This is a 2 part review. The first time I was here, my wife and I went for lunch. It wasn't busy when we first got there, however it started picking up. The decor takes you right to island vibes. The music, the small trinkets that remind you of Puerto Rico are all here. The aromas in the air will have you drawn in. Our trip we had the roasted pork, and cube steak. My roasted pork was very flavorful. The rice reminded me of my grandmother's rice. The beans are amazing to say the least. I want the recipe! Tostones were fresh and hot! Made to order. I almost want to gatekeep this spot--it's so good--but the local lover and supporter in me won't let me! Don't drive too fast; you will pass it. The parking lot is small. The inside is a decent size with tables and chairs. It was clean, and it smelled so good. I loved the murals on the wall and the authentic feel. Our service was great. The food. The food. I ordered the empanadas, chicken and beef. They were perfectly fried and seasoned so well. The roasted chicken was deliciously flavorful, and that roasted crisp from the skin was on point. A hidden gem, literally you'd never know the flavors you'll get by just passing by but A Fuego 787 was phenomenal. Went during lunch with a previous coworker who recommended this place and let me tell you! Service was great, the food and drinks came out pretty fast and the flavor though I'm not super familiar with Puerto Rican food was out of this world. I got the skirt steak with shrimp and it came with 2 sides, I went with the half savory, half sweet mofongo and plantains because I always need plaintains. The shrimp were delectable, cooked to perfection and the steak was a perfect medium rare, the mofongo was amazing and the plaintains were perfections. The pina coloda too was so good! Literally finger licking good, I tried a few more Puerto staples which I don't know the name and those too were phenomenal. I can't wait to go back! Wonderful small restaurant with Puerto Rican soul and flavor. Popped in for a quick lunch while in the area. Cheese stuffed yuca balls were hot and delicious, served with a creamy tomato sauce. Came here with a group of friends during lunch break and even though it was busy, the staff was friendly and welcoming. The food tasted authentic and the portions were huge! Went to A Fuego, a Puerto Rican restaurant that serves criolle cooking (known as criolla), not creole (which is a French style Cajun cuisine). Very rare to see a Puerto Rican restaurant in South Carolina. Once you step into the restaurant, you are warmly greeted by the owner Jessica and various staff that bring your vibe up to feel like one of the family as you're being seated. The restaurant atmosphere is positive and down to earth. Another rarity to find in an eatery establishment. Started with sorullo, known on the menu as sorullitos which are Puerto Rican style corn fritters also known as corn stick. I requested it be done crispy, since I know some like the crust a bit on the soft side and some like myself, the crust on the crispy side. It tasted real good. Ordered land and sea dish, known as tierra y mar. It is Criolla style steak and shrimps, also tasted very authentic and delicious. The sweet plantains (platano maduro) were spot on delicious and perfectly cooked. Dish came with 2 sauces, chimichurri and mayo-ketchup. As a side, I ordered cheese balls. It's basically a yuca (mandioc) fritter with cheese filling. I never had it with cheese, always with a meat filling known as relleno de yuca. This tasted amazingly delicious and quickly noticed the hint of mojo that is a garlic-oil infused Puerto Rican condiment that made me fall in love with these yuca balls. Damn, that was good!!! For dessert, ordered a flan. It has a hint of finely grated coconut in it and with the caramel sauce tasted divinely. I drank fruit punch with my meal, but my guests ordered non-alcohol mango shake that is made with no milk, and other guest had a strawberry shake, also had no milk. Gave it a taste test to try it out. Both tasted delicious and tropical. Overall, I am impressed with this restaurant, it's awesome servers, cleaniless and the delicious fresh tasting food that was 100% authentic and true Puerto Rican cuisine. One important thing to add, this restaurant was spotless, well organize, had ample room and privacy for customers to eat. The music playing in the background can be heard through the restaurant, that was at a comfortable low level and audibly nice. If you ever near Columbia, South Carolina, take that trip few miles north to the town of Irmo and visit this restaurant and expect to be nicely greeted by the owner Jessica and her kind staff. Definitely, one of my highly recommended place that I will visit again. read more

Not impressed. The empanadas were good, but the meat in the A Fuego Dinner were dry and overcooked. Large parties will get charged a 20% tip. They don't let you review the charges before making you pay, unless you specifically ask to see the charges beforehand. Limited parking spaces. I've been seeing a lot of great things about this place so I decided to visit. The #16 was suggested, so I ordered one. The clerk was nice and the food came out quickly. I was greeted by every one of the employees as they saw me. The #16 has pastrami, pork, chicken, and cube steak on it. It is cut in half but will easily fill up 2 people. I've never had bread like this before and it was amazing. The cuts of meat were juicy and the entire sandwich was unlike anything I've ever tried. It was mouth watering and I wish I had ordered more to take home with me. If you are in the area, do yourself a favor and stop by. This is one of my new favorite restaurants. read more

I guess I had a mediocre day here as everything was below par, for me, except for the beans. We ordered the papas relleno which was good and the beans that were good also. The Cuban Sandwich was not as good as most Cuban Sandwiches and too salty. They even charged me 24¢ for mustard they left off the sandwich. They did take that off when I paid via cash to save the $3 credit card charge fee they imposed. Another person in my party had the A fuegon sandwich but it was too salty also. But, both sandwiches were loaded with meat and someone that likes a LOT of salt would enjoy it. Their prices have gone up since they first opened a few months ago and my total bill & tip for 2 sandwiches, 2 mashed potatoes balls and 2 small appetizers was well over $90 for 3 people. Rafael and Jessica (the owners) went out of their way to make sure I felt welcomed. This is my new go to place once a week. The restaurant was clean.
