They are not transparent ! They only record sales of $50 or more when most people don't spend $50 so you don't know what actually sold. This allows them the advantage of manipulating prices and then filling their store in Tinley with items they did not sell but feel are worth taking and selling at no profit for you. They charge for any clean out if you want it but do call another company that will do a buy out and clean out after the sale this way you make more money without being charged for the clean out. Otherwise they leave you with very little profit. There is no mention of their insurance when rummaging through your home and opening it up to the general public for which you are liable . Forgotten Treasure estate sale company is one of the worst I have found in my many years of buying across the USA. I am referring in terms of product knowledge by staff, history and estate sale etiquette, not to mention the frustration of trying to buy items at a fair price. They put up handwritten posters, or signs along side items stating "antiques", when indeed they are not even close to antiques. When asked about the "antique" items the younger female said "it is older than me"... FYI: antiques are any items that are 100 years, or older, not something from the 1980's, or even 1950's as they persisted on attempting to convince us. I understand that any estate sale company wants to make as much money for the owners, however, to foolishly try to mislead, or over-inflate buyers expectations by these misleading signs, or soak the buyers for prices that are at, or way above retail is ridiculous. I for one, along with others I know, will no longer shop at any sale this company is conducting, as it is not worth our time to go to an estate sale for them to insult our knowledge by trying to sell us newer items at crazy inflated prices. In turn we would never use them to do an estate sale, as buyers are the main source of revenue for the estate sale owners. It is not smart to hire a company that does not have a good handle on their business, i.e.: knowledge, history, basic elements in the realm of collecting. There is no way that this can be good for the Estate owners hiring them and could potentially miss opportunities to actually sell the items FOR SALE in their estate sale. Maybe this is a way for a post sale clean-out to get some great items on merchandise that did not sell. Also, while at the checkout area, the woman working the sale was very unprofessional, thus telling several of the customers, while in the midst of so many other customers, that they found $25,000.00 worth of gold. This type of information should never, ever be shared with strangers, as this should only be private information between the estate sale company and the estate sale home owner. Do NOT I repeat DO NOT hire these people unless you like getting ripped off. They insist you are not around for the preparation and sale because number one they trash your house, they throw away items without permission, i actually pulled a brand new digital camera out of the garbage that their careless employees threw away amongst other sellable items. The owner is rude and insults you so you feel your things aren't of any value. Then when the sale starts they sell all of your best items and don't keep an accounting of them, aren't transparent vocally about amounts, this is a setup because you are going to have a heart attack when you hear the lie they're going to tell you about how much was actually made. Big and multiple large expensive items were sold and after 2 days I was offered peanuts. When I asked for a detailed accounting I got a list that was generic like kitchen stuff $10 No detailed accounting. When they left my house was trashed, unsold items were left out in the snow, my blinds were broken off my windows, items that were attached to house was unscrewed and sold. It's been over a week since the sale and they still haven't returned my keys. Maybe they're hanging on to them so they can rob me a second time. In 2020, we were selling my mother's house. We hired Eric from A Forgotten Treasure, who was very enthusiastic about working with us. We signed a contract with him, specifying that he would do research, appraisal, and staging of the house contents before the sale. None of that happened. As a result, valuable possessions, including a $6000 fur coat and rare antiques were practically given away. When we complained to Eric, he blamed us for not reserving the most valuable items. But we didn't think it necessary, as he promised in our written contract to research and properly evaluate (and stage) the house contents. We trusted that he and his associates would do what they agreed to in our contract. But they did none of that and Eric became defensive when we asked him about it. Anyone that knew my Dad, knew he LOVED his "stuff." He cherished is "stuff." He worked hard for his "stuff." As the eldest, helping Mom get through this was imperative. It had to be handled gently.
