He checked our bags but he was extremely unhappy that the kiosk directed us to him. The hubs was a little disappointed when Air France confiscated his carry on bag. In Europe some airlines have strict measurements for carrying on bags. Now let's talk about Customs...OMG...a long line maze repeat of Rome. Why you might ask? It is clearly understaffing. Only this time it was 1.5 hours. AND this is low traveling season. I can only imagine what the summer months are like. I'm greenbelt certified in business process improvement. One easy improvement would be clear delineation of where you need to go with better signage and better stanchion placement. The customs agent keep repeating the same message to each passenger. There's a restaurant downstairs that's open 24 hours but the service was severely lacking and undermanned. Hotel is located on the extreme outskirts of the city but so close to the airport! Perfect for the no frills stay.

When the Parador de Aiguablava came up, he asked me if I minded that this Hotel was a modern building and not a former Castle or Convent. I admitted that this barracks-like alabaster structure was a little boxy. However, when Gayle and I considered the magnificent Costa Brava views, the superb service, and the surrounding beaches and sights, it doesn't get much better than this. In fact, the only compatible Parador experience on this trip were the amazing Mountain views at their facility in Vielha. Gayle would also go as far to say that she would have given up a day in Barcelona to stay here longer. This modern Parador is a superbly located hotel on the Punta D'es Muts and is surrounded by pine trees overlooking the sea. The Parador maximizes its cliff-side perch with large windows everywhere, including the Restaurant/Breakfast Room, Lounge, various sitting rooms, and even the business meeting area. We spent a lot of time on our room balcony just relaxing and taking in the view. There's also an ocean-side Lounge were we did the same over cocktails. The Parador also operates a separate restaurant and beach in a cove below. However, it was October and that was closed for the season. This is also the perfect place to venture out and enjoy the area's beautiful beaches, cliff walks and explore the coves in a gorgeous natural environment.

While we waited for our outgoing flight to depart, we browsed the stores and ate a meal. The Stamp store had a nice selection of souvenirs such as bull figurines, candies, decorated plates, t-shirts, and much more. Other stores sold clothing, accessories, books, toys, etcetera. Restaurants included international chains such as Burger King but also local ones such as Boldu, where we enjoyed cute and tasty donuts. Other resturants served tapas, sushi, chocolates, wines, coffees, etcetera. Overall, I think that this airport terminal had a decent number and variety of stores and restaurants to spend time while we waited for our flight.

For my British Airways flight they would not allow you to check in any earlier than 2 1/2 hours before the flight which is problematic on two fronts. First the port of Barcelona is a major hub for Cruises (that is why we were catching a flight) so arriving first thing with luggage in hand is a typical practice for passengers - so it is baffling that they would not let you access the departure lounge amenities any earlier (at best it's a poor business decision). Secondly the arrivals and check in areas are devoid of any form of said amenities (if you discount a sandwich vending machine and an ATM) and there is minimal seating and only sporadic WiFi connection available to boot. However all of this would have been a mild irritation at the end of a vacation had it not been for the completely unhelpful & rude check-in staff. When they patrolled the check-in line to demand travelers not on the next flight to leave the line I asked if there was anywhere we could go to wait to which the staff member waved a dismissive hand and grumbled "somewhere in the airport). I asked when should I return to the line she said 12:30 (it was 10:50). Given the line was moving at a snails pace we rejoined the line at 11:50, after I returned to the line it took another hour to reach the front of the line (I did get to watch one of the check-in staff rudely argue with a young mother over charging her to check her stroller. The check-in clerk at the desk we were lined up stepped out from behind the desk to announce that you can only check-in 2 1/2 hours before your flight. Following a quick exchange where I attempted to explain we'd been told to come back at 12:30, the Check-in decided it was appropriate to talk to me like a toddler and use her fingers to count back from my flight time of 4:20 and then in a raised voice, as she turned away, told us to leave (we were already in the process of gathering up our luggage).

If you're not a big person, you'll have just a little more than enough. But if you have long-ish legs, you will not fit. This airline has the least amount of leg room that I've ever seen. There's also nowhere to charge your devices, and the seats don't recline either. But for the price, I would fly again for a short connecting flight only next time we come back to Spain.
