This will be the last time I use Total comfort for any service. Over a year ago we had our water tank burst in the middle of the night and at a recommendation of a friend we called Total Comfort. They were able to replace the best day. But, as a result I was duped into entering their preventative maintenance plan. This of course includes a yearly AC maintenance visit. It seems every time they come they find umpteen things wrong with the units and the cost for repairs are unsurprisingly astronomical. I went through this twice already with them. I immediately called a competitor following both visits and had them give a second opinion. Sure enough, I didn't need to do a vast majority of their "recommended" repairs. I feel like we got taken advantage of in an extreme way. Please read everything before booking. Especially as a first-time home owner!! -- -- My fiance and I are first time homeowners. We had called BZ Dependable thinking we were getting the Plumbers our family has used for years. Turns out they were bought out by Total Comfort LLC and we were not notified. So we get a plumber to the house (Glenn) the day of our move in. I was there by myself and had a few things to ask. 1. If we could have a radiator removed in one of our rooms easily. 2. If we could have our water line fixed and ready for the installation of our fridge later that day. Glenn and his assistant came in, looked around and let me know, unprompted that it was "ridiculous" for me to want to take a radiator out of a space for cosmetic reasons. He then kept looking around our basement and looked at our boiler. He said that it was installed completely wrong and that it is leaking carbon monoxide and that if we don't get it COMPLETELY replaced (several thousand $$$), we were going to be sitting in our living room and then just fall asleep and die from "the leak". Naturally it scared the life out of me. He said that our home inspector should get his license taken away because the problem was "so serious." We then moved on to the change out of the plastic water line, to a copper water line. We needed it done that day, so we ended up paying over $800 for that job because we had no other choice. It needed to be installed, that day. After they left, we then called another NJ Certified plumber and our home inspector who both let us know that all of the "issues" that Glenn told us about seemed to be a ploy to get as much money out of us as possible. While the boiler isn't installed in the best way possible, we are not going to die from carbon monoxide poisoning and we definitely do not need to completely change out the entire system. We were also told that the over $800 we paid for the changing out our water line was more than DOUBLE what any other Bergen County Plumber would have charged us. To top EVERYTHING off, when we installed the fridge, the nut on the line was not tightened properly by Glenn and water leaked EVERYWHERE behind our fridge. We were called by the plumbing company to give our feedback and I was honest as I am here and let them know about all the problems, except the leaking as that happened after we spoke. I let them know that we were unhappy and over charged and we were given several excuses and really didn't feel like any accountability was taken. I'm writing all of this to say, as a first time home owner, it appears that a lot of companies will try to take advantage of your naivety and I truly feel this is exactly what happened with Total Comfort Services. read more

A friend highly recommended Total Comfort. I called them just to get an idea of cost and installation details planning to perhaps replace my 22 year old furnace and AC next year. I was not prepared to start the project, but Rob was so professional, knowledgeable and friendly that I was motivated to take the leap. He also showed me how to apply for an interest free loan and get a discount from my utility company. A crew of 4 workers arrived in 3 separate white vans on time. First they put clean canvas tarps to protect my floors and carpet. They were professional, efficient and courteous. I haven't tried the AC yet although it is huge and looks great. The heat is working so efficient that I got a blast of heat (like never before). This company is amazing and a true pleasure to work with. They made everything smooth and easy and I would not hesitate to use them again. I highly recommend them!! read more

HOW TO LOSE A CUSTOMER: Service technician knowledgeable, attentive, and punctual but unfortunately, I can't say the same about the arrogant and unfriendly gentleman at the office. Rudeness is never a good approach when dealing with customers and thinking that because you are booked and busy, and therefore don't need to justify your rates/services is very unacceptable. We all have choices and despite the busy season, I am sure there are other companies I can find where I will be treated with respect and without threats. The ultimate irony is that although I was willing to agree on them doing more work on a leak search, I will not pursue any additional work with this company. Customer service is certainly not a priority for this company, but I am sure they will be ok since they are booked (for now) and can afford to treat customers as disposable. Good luck! read more

I have used TCC for years to service our HVAC. This week the came and replaced our Furnace and AC and installed two Nest thermostats. I cannot say enough about the professionalism and care these guys exhibited. The installation went well. Problems were innovatively solved. The process went very well and the results are excellent. I have two HVAC units in the house, and in 2019 decided to replace both of them. Called Total Comfort to provide recommendations and associated costs. Roger responded promptly and provided alternates, pros and cons for each system, and his recommendations. After we selected the system to use, he set up an appointment for the installation, and performed the installation in a very professional manner. The systems have now been in use, for both heating and cooling, for over a year. We are very happy and satisfied with both units. We also found their service department to be very courteous and professional. John returned the calls promptly, and scheduled the service in a very timely manner. The technicians came for the service on time, and performed the required service. Would definitely recommend them. read more

Nice people but they have no idea what they are doing . I wanted an estimate to repair a unit. They charged me $130 for a service call and fixed nothing. They came back a week later with a proposal for a $7000 unit. I had a different ac company come over the same day and they fixed the whole unit for under $300. Using this company has to be the worst experience of our life!! We had split units installed last April which still don't work!!! They (Roger) NEVER returns phone calls! He came back to my house 3 weeks ago & said there is still a leak in one of the units; and we haven't heard from him since! Shameful! read more

We had a similar circumstance to the other reviews. We have had a service contract for 20+ years with this company. This year we didn't get our annual paperwork in for the renewal on time and instead of letting us know, they charged us full price for a service call. After they were confronted with this, they offered a 10% discount. They charge $260/hour for their service, which covers their "travel time" to go to the store to pick up the part. They charge a diagnostic charge of $130 on the same date of service and then explain it as "first half hour of travel time to the site." We are beyond disappointed with this business. We have been loyal customers and when asked why we weren't called when they didn't receive the annual renewal of our maintenance contract, their response was "we have hundreds of customers and cannot keep track of who does renewals." The work itself is quality, but they have evolved to being way overpriced to the market and not competitive in today's world, where customer service and loyalty is key to success. read more
