pretty large menu so I'd like to come back again to try other items.

A nice option to meet up with some friends. The restaurant is quite big and spacious inside and they have a good selection of board games that you can play. They do have a sign on the tables that say that during rush hour they may limit your seating to 1 hour, which is definitely not enough time to start a game. However, despite coming on a Sunday lunch time we never got rushed to leave which was nice. Food wise, it was decent. I ordered the smoked salmon benny, which came with fries and salad. The salad was nicely dressed with a light vinaigrette and the fries were really crispy. The eggs themself was soft and runny but I wish they paired it on a different bread, as the toast was really hard and was difficult to cut. Nothing else bad I can say about this dish but it wasn't quite a wow dish. Price wise it was compariable to other brunch places, and I thought was fair considering they did include a quite a few pieces of smoked salmon and I was really full afterwards. Overall, I would definitely consider coming back. I'd love to try their other dishes and play some games!

This is a nice place to have a gathering with friends. The cafe is quite spacious inside with a large table in the middle . I like the tables are spacious . They have lots of board games selection for you to choose from, and I saw some baby toys too which is nice to have for those with young kids/toddlers. The food are reasonable priced. We ordered the mix fruit crepes, the Vietnamese latte, and also the sweet potatoe fries . I thought the viet latte was tasty, and really enjoyed it. My daughter loved the crepes , and sweet potatoes fries was perfect to munch on while doing some work. There is free wifi for use, and it works.

We came for an early brunch on a weekday. There was only one other occupied table when we arrived, but by the time we left, there were a couple other occupied tables. There's booth seating on one side of the restaurant, a large communal table in the centre, and small tables on the other side. There are two shelves filled with a plethora of board games. The menu is quite large and comprises dishes like beef chilli, rice bowls, pasta, pancakes, snacks, spring rolls, waffles or crepes, omelettes, toasts, breakfast, and egg Benedict. The drink menu is quite extensive as well. Currently, there are drink specials on weekdays. We ordered chicken and waffles, a pork bowl, coffee, and a strawberry matcha latte. The chicken and waffles come with large pieces of chicken. The chicken was fried so well. The pork bowl was filled with toppings and very tasty. The coffee was disappointing, though; it was weak and watery. The matcha latte, on the other hand, was much better. I loved the strawberry bites included in it.

Atmosphere and view were great since it was sitting on Toogood Pond. Inside was really cute too. Tables, chairs, and even the booster were clean. Zero complaints! The only thing is the washroom is the public park washroom so it's not the prettiest and cleanest; there were some bugs and some smell. In terms of the menu, there aren't a lot of choices for pasta but it makes sense since it is a bistro. Ordered the Mortadella & Burrata and Tagliatelle al Ragu. Both were really delicious and the pasta tasted fresh even though we don't know if it's fresh pasta. Had a really good experience here and would definitely come back! La Fonte sits on one of the most enviable pieces of restaurant real estate in Unionville. Perched beside Toogood Pond, with a patio facing west, it offers the kind of sunset view that would make a mediocre sandwich taste profound. If you're taking an evening stroll around the pond, there is essentially one place to stop, sit, sip a cappuccino, and watch the day disappear. La Fonte knows this. And perhaps that's the problem. On a cool evening, we approached the mostly empty patio with modest ambitions. No elaborate dinner. No special requests. Just coffee, a couple of treats, and a front-row seat to one of the best sunsets in Markham. The greeting? "Do you have a reservation?" No. Reasonable question. What followed was less reasonable. Instead of the traditional hospitality playbook--"Welcome, let me see what I can do"--we were informed they were busy - did I mention the empty patio? And immediately questioned about whether we intended to order food - what does what we intend to order matter if a seat can be made available? We did say we would like a seat on the deck/patio. We explained that it was our first visit and, not being blessed with psychic powers, we had no idea what they served. Snarky attitude in check - with pleasantries exiting the oral interface. A menu was handed to us and we were instructed to step aside and review it. Step aside....???!!!??? As if there were crowds of eager diners stacked ten deep behind us... There was nobody. Not a single soul waiting for a table. No line. No rush. No visible crisis requiring crowd-control measures. Just an oddly defensive interaction taking place on a mostly empty patio overlooking a beautiful pond. The conversation somehow became more absurd from there. Every answer seemed to generate another hurdle, another question, another subtle suggestion that perhaps our presence was creating administrative difficulties. Eventually, we did what any rational person does when hospitality turns into a bureaucratic exercise: we left. The funny part came later. Walking around to the opposite side of Toogood Pond, we could clearly see people casually strolling onto the patio and taking seats. No interrogation. No menu review committee. No apparent examination of intent. Just people walking on past the gatekeeper and sitting down. Which naturally raises the question: Is the secret to dining at La Fonte simply to ignore the front-of-house operation altogether? Not that we'd ever do that. Most of us were raised to believe civility matters. You wait to be seated. You speak politely. You respect the establishment's process. But La Fonte provided a fascinating case study in how that social contract can break down. Because when courtesy is met with indifference, and curiosity is met with suspicion, one begins to wonder whether good manners are simply putting oneself at a competitive disadvantage. The tragedy is that none of this has anything to do with the food. The kitchen may be wonderful. The coffee may be excellent. The patio is unquestionably spectacular. The problem is that the first course served at any restaurant isn't food. It's hospitality. Perhaps what seems to be nepotism at the gates is not the best hiring practice. And on this evening, La Fonte managed to take one of the most beautiful dining locations in Unionville and make it feel strangely unwelcome. That's a remarkable achievement, though probably not the one they were aiming for. Carpe diem, indeed. Just don't expect anyone at the front door to help you seize it. JEERS!!!

That level of care really comes through in the cup; you can taste the depth and intentionality in every sip. I ordered the vanilla bean iced latte, and it was easily one of the best espresso bases I've had in a while. The shot itself was rich and layered: deep, chocolatey, and nutty striking a really nice balance between bitterness and acidity. It finished with a smooth, almost creamy note that made the whole drink incredibly enjoyable. The only downside is the size-to-price ratio. At around CAD $8.50 for what felt like a 10 oz drink, it's definitely on the pricier side for something that goes down this easily. Still, I'd absolutely come back when I'm in the mood for a more premium coffee experience. (Funny note - the barista and I had a small rant together about how people order "iced cappuccino" and macchiato expecting Starbucks milk sugary drink instead of the "proper" shot with dollop of foam. I understand their pain hahah)

My cousin and I arrived shortly after opening on New Year's Eve. The cafe has a small interior with minimal seating, mostly bench seating along the wall with small round coffee tables. Even though there was only one barista working that morning, she was efficient at taking orders and making drinks despite several orders happening at once. We did not feel like we were waiting very long. I ordered a pour-over with the Finca El Paraiso Peach Colombian beans, which use a thermal shock washed process. That was something I had not heard of before. The tasting notes listed nectarine, tropical fruit, and caramel, and it was recommended since I was looking for something more out of the ordinary. I enjoyed the wilder flavor profile, but it was hard to fully appreciate because the coffee tasted overly diluted. The barista mentioned she used a 15g to 250g bean-to-water ratio, which is higher than how I normally enjoy my pour-overs. My cousin ordered a flat white with whole milk that was very creamy with strong espresso notes. We also ordered a matcha latte for my other cousin, which was apparently too creamy. Overall, the beans themselves were good, but the pour-over leaned watery for my personal preference. The bag of beans used for the pour-over was priced at $32, which is only a bit more than double the cost of the pour-over itself. In hindsight, I felt slightly ripped off and should have just bought the beans instead.

I bought a couple of buns as a customer since then and I'm hooked! Bun Appetit is located at Commerce Gate. It's located closer to Highway 7. It's around the corner from Kinton Ramen, which I have been to a handful of times during the pandemic to pick up good eats. I found a parking spot steps away from Bun Appetit on a Wednesday evening at around 6:15 pm and backed in to it. It's easier to find parking when it's a weekday, in the afternoon. Bun Appetit's breads are naturally fermented for 168 hours. I liked that all buns and breads are gut-friendly and low on the glycemic index. I'm always interested in lower sugar options. I have sampled these items: - Baguette - Whole wheat walnut vegan bun - Lychee bun - Raisin earl grey bun - Oreo chocolate delight bun - Matcha pistachio pretzel - Whole wheat German pretzel - Yeast loaf with Nutella They were all delicious. They were soft and airy. My favourites were the whole wheat walnut vegan bun and the Oreo chocolate delight bun (also known as the messy hands bun). The former had whole walnuts that were so crunchy and fresh. The bread was chewy and soft. The messy hands bun used dark chocolate. It was also fluffy and soft. It lived up to its name. I had messy fingers just eating a morsel! It has 9 g of sugar, which is practically nothing being fermented. I liked how unique the flavours were. I loved the smell of the lychee bun. I wish it had lychee pieces in it. Instead, it was wine-infused and that flavour overpowered everything. I loved the yeast loaf with Nutella as a dessert option. I nearly picked up a loaf after this event was over! As a parting snack, I got the truffle mushroom one. It was the last one. I love mushrooms. It was super delicious with truffle oil, enoki mushrooms, spinach, garlic, and melted cheeses on top. The bun was soft and perfect. It was such a gourmet bun. I have since returned to get more buns: - Strawberry beetroot - Chocolate arancia The strawberry beetroot bun was fluffy. I decided to cut it in half. To my surprise and joy, it had whole strawberries in it. Wow and yay! I love fruit, but I wasn't expecting so much of it in this bun. I loved it. It was naturally sweet from the strawberries. The beetroot wasn't noticeable in flavour. I feel it added colour to the triangular bun more than anything. The chocolate arancia was equally as unique slicing it in half. This bun had candied orange bits in it. It tasted so good with the chocolate morsels on top and the subtle chocolate flavour in the bun itself. It was delicious. I need to return for more. I have found the buns of my dreams, which sounds odd and funny. It's all true! I paid with a credit card. You can register your phone number to collect points towards goodies. I'll be back. (185)
