My call was answered by Cheryl (I believe that was her name...if not I apologize in advance). She was so courteous and helpful. Instead of taking my name and telling me someone will call me back. She actually took the time to walk me through some of the common problems so that I can troubleshoot. Once we figured out that the issue will need professional help she got me on the calendar as soon as possible. I was scheduled with Lou A. He was super communicative prior to the appointment. Once here, he quickly diagnosed that the problem was the capacitor and got the ac working in no time. Despite having a jammed schedule he did not make me feel rushed and answered all my questions. Their fees were fair and not one of those big companies where they will nickel and dime you for every little thing they do. The guys did a great job installing the hvac unit. The thing I don't understand and am disappointed in is that they did not ask to replace the flexible duct hoses (the silver tubes that carry the cold air to each room in your home). I replaced them myself a year later and they were all 20-25 years old, deteriorating and had mold throughout them. I hired them to install 2 high efficiency ductless air conditioning units in my home and they were simply exceptional. I am personally in the plumbing field and their work was beautiful. But besides that, I really appreciated that they answered the phone, provided an estimate promptly, showed up when they said they would, were polite and took care of my home. It feels like that should be expected, but I guess not from dealing with contractors in general. I left them alone in my home because I had to go to work and when I came home it was cool!! My husband and I just got our new AC system installed this week. We got a few estimates but decided to go with A Degree Above because of their reviews and one past experience. I remember Matt Dickson was the technician that serviced our Peerless boiler for the fall maintenance 7 months ago. He was also very professional and kept everything clean when he was finished. For the AC project, we were pleasantly surprised the technicians brought their own tarps and cloth to cover the carpet and stairs. We didn't even have to give any of them our "booties" as they each brought their own. We were also surprised and happy that they sent over 4 technicians (Paul, Nick, Nick S., and Matt). They divided and conquered, working quickly and efficiently. We have had friends who used other contractors, sending only sent 2 people who work the entire day (10+ hours) on the job. Not only is this a waste of the homeowner's time, I'm sure having 2 workers working long hours is a bit overwhelming for them...which will decrease their quality of work. To be honest, we are newer homeowners, and we know little about heating and cooling systems. We honestly do not know whether they did a good job or not (technically speaking)....whether they took shortcuts or not. However, based on their attention to detail for "the little things" (setting down tarps, using booties, cleaning up after the job is done, communicate with us in a professional manner) surpasses our expectations, then their attention to detail for the the actual installation of the compressor and air handler will be the same. After the installation, one of the technician took the time to show my husband the duel safety mechanisms installed at the air handler and how to maintain system efficiency by flushing it via the clean out cap. The technician also helped set up our new Nest Thermostat and inputted their vendor code to activate the Nest warranty. Thanks again for sending a crew of competent professionals. Had a great experience with these guys during a routine maintenance call for our central A/C system. In addition to all the usual cleaning and inspecting, Lou (the owner) and his associate actually did some extra work to clean up the ductwork in our attic, which completely fixed the lack of airflow into one of our rooms. HVAC busted during a particularly hot week - these guys were booked more than a week out but took our appointment anyway - letting us know if their guys found themselves at a nearby job with some time to spare they'd squeeze me in. That's exactly what happened - they showed up literally one day later and were delightful to deal with. I was lucky - I only needed a new capacitor but they had managed my expectations the whole time that there was potential that it could have been a lot worse. $200 all-in for these guys to show up within 24 hours - diagnose and correct the problem within (not kidding) 30 minutes - frankly I can not recommend them highly enough. A Degree Above has been servicing my HVAC unit for many years, passed along by the previous owner. They are very solutions focused to make sure they correctly diagnose and resolve issues to 100% satisfaction. My AC unit wasn't working at the start of summer. They recommended I get a 2nd opinion on their diagnosis so they could be assured it was the right fix. A large, well known national company confirmed the diagnosis, but would be charging 4x what A Degree Above would charge. And were trying to scare me into to purchasing an entire new heat pump system that I don't need. A Degree Above put my mind at ease and said my system is totally fine, I just needed a new electrical board and sensor. This is the only company I will ever use to service my HVAC. read more

Total professionals. The previous company came in when my a/c wouldn't work. I watched them supposedly diagnose the problem. The unit wasn't blowing. So he changed the capacitor (. An $ 8.00 part) for which he charged $279.00. My cousin, an A/C tech said they normally charge around $170. Then the fan worked but wasn't blowing cold. So he said the compressor needed changing (an additional $550.) Now he didn't even hook up gauges to check the Freon level. So I told him to leave. In comes A Degree Above. Lou! He checked the entire system, thermostat, the compressor, and the air handler and of course the Freon level which, it turns out, was low. So he refilled the system and changed my thermostat. He was here at least two hours, wouldn't accept a tip and the entire charge was under $200. These guys are a godsend. Use them, you will not be sorry. Honest, dependable and affordable. We had an issue with a previous company that will remain nameless. They refused to take responsibility for an incomplete/ careless job. They put in a condensate line but left it at the edge inside the attic so the water just dripped down the siding and onto the concrete causing damage (among other issues). I found A Degree Above heating and cooling on yelp with over 80- 5 star reviews. They were polite, knowledgeable, allowed me to ask questions, they took before and after photos (which I now know is a very good sign of a company that stands behind their work), they even brought their own shoe covers with out me asking. Lou, Matt and Sean went above and beyond my expectations. The ladies in the office were also extremely polite and patient and did not rush me at all. Since I had a bad experience with someone else before I had a lot of questions and concerns that everyone I spoke to in the office and at my house were more than happy to answer. I researched other companies and no one impressed me the way a degree above has. We are very thankful they helped fix the mess we were left with. No one wants to wake up to no heat in the middle of a cold snap. No one would expect the response I got. Just recently having moved to my condo and not knowing what to do or who to call I found an outdated sticker on the side of my furnace and rolled the dice. A couple months ago, upon the discovery of my furnace missing a filter slot, I scrambled high and low to find someone in Bergen county to fix this. I was not having much luck as some had long waiting lists and some don't handle stuff like this. Luckily I came across A Degree Above through yelp(where else?) Lou and Danny were great, they dropped in that day that worked for me to take a look at it even though they were booked that day. They took their time explaining the many options, how the airducts worked and even pointed out how so some pipes of the furnace was not right but it's a easy fix. They were not pushy at all and took extreme care in taking down or measurements. They then told us they'll send us an estimate in a few days after looking into the best option for us. 2019: installed new replacement unit 2021: water leaking from above In between, I have called on several occasions - no one ever picks up the phone. In 2020 my furnace stopped working, called and emailed as an emergency, no one ever got back to me. I called someone else in lieu. If you asked me 3 weeks ago I would have rated them with 5 stars but the truth of the matter is that you can't get a hold of people when you need them. I had my PTAC units serviced back on April 28th. The employee was on time, very pleasant, clean and worked quickly. He told me that two of my units would need to be replaced so I asked him to work up a quote and let me know how much this would cost. No complaints. More then a month later and I still haven't heard a word about my quote. So I call, leave a message, no answer. Call again and get Cheryl (who is wonderful) and she follows up with me for the next two days and gets me my quote. She said that the technician left my paperwork on the owner's desk and forgot about it... great. The quote was pretty high so I told her I would think about it and get back to her. I called back a week later and left a message for Cheryl, no call back. Called again and left a message on the machine, no call back. Left another message with a person and no call back. You get the point... At this point I've called more than I should have too -- I shouldn't have to chase down a company to give them my money. Will have to start looking for another company to help me out with this purchase/installation. read more

They kept the house clean using protective covers for the floors and were all really nice and friendly guys. They even spent some time after installation to give us some tips on optimizing our a/c usage and when to change out the filters.
